  1. Hi Guys, yet another question, sorry> Coming back to trials from the 70's, I am still trying to decide which bike. Set on a 250, could be Beta rev 3, could be Mont 315r or could be Gas Gas, I'm just getting a bit confused over TXT and Pro, what are the differences do they change fom one to the other at specific years, or are there some clear differences, sorry for being thick cheers
  2. Many thanks Mick, that looks interesting I think I was a member of Normandy many years ago and also Tongham. I think Tongham was in the Star group. I'll investigate Normandy once I get the bike. Thanks again
  3. Hi everyone Does anyone know of any practice areas in the Hampshire, Wiltshire, Berkshire area of the UK. I live near Andover on the Hampshire Wiltshire border but also close to the Berkshire border many thanks
  4. Hi everyone, thanks for the advice. I'll try to get a go on a few bikes. I still like the idea of the mont, although given that the betas have calmed down a bit and if I were to fit the slow throttle and drop the gearing down , then I guess any of the bikes mentioned would do the trick. I only want to have a bit of fun, start off on the wobblers route and try to progress. This is a great move forward , when I first stated in trials we only had one route and it was sometimes a bit soul destroying that the sections were a bit tricky . With the introduction of the "easier" routes at least it builds confidence. Anyone know of a practice area in Hampshire? Wiltshire area? Thanks
  5. Hi Everyone. I had convinced myself that I wanted a Montesa 2001+. There seem to be fewer of these about though. Everything on E bay seems to be in the North. Which 250 would be good for me, coming back to trials after a very long (30 years) lay off. A guy from the forum gave me some good advice about the Montesa, and he had one for sale which I have to say tempts me.. I need to free my garage up by selling a car which currently lives in there. I was told that the Beats could be a handful, have they calmed them down in the 21st Century, could I calm it down with lower gearing and a slow throttle? I heard that second hand Gas gas can be trouble, from a build quality point, how about Sherco, they don't seem to be so popular but I saw a dealer had a 20005 250 which they said was an ideal starter bike. I'm not looking to be super competitive age or ability won't allow I just want to have a nice day out tackling a trial with a minimum of fuss, Should I stay with my first thought and stay with the 315R, by the time I make up my mind at thios rate the 4rt's will be affordable Any recommendations gratefully received cheers Dave
  6. Hi anyone else here from Hampshire, Surrey, Berkshire Wilshire., I live near Andover clsoe to the Hampshire Wiltshire Border . Berkshire and Surrey are also not so far awy. Any clubs recommended good for beginners?,
  7. Hi Mike I'm in the same boat although it is a bit longer for me. the last time I rode a trials bike was around 1976. It has all changed. I had a go on a Montesa 315 with the slowed down throttle and a 9 tooth front sprocket and it was very nice indeed , a bit heavier than some of the others but it felt well planted. Good luck and let's keep in touch and see how we are getting on. I haven't bought a bike yet as I need to sell a car to free up my garage. Once I have somewhere to keep and maintain the bike I'll be up for one. Good luck and keep in touch cheers Dave
  8. ordered and paid , done looking forward to getting that!
  9. Thanks for the replies and tips. I had a very quick look at it on Thursday. It does look in great condition> it is with a dealer and I guess I would pay a higher price but I guess that buying from a well known dealer would give me a bit of peace of mind. I think I'll take a better look at it and ask some more questions Thanks again Dave
  10. Hi Guys I think I have set my heart on the Montesa 315. I am only coming back to Trials after a 30 year lay off. The bikes have changed so much. I had a go on a mates 315 and loved it, he has lowered the gearing which he suggested that I should do if I got one and also added the slow throttle.. I think his gearing is 10 -42. What should I look out for when looking at second hand used 315R, I'm thinking about one from say 2001 - 2003. I have seen a 2001 on the net , nice looking condition from a dealer at
  11. Thanks again excellent advice, It'll be a while before I choose as I'm still in the thought process.I saw an evening trial at Crondall woods , that looks just the thing, they don't mind if you just plod through a section and practice , so that would suit me down to the ground to get back into the swing of things. I have a Car to sell to clear the Garage first and then decide on some form of bikle transport, probably the rack system would work best for me. Once I've sold the Car in my Garage , The Garage will be empty and I can make a start on really finding a bike, joining a club and getting satrted in the meantime I'll try to get to a few Trials. Many thanks again for your help it is much appreciated
  12. Many thanks for that. I was a litle unsure about the multi routes but that certainly is good for someone getting back into it. I'll try to find something to watch this wekend, Thanks again, I Think I could work to a
  13. Hi everyone, I know this may be a stupid question but please what is the difference between a 315 and a 315R many thanks
  14. Hi Everyone. I am seriously thinking about getting back into Trials Riding. It has been more than 30 years since I rode a Bike at all. In the mid 70's I had a Montesa cota mk1, and then an OSSA for a very brief time ending up with a Honda. Are there any clubs catering for older guys coming back? I would I guess have to start again and enter just Novice trials. How about Bikes, I don't recognise any of the names I see Montesa are still around as a 4 stroke, would it be unfair to ask which bike I should look at?, How much should I spend> I could afford a new bike but I would be happy to spend a lot less, where's the best place to buy? Sorry for so many questions and thanks in advance
