  1. I`ve had a pinky for a while and when I bought it had a number plate with a reg but no V5. The seller said it came with a spare mudgaurd on but couldnt remember for sure. As I`ve just sold my roadbike and could do with switching my insurance policy to keep my no claims ticking over I would like to apply for the V5 but is this likely to cause problems. Anyone know of a way of checking the reg with the frame numbers to see if they match. I`ve ran a vehicle check with dvla and it comes back as a 91 yam but thats all.
  2. I had the repsol model, sometimes it needed to be reset by opening the throttle fully once then it would fire up. Good luck
  3. Thanks for the reply. I seem to have it a little better now than it was, not sure if its anything to do with the power valve. It pops 2 or 3 times then wants to rev a bit before settling down and so on. I may try a different carb when I get the chance and see if there is any difference. Still not sure of the cc and I dont fancy taking the head off to find out. Any help with the model number fm 364 would be good. Andy
  4. Could someone let me know which carb a 95 FM 364 fantic section should have and if possible the standard settings. I need a little help to get the carburation set up on mine. The carb fitted looks to have a smaller mouth than others I have and doesnt fit well in its rubber mount. Also the bike seems to want to surge on tickover. Finally what size is the section FM364 as It doesnt have it stamped in the case as normal? I guessed it was a 250cc as I have a 303 and that is also a FM364 but now its running i`m not so sure. Andy

    spark loss

I had a similar problem a while back with a montesa 315, the bike would run fine for about 20 mins then the spark would vanish. After about half an hour the spark would return and so on. It turned out to be the stator and once it had been replaced the bike ran perfectly.
  6. Not sure, cant say i`ve noticed any, what exactly have I to look for?
  7. Hi all, I`ve just finished rebuilding my early fantic 125, its a W reg, has a silver frame and has a large bulb shaped tank. Whilst I had the engine apart I found it had been converted into a 175 using a suzuki piston. I also found it had holes drilled in the barrel and head, as its road reg I guess this means its done scotland. I`m interested in finding out who rode it and wondered if there is anybody who would know who rode one of these if I gave the reg number. Hopefully someone might be able to help.
  8. Hello Russ There`s a guy near us in stockton who rebuilds shocks and does a very good job of it. He has done some for me in the past and made new shafts, seals etc. His name is Joe Pitt and if you would like his contact number PM me. Andy
  9. Heres a long shot but does any one know the reg of the fantic tx125 the late great Don Smith rode in the Isdt. I`ve just picked one up and the owner claims it did such an event in its early days and its previous owner was a london lad.
  10. Simple, short out the kill button then on sat morn when it wont start head for the pub pride in tact. If not will see you through our section mid morn.
  11. Not sure how you would repair yours but if new stock is available Bob Wright in weston super mare or Bill Pye in great ayton are the people who will know. Just google them.
  12. I`ve just been told that my 07 repsol still has its exhaust restrictors fitted. Just wondered if its worth my while taking them out and what the benefits will be. The bike seems to go well enough as it is so I`m thinking if its not broke dont try and fix it. Also how many restrictors are there and where, the obvious one is bolted into the back of the silencer and there seems to be a loose pipe behind the exhaust seal at the front of the silencer. Cheers Andy
  13. Sorry to be the bearer of bad news but the clutch drive has been welded to the shaft because the shaft has snapped. This is a common fault because there is a large weight on the end and it works loose and snaps the shaft at the woodruff key. My guess is it will be cheaper to buy a complete engine than try and source spares. Good luck
  14. Its normal right hand thread, there is also an allen pinch bolt on the chain side of the frame and you have to loosen the engine clamps which are on the spindle itself. Once youve loosened everything the spindle has to be unscrewed from the frame. Good luck.
  15. Happy days, the timing is now set and the bike runs near perfect. Thanks for the help.
  16. Thanks for that, its exactly the same tool I use to check the timing. Normally works well enough when the plug hole is on top of the head but seems to be a bit useless on the 242. Will keep trying.
  17. Hello again, if anyone can remember I have a 242 mont that was in need of an engine rebuild. That has been done and the engine is back in the bike. I`m having real problems setting the timing tho, its got a nice fat spark and sucks petrol through spot on but ive only managed to have it running once and it backfired and snapped the woodruff key. I`m finding it really hard to measure the timing through the plug hole as its on the side of the squish band and seems to be at TDC for longer than it should. Anybody know an easy way of setting the timing on these bikes or is it just a case of trial and error. I`m aiming for a 0.38 inch contact gap and the points to open 2.5mm BTDC. Is this right or am I miles off. Cheers Andy
  18. Hi, has anyone else suffered from their KT tank leaking. It looks as though mine has a slight crack where the rubber strap pulls over. As its going to need welding can anyone help with the original colour codes or where I would be able to buy the tank decals. Thanks Andy
  19. I had one recovered by D.L.C. of bradford. They did an excellent job and it never broke the bank although it was a long time ago. I think he used mine to make a pattern.
  20. Cotacrazy, thanks for the tip on kev breedon, should have one shortly.
  21. I`m having problems finding a con rod kit or bid end for my 242 montesa. Does anyone know where I shoul try or if something from another bike will fit?
  22. Yes thats what I would try first, its a possibility that some water has earthed the kill switch. I had a 99 mont with a similar problem that would run for 10 mins then no spark, half an hour later the spark would reappear for another 10 mins, that turned out to be the stator coils breaking down. New coils fixed that but cost a fortune. Good luck
  23. You`ve already tried disconnecting the kill button and still no spark???? thats the first place I would look.
  24. Have you given the carb a good clean out. With it being stood a while the chances are the pilot jet has been blocked up by the fuel going off. This a common problem and once cleaned out the bike should run somewhere near. Screw should be around 2 turns out. Good luck.
