Cotacrazy
Thanks for the advice,I would like to get the 242 up and running but I`m in the middle of restoring my 300 fantic so will put it on hold for a while. I`ve had the frame powder coated so will build the chassis up but the engine will have to wait.
I`ve always wanted a 247, when I was a kid my dad used to own an ex works rob edwards montesa 247 circa 73`ish. I wish I could find it now.

Hi all, I`ve another question I wonder if you guys can help with.
I`ve bought a fantic pro non runner for spare parts for my 240 and 300, but when I picked it up today it turned out to only be a 125cc.
Its a forward kicking pro fm250 and I wondered if anyone knows how many of the chassis parts are interchangeable.
It needs a new kickstart shaft and a good going over but looks like it could easily be sorted with a little tlc.
It was mainly the wheels and forks I was after for my 240 as well as the silencer.
Cheers

Thanks Sooty
I have a contact for the mains but will be looking at the crank.

Thanks to everyone who has replied.
I think the mont is going to be too expensive to put right. I`ve looked into it further this morning and the big end is goosed as well as the mains.
The list of jobs to do is growing daily and I think it best just to leave it. For now at least.
Am I right in thinking this is one of the first monts built by honda, perhaps a big end from another honda motor will go straight in.
Anyone know??

Cheers Woody
I`ve had a bit of a tinker with it this morning and I dont think its all that bad.
The engine looks as though its just the mains that have collapsed on the flywheel side, i`ve got the barrel off and all looks well inside.
Looks like I might get away with just changing the mains and giving the frame a blast and paint for now ,who knows the way things are going it might be worth something one day.
Shame about the forks though they look worse than I first thought.

Hi all, I`ve kind of inherited a 242 montesa, trouble is its in a terrible state as its been left outside for years on the farm my dad shoots on.
My question is were these mont`s any good and is it worth restoring? The one saving grace is its all original and all there and the forks look to be in reasonable condition some pitting but above the seal area, the engine has however seized up through being stood.
Or should I save my money and sell it on or break it for spares.
Any advice welcome.

Suggest you try and find a good Fantic 200,at 10 stone it would be pefect for you. Plenty of spares around and not as expensive as a 240.
-
Definately 97, but I think it was only the 270`s that came with the gold fork stantions.

I had a rack fitted to my golf and to be honest would look at another way of transporting the bike.
Because the rear bumper is so high I had problems with the gear lever and footrests rubbing against the paintwork, I even had spacers fitted to gain more room but still ended up with big holes in the bumper.
The racks sat in the shed if you want to try one PM me.

I`ve just bought a near complete 300 twinshock with the engine apart and missing its seat and sump plate.
There was a problem with the clutch which has now been sorted,(cheers bob wright).
The bike has been used but my guess is only for a short while before being parked up, as its still in original condition with all the lever covers and bar pad still in tact. The tank covers are in perfect condition so I think its worth saving.
I might have found a sump plate but if anyone can help with a good seat please get in touch.
Cheers

Thanks fantic 200 for the sound advice, your not by anychance the nutter round the corner with the little red hair dryer??

Thanks everyone who replied to my call for help.
I`ve just checked the timing and found it to be slightly out. When lining up point A with the crankcase boss the timing line was slightly outside the two marks on the pick up. Its now dead centre and the bike ticks over perfectly and picks up on the revs much cleaner. Looking forward to the weekend to give it a try.

Thanks Glen
Will check the timing tonight, just a thought tho if the exhaust is so sensitive could an aftermarket silencer be the problem. The silencer fitted is an alloy one which is a lot larger than original and has an open area underneath the packed out part, apparently to give the pipe more back pressure and I was told this is quite a useful and sought after silencer. Probably B*****ks and the cause of my problems.
-
Thanks for the help on this, the timing was marked and rebuilt in the same position so that can be checked, I cant say how the bike ran before I rebuilt it as it was leant against a shed wall for years as the big end bearings had failed. All i`m doing is comparing it to one I used to have years ago which ran perfectly.
Could anyone let me know the correct timing setting.
Thanks

No, I`ve never needed to this with bikes before so never gave it a thought, how is it done and whats in the expansion chamber.

Help, i`ve totally rebuilt a fantic 240. Engine work done includes new mains, seals and bigend. Whilst the barrel was off I checked the barrel and piston which still had its machining all the way down. The ring gap appeared fine. I`m running 11/39 sprockets and the carb is in excellent condition with as new slide and needle as is the silencer
Yet the problem is the bike struggles to pull 2nd gear through the sections and if I try to use 1st all the time it struggles to find grip. Can anyone offer any suggestions. I think the carb is set up right, I checked the jets and changed the main after reading a Lee Harris thread but it hasn`t made much difference.
Also can anyone recommend a better chain tensioner as the standard one doesn`t seem to be much use.
Cheers

Hi, i`ve just bought my son a gasser which I thought was a 125 but I think may be bigger, It wasn`t running when we got it as it had no compression and upon inspection it needs new piston rings. However the piston measures 60mm diam. Can anyone let me know what size this would make it and if anyone has any spares kindly let me know by PM.
Cheers

Very nice but if you arent using the fox shocks I would, perhaps you might PM me about them.

Ive got a copy of this video, its really boring.
I threaten the kids that i`ll put it on if they are mucking about.

Buy the biggest lock and chain and keep your bike hidden as much as possible.
Dont worry about riding it properly just have fun with it until your confidence grows.
Worst thing is trying to copy a good rider when learning.

Hello all
I`m looking to buy a used 4RT and wondered if theres anything I need to know or look out for before I part with my hard earned.
Can anyone help?
Andy

Thanks but I know its a 93 model with the black and white stripe down the tank.
I would just like to know if anyone else has had an aprilia with this type of numbers.

Hi all,
I`ve got the chance of a purple climber quite cheap,as its in a bit of a state but when I checked the frame numbers part of them seem to have been altered, the guy gave me the explanation that the local importer changed the numbers when new and as the number reads 93*** it would seem to tie in with the year. The bike is complete and original and with a bit of tlc and a front tyre could be made good just wanted any advice on numbers.

Thanks for the help but the original bearings are no longer available.
But in case anyone else has the same problem the bearings are the same as the ones in a montesa 315.
I know this as I fitted some this afternoon.
