See here. Download and complete an application form and take it along to the next committee meeting which are held on the first Wednesday on each month at the Northway pub, Scarborough (directions can be found on the page that I linked). If you can't make it to the next meeting (which I believe is tomorrow night), contact Eileen Race (contact details here) and she'll be able to advise you. If you have any other questions, please use the feedback form on the site or PM/email me through these forums and I'll try to help (or forward your question on to someone who can). More details about Low North Camp including rules for practising can be found here.

Yeah, what's up with that and have Beta finally sorted it on the 07 models? My last bike leaked fuel and pinked like crazy until I did the mod and installed a larger pilot jet but my 06 has performed flawlessly from day 1 with no mods whatsoever (apart from adjusting the air screw which was wound right in ) If there's a quality control problem with the units coming from Mukini, surely Beta would either demand that they sort it or put procedures in place to check each carb before they get put on bikes. It wouldn't take much effort to build a test rig and employ some PFY to spend all day QC-ing carbs? I know that some people say that it's not the carbs themselves that are the problem, it's the extreme angle that they're mounted in the bikes but that doesn't explain why some leak and others don't.
We spend a lot of time on here discussing the best way to resolve the problem but no-one seems to know precisely what the fundamental cause is and why it's apparently so random.

So the 07 Repsol is basically a "standard" 06 bike with different clothes? And the same was true for 05/06? OK, so I guess the real question is are there any mods for 07 apart from the usual BNG (Bold New Graphics)?
-
No I think it reads 'OLDFART' , never knew Beta had done you a personalised bike neon
Ooooo Rob dont you think you get enough unwanted points on trials than saying stuff like that lol
Now you're in trouble! "Nazi observer from hell" will be keeping a close eye on you both at the next club champ trial...
RESPECT MY AUTHORITAH!

And what's the text on the rear mudguard? Looks like "THUNDERFART"....

Here.
I think it's horrid. I'm sure it's a dream to ride but that colour scheme just makes it look cheap. Too plastic-y. 2001 and 2006 were/are the nicest-looking Betas IMHO.
Still, could be worse.... look at Scorpa... or the many tastelessly blinged 4RTs polluting paddocks these days (paging lastplacebrad...)
Mind you, they all look pretty much the same towards the end of a trial in February don't they?

I was sent on an HP Secure OS training course a while ago. It's a totally mindbending Linux implementation where the OS is logically divided into multiple secure "compartments" and the only communication between compartments is via encrypted gateways. Oh and there's no "root" account as such - specific accounts are created to perform limited sets of specific tasks and are deleted once the system goes live. Apparently, Secure OS has never been successfully penetrated "all the way through" (from the "system outside" compartment to the "system inside" compartment). It was the kind of course where you can't remember a single thing you've learned just half an hour after walking out of the classroom

I was talking to a couple of US-based acquaintances on IRC a while ago (read: "internet saddo talking to other saddos") and they'd never heard of trials. Since we're all members of a site called MetaFilter (a kind of community blog thing), I said I'd gather together a few interesting links and post a message on there as kind of an "intro to trials". I did this and got a few replies the best of which was: "I call Trials physics porn - I love to watch the crazy rockhoppers."
I liked the description "physics porn" - kinda like the Sherco "play with gravity" (only better!) Any other good summary descriptions of trials you've heard?
For anyone interested, the original MetaFilter discussion is here. I know there are better vids etc. out there, but this was supposed to be a quick intro. TC links by kind permission of Andy!

That might be because it is (flooded). I had exactly the same problem on my old bike and tried everything to cure it (carb, electrics etc. etc.) to no avail. Then, when I took the engine out to be rebuilt I noticed fuel dripping constantly dripping from the hose, even with the fuel tap off. A seal inside the tap was buggered... you can see where this is going. One quick call to Lampkins to order a new tap and the problem was sorted!

100cl to 5L is 50:1 which is very rich. Try and 80:1 mix and see how it goes (I've heard of people running up to 100:1 with fully synthetic oil but I don't think I'd try it!)

Maybe ATK have adapted their 700cc 2-stroke motor for trials! And Lane's talked Arnie into being the development rider! And............... I'll get me coat.

Not sure why you're so obsessed with BHP, dude. It's really pretty irrelevant as far as trials bikes go (and pretty meaningless generally since there are so many variables and "IF"s and "BUT"s to consider). What's important in trials is torque and I guarantee you that a 250cc trials bike will out-torque a 250cc 'crosser any day of the week.
Put it this way: I'm heavy (17st) and my 250cc Beta scares me all the time. I used to own a 270 and in the wrong hands (ie, mine) that thing was potentially bloody lethal. A Sherco 290 has far, far more power and TORQUE than you'll be able to use effectively unless you're Albert Cabestany, I guarantee it.
Forget all these silly BHP comparisons and go ride a 270 Beta, 280 Gasser or 290 Sherco. THEN come back and say they're not powerful enough! Unless what you're really looking for is a field/play bike in which case you're probably better off with a 'crosser anyway.
"The Fast and the Furious" has a lot to answer for.....

Fork seals really aren't that difficult as long as you take it slow if it's the first time you've done it (yes, this advice is coming from someone who couldn't work out how to fit a bar pad in another thread - laugh it up boys!)
There's a really good step-by-step guide on Ryan Young's site that I used the first time I replaced the seals on a Beta (Shercos use Paioli forks too but be aware that the Beta ones are slightly different - more adjustment I think). The general process is the same though. It can be a messy job (or maybe that's just me again )

OK I lied about not commenting again but this isn't a rant and I want to put my previous comments in this thread (and elsewhere) into context:
Nigel, your sources may be more reliable than mine. Seriously, without naming names (which would obviously be wholly inappropriate), it's impossible to know for sure whether TW's potential future was based on subscription take-up or something else. That aside, does anyone else find it odd that no-one from TMX has posted on here with an official statement on why the magazine was wound up? I'm emphatically NOT suggesting that there was some ulterior motive behind it, just that I know some of the TMX people read these forums and for such a long-waited-for publication to suddenly cease without explaination being posted on one of the UK's primary sources for trials news and information seems strange. I wasn't a subscriber so I don't know if any explaination or refund was offered by other means... set me straight anyone?
I know it seems that I'm constantly having a go at TW whenever the subject comes up and I realise that the people who actually produced the magazine probably had little, if any, influence over the commercial decisions that were made but having been a long-term TBM subscriber and always admired their "tell it like it is" attitude and the depth of their product reviews and other features, I was really looking forward to seeing what YOU HAVE USED WORDS OR A PHRASE WHICH ARE NOT PERMITTED ON THIS WEBSITE. PLEASE DELETE YOUR POST/TOPIC. DO NOT TRY TO CIRCUMVENT THE FILTERS IN PLACE ON THIS WEBSITE would turn out like. Their 5-bike trials shootout (which appeared in TBM) was brilliant and suggested that the UK trials community would finally have a high-quality publication to be proud of. When (for whatever reason), TM was abandoned as an independent publication (although it still exists as a supplement at the back of TBM) and TW appeared it was a disappointment when compared to the promise shown by TM. Same old style of reviews and a distinct lack of depth to the articles. I can see how if you'd never read TBM you'd not appreciate the difference in style and editorial approach and I'd agree that "something's better than nothing" but I still believe that the sport of trials was denied an independent viewpoint with few vested interests and a track record of not watering down opinions to avoid offending advertisers.
The actual quality of TW is obviously still a matter of personal opinion of course but I recommend picking up a few back issues of TBM to see what could have been. In an ideal world, BOTH mags would be on the market and the public would be able to make their own choice. Unfortunately, business concerns wouldn't allow that.
P.S. Where did the symbol next to the words "YOU HAVE USED WORDS OR A PHRASE WHICH ARE NOT PERMITTED ON THIS WEBSITE. PLEASE DELETE YOUR POST/TOPIC. DO NOT TRY TO CIRCUMVENT THE FILTERS IN PLACE ON THIS WEBSITE" come from? I didn't type it! Is there a TC ghost editor?

Y'know I really wish I hadn't mentioned the bar pad thing! My main reason for wanting to do this is the unreliability of the standard switch unit, honest!
Ain't that the sad truth
-
You forget that TrialsWorld was (allegedly) never intended to exist longer than a few issues and was (allegedly) wound up as soon as it became clear that the opposition were crushed. It wasn't even very good in my opinion and leaving all other issues aside, it deserved to die.
I'm less than convinced of the economic practicalities of producing a high-quality, low-circulation monthly publication although it seems to work for some mags - VMX springs to mind. I still think that the TBM boys would've (and still could) do a much better job.
I shan't rant on this subject again. Promise. Maybe.

OK, OK I believe y'all. Just me being an eejit as usual.
Anyway: about this kill switch wiring...

Here's another one: "cost
-
Well I'd sure like to know how you managed to get the bar pad on 'cos I can't bloody do it! Maybe thinner foam is required...
-
I'm about to replace the standard kill/lights switch block on my bike with a Yamaha-type 2-wire kill switch, but can't for the life of me remember how to wire it up (apart from the earth connection!). I'm a bit of an electrical disaster area so the last time I did this I wrote everything down and drew diagrams etc.... predicatably, I've lost that piece of paper now. I'd like to remove all of the superfluous lighting gubbins while I'm at it so if anyone can remind me what needs to be disconnected where and what needs to be wired to what, I'd appreciate it.
BTW, I eventually managed to get that nasty standard switch unit working semi-reliably by disassembling it, enlarging the holes that the buttons go through slightly with a needle file (to eliminate the sticking problem), and sealing all of the contents in place with silicon. Thing is, I want (need!) a bar pad so the standard unit's got to go.

I know how he feels. I just sold my '03 250 for

Can you explain what this is supposed to mean please?
If you are suggesting the observing was not done
in a proper manner I propose you get off yer backside and
do some next year.
That's how it read to me at first but I think Nigel's not actually having a go at the Bradford people. Quite the opposite, in fact!
