  1. I was just wandering if you (or anyone) can recommend a wheel truing stand or other method for sorting out the rim alignment. Also any resources or tips you know of in this mystical art! Many thanks!
  2. I couldnt find it either, but they do this NZI for
  3. Good point Jon. I was considering fitting mine in a more vertical position... up out of the way I thought. I'm going to leave it where it is now, just above horizontal.
  4. Is it possible to compare jets from the little gasser with say a 250? Or can you only compare with same make & cc etc? I did take out all the jets when I cleaned the carb and blasted the whole lot with PJ1 carb cleaner until my finger tips froze!!! But I forgot to take down what the jets were. I'm going to keep on top of the air box & carb from now on as it is so easy for sh 1 t to get in there, and I will make a note of the jet details then. It really annoys me that the bike manufacturers make little or no effort to keep water and crud out of the airbox area! Any other GasGas TXT50 Boy owners on here got into things like this and made a note of jets etc???
  5. It is what is known as a floating disk. That is how it is meant to be. Dont overtighten the bolts.
  6. I forgot to look what the jets were. Does it say on them what they are? They are whatever was in there new. Does the standard fit vary depending on country or something?
  7. Looks like moving the needle down to the final position was a bad move. The plug is showing that it's running way to lean. I have the air screw out 3.5 turns. I sent my lad for a ride around the field a few times and he was riding at nothing more than half throttle. After a few laps, I took the plug out and the ceramic is ice white (like when new)... I'm guessing that the air screw was just wound in too far before I started fiddling and that the needle position was ok. I think I'll try moving the needle back up one and just concentrate on the air screw.
  8. Fantastic read (not finished yet). It's telling me just how much I've taken for granted over the years when my dad used to look after my bikes!
  9. I'm about to fit some BOR sleeves to my sons little GasGas as he does tend to drop it quite a lot and the sleeves may save the forks from doom! I've never bothered with any of my own bikes, but I cant see any negatives.
  10. I really am grateful for all this help you are giving me laser1!!! You obviously know your onions! I'm sure many others will gain from your comments and tips for many moons! I checked the spark on the brand new plug before fitting and it was a bit stronger than the previous plug, but I noticed that the spark jumped about a bit. It didnt spark in the same place. Is this normal? So leaner means cooler running engine? What happens when you go too lean? Does it just drop performance because there isnt enough fuel going through the system or can something more serious happen?
  11. The whole thing is standard. I moved the clip to the top notch and put it all back together and wound out the air screw to 3.5 turns. It sounds much crisper and revs like a banshee with no stutter at all. Is there a chance that everything could be a bit to lean now and cause the engine to pop!?
  12. Hmmm! Just gone to clean the carb and move the needle down a notch and it's already on the 2nd notch down from the top. We've had the bike from new so that's how it came from the factory, unless it's been changed by the dealer. If I move the needle down another notch (there are 5 notches in total), it will be on the top notch (i.e. lowest needle position and leanest setting). Is this advisable???
  13. Thanks very much for the info laser1... I will give it a go and see how it goes. Like I say the bike pics up really sharply from low revs so I suppose the air screw isnt far off ideal. I will make it a bit leaner and drop the needle too and see how we go. I use 80:1 mix. Thanks again.
  14. That's flippin hilarious Martin!!! Cheers for that!
  15. Would a gunked up carb cause the plug to get black and sooty? My lads bike spits black oil out of the exhaust quite a lot and is covering everything. It picks up well from low revs but doesnt rev cleanly at mid to high revs it misses coughs and splutters. I'm in the process of cleaning out the carb and air filter and replacing the plug. Does anyone know the correct number of turns for the air screw? I was also thinking about dropping the needle (i.e. lifting the clip up) one notch so that it runs leaner at mid revs. There is quite a weak little spark, so I suppose the problem could be electrical? How about the float setting? Is this just a quirk of the little bike and all I need to do is keep cleaning the carb frequently? Cheers
  16. Have you checked the needle clip position? Is it in the middle? If so, you may want to try and lift the clip up one notch, thus dropping the needle down making the 1/4 to 1/2 throttle opening leaner.
  17. Anyone got a full copy of the results to post?
  18. Cheers jordi... would be good if the ACU website showed the past winners. All it would involve is to stop taking the previous results off and keep adding the most recent stuff on top.
  19. Does anyone know if there is anywhere online that you can look at past trials championship standings? From british youth & adult rounds to world level? The ACU has some of last years championship standings, but they are rapidly being ditched to make way for this years results.
  20. I think the C&D sections were split in the same way. I ran round the whole lot three times with steel toe cap boots!!! Lesson learnt there!! There seems to be some confusion here, and it is probably down to the observer to decide what is appropriate and to the parents to be reasonable and use common sense. I asked an observer in the C&D round (I wont say which section) if I was alowed to walk the section with my lad and he said "no"... so I asked is it ok if I stand by the tricky bit incase he falls? and he said "not in the section means not in the section". So I obviously respected his wishes. The C&D entry isnt really that big so I dont see too much of a problem, but I can see how parents in the sections at and A&B round with a bigger entry could be a right pain in the preverbial for everyone. Most of the observers on the day were letting parents both walk the sections and act as catcher. Not quite sure what you mean with the 'parents on bikes' comment YSB??? I dont think a parent who was not capable of riding or competent would consider taking a bike of their own even if they were allowed?!
  21. Many thanks for posting the photos dabster! This appears to be a GasGas 50 cadet or something as opposed to a GasGas TXT50 "Boy" as the photos show a gear shifter. The Boy is a small wheel automatic. I bet that the extra weight made a huge difference to the bike as you say, but I'm not sure how it would work with an automatic???
  22. It's a good question!!! I know that compiling results is quite time consuming and labourious, but I thought that the youth national results would be quite readily available online even if at an unofficial capacity. I've trawled the interweb but can find nothing???
  23. Do you have the details of the weight fitted? Was it possible to fit the weight with the standard cover or did you need some kind of spacer to accommodate the additional flywheel weight? When you say "without clutch" how do you mean? The clutch on a TXT50 Boy is surely just there to really pick up the revs for a big climb or step???
