Had the same problem this summer. As it turned out my base gasket was shot. Look around the bottom of cylinder for any oil or combustion residue. It progressively got worse as the gasket was dieing.

Exactly what was wrong with my 2009 300, Mine used to pink/knock like mad, Changed jetting, Nothing seemed to cure it, Until one day I noticed the base gasket was leaking & got worse everytime I rode it, Which was the cause of it pinking. It Didn't help with the fact that it was an ex GG Team bike & who had it before me had put the wrong gasket on (to thin) Probably to make it higer compression which would have caused it to pink even worse.
Wayne: Hope your bike stays running good, I know it's an annoying problem, I hated it!
Nope it isn't stolen, A mate of mine has just bought it off his mate, Which he bought it off another lad who had owned it from new. Think it is 2006 model & is also a genuine repsol. It is really cheap though, Must be worth over £2000
I have found the 2011 fenders are terrible, The quality of the plastic is rubbish. I snapped mine in half completly. The Black TTT fenders are a lot better or the 2010 standard fenders are pretty good as well.
Might be an idea to check the CDI Unit for any water that may have got into the terminals, if your plug is a light Brown/Tan colour it is running correctly, So the mixture can't be the problem. Is the bike backfiring at all?
A few people have had this issue which has been caused by water getting into the CDI.
Lampkins sure are spot on to deal with, Best service that I know of by a long way, John, Gary & Chris are all excellent people to deal with, Couldn't ask for any better service what so ever. Best bike & best service, What more can you ask for.
I have to disagree,I couldn't let this pass...but I think an old Rev3 is a poor buy: woeful electrics,self-dissolving crank-cases,suspect rear suspension.
A Montesa 315 would be my choice(yr 2000 ish?).
I know some of the old rev 3's wern't very good, But I knew someone who had an 01 rev3 for a while & it was one of the best old running 2 strokes I had rode, Apart from the faults with the stators that they had, I think there a decent bike. Or as you say A 315 Montesa would be a good option as well.
so then iff i want a good cheap one it will have to be 2t then?
Pretty much, if you want a good bike, you will have to pay for one, Have a look on ebay though, there might be something half decent for a good price. The old Rev3's are pretty good.
Beta Rev4/250/300 (avoid 2007 as they suffered from bad oil leaks) the 2008's are very nice to ride, Lovely power delivery. the 300 Rev4 in my opinion has a bit to much power.
Beta Evo 4t/250/300 (2009-2011), Very reliable, The 300 is My favourite personally, Spot on to ride.
Montesa 4rt, A very reliable Bike as it uses a Honda 250 4t motor, A bit to much on the heavy side though.
Scorpa 250f. Don't know much about them as I've never ridden one, Yamaha motor though
Sherco 320 4T, In my opinion a horrible bike to ride, Feels like your holding onto a jackhammer when riding it. It has to much unusable power.
I think that's about it.
Have a look around some trials, See if you can catch a go on some, I personally would reccomend a 2008 Beta Rev4 250, Or a Beta evo 4t 300, Both are excellent bikes.
Depends on how you like the bike to ride really, If you're looking for something mega smooth & a bit calmer the 250 is the one to go for But if you want something with a bit more poke & to be a bit more responsive, the 290 is the one for you, I personally prefer the 290 myself, But at the end of the day, Everyone's different!
Heat up with Hair dryer or heat gun, And get off what you can.
Then I've used some Glue and Tar remover that my Brother in Law uses for Car valeting.
Absolutley superb stuff, just melts the glue and can be wiped off, without damage to anything underneath.
Google search Tar and Glue remover.
That is definitely the best way to do it, Just warm the stickers up with a heat gun & they peel off much easier & to get rid of the glue underneath, Tar remover works a treat!
It does seem a bit noiser than they usually are, The clutch on my old GG was as noisy as that, It is pretty normal for them to be like that, I shouldn't worry about it to be honest.

Seems strange why Dabill & Challoner aren't included in that list
