Thanks for the replies.
I will set about ordering one tomorrow.
Hopefully I will have one before the frame comes back from the painters.

Can anyone help with a part number for my 87 honda rtl 250.
Its the spherical bearing in the linkage at the bottom of the rear shock.
I have tried the local bearing suppliers who couldnt help.
Cheers

Yes I know what you mean the 240 was the one I was thinking of.I knew were there was one in a barn a few years ago, might be worth a ride out to see what happened to it.
Managed to get the shaft off tonight so should be up and running tomorrow night with any luck that should be it sorted.

Thanks Woody
From your description I should be able to make something,I had wondered what the groove was for.
I think there was only 3 ossa`s at the trial mine,a gripper and a white mar so it was probably mine you saw.
Excellent day though.
I had intended selling the ossa when I came back and buying something lighter like a fantic but I enjoyed riding it so decided to keep it til next years trial at least.
Just out of interest can you recommend any shocks as i`ll be changing mine shortly.Mine are girlings and seem a bit soft.
Cheers Andy

Hello, once again I`m in need of some advice re the tr77.
I rode it recently in the nostalgia trial and it went well but was running really weak.I was advised to fit new crank seals and have done the flywheel side but cant shift the taper shaft on the cush drive. Does anyone have any advice.
The other thing was I have set the timing to open at 3 mil btdc,is this ok?
Anyway apart from the front wheel having a mind of its own everything else seems fine with the bike and hopefully next time I get it out it should be sorted.
Cheers

Hi, After years of putting it off i`ve finally gone and bought an rtl. Trouble is I know nothing about servicing it and wondered if anybody knows where I can get a manual or even a website with tech info.

I used to bolt the front up, then using longer bolts to get the back of the plate up. Once done replace the long bolts one at a time with the originals as soon as they would reach.
Good luck

Thanks woody for the information.
After finishing work early today I managed to have a proper look at the bike and it appears to be badly flooded.
Somehow dirt has got into the carb float bowl and I think its maybe kept the float needle from sealing anyway hopefully once the engine dries out it should be ok.
Just one more thing has anybody tried changing their bing carb with any success as I dont seem to be having much luck with mine.

Thanks,I forgot to mention this is a tr77 with points and stator.

I had a problem getting my ossa to start a while ago then someone on here gave me the right plug type for the bike.I fitted a new plug and it started first kick.
However I dragged it out to try and free the clutch for the nostalgia trial, rode it for a little and now I cant get the bloody thing started again.
I have a feeling its the plug again as the spark is now white instead of blue.
Any body know what could be causing this.
Cheers

Thanks you are a life saver.
I managed to get a b5es plug today and the bike started more or less straight away.
Its running a little rich but at least I can fiddle with it now.
The bike was found in a cellar and has been there for about 25 years with a collapsed rear wheel.
Its now ready to trial.
Thanks again

I would go for NJB shocks.
I have used them in the past and they work perfectly well.
I used the middle model with thicker rods.
Also I`m led to believe if you bust one norman will sell a single which works out cheaper but dont quote me on this.
-
Thanks very much for the plug info.
The banging your head on the wall is perfect thats exactly how I feel.
I`m still convinced its the carb.
My legs had it all the kicking it can stand.
The bikes going back against the back wall for a while.
Thanks everybody for trying to help and taking the time to read this.

Thanks for the info on the stator,I couldn`t find any details whether these were fitted as standard,I guessed it was montesa due to the colour of the wires but as the bike hasnt been messed about with much you are probably right about it being the original.
I suspect its flooding as once the plug is dried it will start again and it only starts with the choke off.
Im using the vintage dirt bike book for references but it doesnt give a measurement for float height just a vague guide with the floats level with the base of the carb.
Thanks for sharing my problem with me your help is once again appreciated

Im going off whats in the book and its ngk b9 or 10 im using a b9 but I think woodys right by saying its flooding I`ll try again tonight.
Cheers for your interest

Thanks
I guessed its down to the carb as I`ve checked and double checked the timing. It is fitted with a montesa points stator and flywheel, gap is 0.38 and it opens exactly 3mil btdc. When its running the bike sounds as if its responding perfectly until it cuts out. Then when the plug is checked it is always wet and wont fire up again until it is heated with a gas lamp.I have tried a number of plugs and its always the same result.

Thanks for the suggestion.
I managed to get the bike running by heating the plug and it runs for a short while until the plug is fouled.
I suspect the carb is set up wrong but cant find any info on it.
Its a bing 84 carb,I guess its the original but it may not be.
Does anybody have a list of jets and needle settings?
Thanks

Hello all
Wonder if anyone can help.
Having a nightmare trying to start my tr77 mar.The plug is sparking and getting wet but it wont fire at all.
The carb is clean and all blown through with compressed air.
I took the flywheel cover off to check the timing and found its been fitted with motoplat points ignition. The wires that come off all seem to be original and mate up with the connectors so I wondered if these were fitted as standard.
The wires that come from the mag are black, white, green and yellow.I think the black is live as it is the only one that makes a spark but perhaps someone knows better.
Cheers

Cheers for the reply.
Never realised i`d left myself wide open.
Any way just got a quote for a new rim, seems like I might have to sell the pics of my crack to pay for it.
-
Hello
Just wondered if this is a record.
I went to change the front tyre this morning and found 12 cracks in the edge of the rim.
Granted its an 02 sherco and the tyre looks like the original but ive never seen anything as bad before,I only hope the rest of the bike is made of better stuff.
Anybody know a good welder with a lot of time on his hands?
Cheers

Why not fit an electronic ignition from bultacouk
-
Thanks for the reply,it is the black framed model and the tank has an orange stripe down the centre as well as the orange ossa stickers.
-
I wonder if anyone can help I have recently stumbled across a green 350 ossa in very good original cond.
I would like to know if anyone could put a date on it and also if anyone knows who is best to buy spare parts from as the rear brake plate needs replacing.
-
Had a similar problem with mine and it turned out to be the stator coils breaking down.It would run fine then stall with no spark then approx 2-3 hrs later the spark would reappear for a short while.
