  1. I wondered about adding a flywheel weight to the revvy little thing. I have asked a few people about this and no one had done it to theirs so I gave up. I would be very interested indeed in this and very grateful if you could sort out the piccies! Would this be something that Julian Wigg could sort out for me? If so, do you have contact details. Do you find that after a strong rev, it takes a long time to come back to low revs? I'm concerned that if there is an obstacle that needs a good handful of revs followed by a tight turn, that the thing might still be revving and striving forward. Hope that makes sense!!!? Thanks!
  2. This is great... I've got my own little thread here!!! I was just wandering why parents/minders are officially not allowed in the sections to walk the sections with their kids or to catch them if they come a cropper!? Seems strange to me, especially with the little uns.
  3. Hi Nigel... Can you give a bit more info on the mods you have made to the Gasgas 50 boy?
  4. You cant go wrong with a Yamaha TY80, but he may already be a bit big for one of those. A Beta medium wheel 50cc would be your best bet IMHO.
  5. Chatting to some of the mums & dads, apparently the sections were relatively easy as C&D rounds go. My lad (Danial) struggled quite a bit but knuckled under and completed the trial. Not bad considering he's only seven and riding his first british round. There were some awesome rides on the last lap for cleans. I ride expert at club level and I'm not sure even I could have ridden around clean!!! :-) Well done to all the riders and bad luck to Sam Minta who's chain came off (good first lap of 10 though).
  6. I asked the mrs to take a photo of the results board... (sorry only the D class results - cant get the staff!!!)
  7. Has anyone got any info on the new Michelin Trial X Lite Tyre? Price, availability etc?
  8. The tyres that came on my lads GasGas TXT50 Boy are pretty naff! Has anyone found any better replacements? They are 16" front and 14" rear.
  9. Vic Ashford' email address is actually: vic.ashford AT virgin.net
  10. Just thought I would start a thread for the 1st round of the 2009 Youth C&D championship round in Devon. Entry Fee
  11. Better retract that comment now :-(
  12. Do we have to register for the championship or just enter the event and you are automatically eligble for championship points?
  13. I'd have alca seltzer in my camelback if I had one!
  14. Hi DF dubia! Thanks for the heads up. Were you suggesting this for tendonitis or arm pump? Have you used it yourself... If so, please give us your thoughts. If you are selling the stuff.... I'M OUT!!!
  15. I've always suffered with arm pump in my left hand from using the clutch. I try and take the pressure off by using all of my fingers out of section and reverting to one and two fingers in section as gtgasgas suggests. I am experimenting with different levers and different positions at the moment. I've heared lots of opinions on how the levers should be positioned. Many say if they are pointing upwards too much, this causes arm pump. What I'm hoping is someone will come along and set them in the ideal position for me... but is there such a thing!? I also crush my middle finger a lot when using 1 finger on the clutch when brushing past trees etc. So I now have AJP shorty levers, but these probably wont help arm pump much!
  16. It's one of them awkward steps that wont let you ride it that way (I cant anyway). It really is bigger than it looks in the video. I remember feeling dissapointed when I saw the video as it made everything look smaller and flatter than it is. The bank at the start of the vid is much steeper than it looks too. I'm going to take a few stills to prove it! It's a great idea to upload vids as I'm sure the better riders on here would help with some pointers for us mere mortals!
  17. What technique!!? I just shut my eyes and let rip!! I've figured out that bit of wall now. The approach is horrible... there are rocks to wiggle between which is a bit of a distraction and then there's a hump to get over which forces you to takeoff much sooner than I would like, oh and it's slippy as hell... none of this really shows in the vid!!! ... ok ok... I'm just cr*p!!! I really do think that the changes to my rear shocker will help with splatting. Do you have any tips for me to work on though? (apart from going on a diet!!!)
  18. That's cool! I'm enjoying myself... so stearing head bearings here we come! The bike is an '07 250 and I havent used it that much, but I'm 13st and ride expert at club level so it does take a bit of abuse. Here's a little vid I posted on You Tube a while ago of me and my son going for a ride. There's a nasty little step I'm trying to ride up at the end (looks bigger in the flesh ;-)... look out for my sidestand doing its best to stop me getting up and also listen out for the words of encouragement from my wife right at the very end.... inspiring!!!
  19. I would consider going down to Devon, but Wales will be beating Ireland for the Grand Slam on the Saturday... spose I could get the mrs to pick me up from Cardiff on the way through. She'll be ok as long as she doesnt need to reverse the trailer! I will probably be a bit too poorly to travel though! I'm wandering if I could borrow (it's not stealing if you give it back - right?) the outlaws touring caravan for a few of these events. The little gasser 50 would go in ok for the trip and I have a Ford Kuga to pull it... hmmmm.... interesting!
  20. I'm really glad (& grateful) that you pointed this out Mike as I was getting a bit confused between the two. I must have been reading a bit about both events thinking it was the same event and getting it all muddled up! (what a kerfuffle!) I was really into the idea of a two day event (i.e. my lad riding D class over two days) then I read something about C&D being on saturday and A&B on Sunday and I thought and actually said to my wife "what a shame he cant ride both days". I'm waffling (as usual) now, but really look forward to this event especially with everyones positive comments about the social side of things too. Thanks for the link to your report and photos Andy. N1!!!
  21. Thanks again for the advice cop! Can you give me an example of mineral spirits? (sorry for being thick!) I took everything apart following Waynes maintenance and lubrication guide and cleaned and greased everything up with Putoline white action grease. When replacing the bolt which holds the bottom of the shocker, i torqued it up correctly and thought I would give it just one more little tweak and the bloomin allen socket slipped making a bit of a mess of the bolt. As I had already torqued it up... I just left it! I wasnt too happy with myself as everything else had gone really well. I screwed the spring down two turns and checked that the damping adjuster was in all the way and out 2 clicks (I went for 4 clicks). Wow what a transformation! The bike is much more lively and nimble making trick riding a breeze! I'm just wandering if anything will suffer as a result (e.g grip or stability in say a rocky stream or on a hillclimb!?). I've learned that almost always when you gain something you sacrifice somewhere else. So far so good anyway... I love it. I've fitted new grips, AJP shorty levers, changed the fork oil, new renthal chain and talon sprokets, bought a putoline air filter cleaner & oiler kit. I'm going to change the transmission oil next... then what!? Oh yeah... spose I could ride it a bit
  22. I've added a thicker clutch plate and dropped the gearing on my sons TXT 50 Boy, which have transformed the little bike but still isnt quite there! I've seen quite a few older TXT 50 Boy' in various trials and they seem to have much better low down power and seem to cope with the low rev tight stuff much better than my sons. I dont like the auto clutch to be honest! It seems like you have to pick the revs up quite high for the thing to bite and start moving at which point it shoots off at quite a rate! I may be exaggerating a bit here but this is to try and explain what is going on. It has improved with time as I think the clutch springs have weakened a bit and the bike starts moving at lower revs than when it was brand new. Hopefully it will keep improving as a TY80 is much easier to ride at low revs in the tight stuff. My question is... has anyone added any flywheel weights to the bike, is this possible, is it advisable!?
  23. Did you write that post in a cave?? There was an echo Sorry couldnt resist!
  24. Is there any chance you guys in the know can talk about the different types of trials cycles for us beginners? The Zoo! bike for example as you say is more of a street bike. I've been told that disk breaks are better for coping with natural terrain where you might encounter more water and mud etc.
