  1. Just completed a DIY exciter coild rewind with great success - so far ! I got hold of some 0.1mm magnet wire (enamel coated copper resisiter wire) used a dremil to remove the old windings - that was the hardest bit. cleaned off the enamel coating at the end of the wire and soldered it to the tail end of the old winding. if in doudt just wire it to the bar so it goes to earth. Then wind wind wind till you fill up the spool. ( I rigged up my electric drill for this bit) keeping the wire tight as you can. I gave up with neat winding and just tried my best to keep it even. when the spool was full 30 mins later, cut it off and soldered the end to the wire nipple and coated the whole lot in epoxy. fitted it to the bike and she fired up. £3 for the wire verses £80 for a new coil.

    Fork Oil

I drained the forks using the plug at the base. Added 190cc of oil and without a doubt they are better, but I still get an inch of un damped movement when compress the front end. More oil required? or leave as is?

    Betor Shock Rebuild

Interesting, so they get better the more use they have? My betors are quite simple, they have a small diameter piston and piston ring with reed valve fitted either side. This all runs inside a tube installed inside the main body of the shock. I imagine the outside of the tube is that air storage area.

    Betor Shock Rebuild

Chrome rod at the top and a drop more brake fluid (dot 4) and all is good.

    Betor Shock Rebuild

Am I testing them the correct way up? - Dunno, I have them chrome rode coming out of the top or chrome rod at the top to put it another way. Have I got enough oil in them - Dunno the answer to that either. There must be an air gap to allow for the rod displacment? or is it trial and error? keep adding a few drops until I reach hydraulic lock? or maybe it will damp in both directions before then? to allow for expansion of the oil? The seals are a bit shot, I have tried the brake fluid solution which has at least dramatically slowed the leak down. I am now packing an o'ring around the outside of the seal to reduce the seal bore diameter when all assembled, quite confident this will help. if not its out with the lathe to make up some new seal heads. By the way, I dont take trials all that seriously, its just a cheap day away from the wife and kids.

    Betor Shock Rebuild

Love too but the wife says no
  9. I have a pair of Betor 4885 shocks fitted to my fantic 200 I am trying to change the oil but cannot get them to damp in both dirrections without a half inch of free play first, any tips ?

    Fantic 200

Suprisingly, the bike ran quite well and didnt really let me down all day. It would bog and die on me if I left the throttle alone however, yet if I kept blipping it, it would run pretty much faultlessly. So I guess it could be running rich? Oh, the shocks dumped their oil, can I get replacment seals for the original shock? or am i looking to make my own?

    Reed Valve Conversion

Off to the breakers yard to see what I can find to cobble up.

    Fantic 200

£80 for a new stator coil, soon changed my mind. Cant be that hard to wind my own, I can count. Ordered a resistorless spark plug cap and a basic spark plug (will close the gap up as much as I dare) and see how that goes first.

    Fantic 200

Fired it up yesterday, It ran ok ish but wouldnt tick over. Today I drained the 2.5 year old fuel and cleaned the carb and fitted a new carb slide I picked up a while ago. ran much better but kicked back a bit on start up. So decided to retard the ignition a bit. Now it wont run at all. Fires occasionally but thats all. I think I'll buy a new generator coil and a new pick up coil and see if that helps. Entered a trial next weekend so gotta get this sorted this week. otherwise I'll be trials riding on my CRF450 and thats not been used in at least 6 years. probably need fresh fuel too.
  14. Has anyone tried a reed valve conversion on a 200?

    Fantic 200

Yeah I know ! I changed jobs / moved in with the mother in law / renovated an old cottage / built a garage and am now starting to think about bikes again.

    Fantic 200

Quick update - no idea yet, still not had a chance to use it. But I will report back when I do.
  17. I thought the 200's were positioned just fine? and that the 240's had to be moved back?
  18. I tried my 125 converted to a 156 yesterday for the first time and that bogged, I think I have read on here this can be caused by a dodgy HT coil. Is your still fitted with the metal cylindrical unit? Mine is so I am changing it.
  19. Not the most successfull day out. I discovered my clutch slips and my front brake is usless. But worst of all the bike bogged badly. I have just ordered a new HT coil in a hope this might be the problem. Otherwise, great little bike. Although I now need a new seal for one of my rear shocks, so if your going to bin those shocks can I have first dibs as I need the seal head.
  20. I picked mine up in mersyside. (probably been nicked hahaha) I'll restore mine one day but at the moment I have too much on my plate, so I'll just use it when I can. Your in the right place for spares if you live in somerset as you have bob wrights nearby in Weston. He will have all the parts you will ever need new or secondhand. I think there is another breaker in or near taunton who also has shed loads of Fantic parts.
  21. I also have the same model. Mine was in a similar state, its still in the same state but now together in one piece although with new tyres fitted, new engine bearings and a few new cables. Its having its first outing this sunday. I'll let you know how I get on.
  22. I beleive I read somewhere recently that, if you passed your driving test in the days where you were then given a complementary full moped licence, then there is norequirement to do a cbt test. Although this is not a widely known fact. can anyone confirm this is the case?
  23. Does anyone kmnow if it is possible to ride just the sunday at this event? Start time etc?
  24. Thanks Sam. We had a cracking day out and will be there for next year, hopefully with the full complement of fellow nutters. Although I believe the C90 thing has struck a cord with a few of you club members.
