They were a lovely little bike, just a little too ready to spit and stop if you wern't carefull. And the clutch a bit fierce even with the arm extended.I always thought the frame to be in 531 tube (there is a sticker that confirms it on a new bike). When i refurbished my 1st Seeley i was dismayed when i stripped the paint off the frame,to find it was seamed tubing- obviously not 531. So i got on the phone to Mr Seeley, who simply said "where is the sticker?" I replied "on the swinging arm". It turned out that only the s/arm is 531.

I once put a wanted ad in the old bike mart, SEELEY TL200E Wanted or non runner.I had a call from a chap in essex, said he had a mint example, never seen the dirt. Said he used to show it on colin seeleys stand. He told me that the whole project was a complete loss to mr seeley, the motor cost

Yes but they cant import anymore seeley's because there were only 300 in the first place!!.. and they were made in this country,, as more collectors are buying seeley's they will continue to go up in value while the TLR will come down in price..!! Anyone can go and buy a TLR but how many seeley's do you see??... a wise man would grab a seeley before they double in price..enough said. the seeley seller: Alan ps: that was my last seeley so dont ask

Most of the Hondas, RS200, TLR, RTL etc seem to be based on the same centre crankcases so most engines have the same mounting points to the frame. I've fitted an RTL engine to a Seeley and it went straight in, no changes required. The positioning of the head-steady mount on the cam cover can differ, as can the way the carburettor is mounted, but that is about it I think but I'm no expert on Hondas. That TLR on ebay doesn't actually look that bad, it's shabby but it could all be cosmetic. A stuck valve isn't necessarily a disaster, both valves were stuck in my engine but a few sharp taps on the tappet freed them off and the engine is very healthy (I know I'm going to regret that...) they were just stuck from lack of use. The last one on ebay, a few weeks ago, sold for almost

Yes it was Bill Pyes seeley, as i said in the ad on ebay Bill had asked me to sell it for him after he saw me sell mine, but it was easier just to give him the cash and take it away, that way i took control of everything... Bill is a bit wary of ebay and is fussy who he sells his bikes to, so this way he wont have to deal with the buyer.. any one can phone him at his garage "Frankfield Fantic" on 01642 722378, he will be more than happy to talk about the bike, he has told many people over the years that he would NEVER sell this bike, but he has decided to use a Fantic for setting his trials out, i guess it is better for business..!! Personally i always have 2 bikes that i use, a fantic 240 that i use every week, (and win on regularly) the other is a Honda TLR, i sold the TLR before christmas and then sold my Seeley that i had stashed in the back of the garage to give me the ready cash i need to build the new fantic that will become my primary bike, it is a fantic 301 with the forks and wheels from a fantic section, and will have the mono-shock removed and made into a twinshock. So i am selling all my Honda spares as i dont intend to have another.. lots more to list on ebay as i dig it all out. I hope this helps people understand where i am coming from, those of you who know me will understand that i belong on a Fantic Alan Cross

Is it Bill Pye's Seeley you've bought very recently and are now selling it on??? Why so soon??
-
I've had four Seeley Honda's- Nice little bike as long as you get one with the gusset under the headstock and thicker supports on the frame for the swinging arm spindle.I bought the very last one, Frame No SHT 1275 . Went to Colins shop to collect it and what should have been a pleasurable experience turned into a nightmare.Car tax or whatever it was had just been applied to bikes- but only if they were road registered. Well i didnt want to road register it but Colin still wanted the tax. Anyway, i won that one after a big argument, at least i thought i did till i got it home and found he'd nicked the CDI unit!

Yep the TL has a trials gear box, I just wondered if the ratio's were the same as the RS / Seeley box. As far as power, I mean't the stock TL. Hopefully mine will have a little more than stock when done. I could tell you but then I'd have to KILL you.

Is the carb to airbox hose unique to the seeley??... i have a new one and dont know wether to keep it or sell it,.. and i dont think the tank is any bigger, it may have just seemed a bit bigger because it is on the bike and has the fuel tank in it.
-
I'm with Big John on this. I understand that Colin Seeley had a batch of larger tank and seat units made to hold more petrol for the bikes used in the Scottish in 1980.(Lejeune and Hattori) I can remember seeing a larger volume tank/seat unit for sale in TMX years ago, it could be one of those, in which case I would say yes it is pretty rare
-
I could be wrong, i just had another look, and phoned Bill Pye, he bought this tank cover from colin seeley many years ago, and only fitted it to the bike 5 years ago.

I hope you have all seen the other seeley that i have just listed on ebay!! it is a real gem,, i will be happy to chat about it on here or over ebay, but i will be happy for any opinions.. Alan

So what are the best mudguards for the Seeley and where can I get a pair from? I suppose anything would look better than the white universals on at the moment, but it would be nice to get something close to the originals. Keep those Honda pics coming!

not 100% like the originals, but a good alternative for the seeley? for sale on: http://www.trialscentral.com/classifieds/d...php?siteid=1395

Excellent, thank you very much! Have only had a quick look since it was snowing when Dad picked me up from school, but he did say he had ridden it up and down the road. Started it up for me, and very impressed with the way it went - a slight tap on the kickstart was all it needed! Can't wait to see how it rides, and with everything polished it should look a treat! Have loved the twinshock Honda's since I rode my 1st bike, an old TLM50. The red/blue with white edges combined with the shape of the tank and the seat etc, makes them in my mind some of the best looking bikes ever. Coupled with their wonderful rideability they are very near perfect, except parts are so hard to find! I believe the Seeley is based on an XL180 and bits are a bit easier to source? Thanks again, and very much looking forward to the first 'outing'. Pete.

on that french site is an article about the seeley, saying you can use a xr200 piston http://tl.125.free.fr/MV102.htm (look at the end: 'le meccano honda')
-
Hi, there is talk of a bloke around here who fitted a Briggs and Stratton piston in his Seeley, (shocking I know) if you can contact Pitley he may be able to put you in touch. I dont know his name sorry.

Hi Pete, the frame's original colour is red, the original exhaust was made from mild steel with RSC embosed, but because they either rusted away or got dented and broke, people took them off and replaced them with alloy ones that simply sound much better as well, i do have an original exhaust but it has been repaired right over the RSC ! The front mudguard stay's also were easily damaged, but you should be able to make a better one more like the original quite easily, there are people that sometimes sell the stickers for the seeley on ebay, they are a great bike and i am sure it will be far better than your TLR 200, the power is smoother. I bought the bike from a friend who had it sat in his garage for years! i never rode it.. if you really get into Honda's look out for a golner TLR they are also very good !! I have been having a good clearout of my garage and have found a tank+seat unit for a seeley so i will be listing everything Honda on ebay soon.. I hope this helps and i would like to see a pic of the bike when you have it up to spec...polished etc, i will send a couple of pics to your dad aswell. Alan :-)

I have to say, it doen't look too bad in the flesh. And yes, I am the lucky guy who gets to ride the Seeley from ebay! Scrumpyjack, I think you came down yesterday to my Dad's place in Woodcote? Really looking forward to riding it, should suit my style more than a 2-stroke. I do have some questions though. What colour are the frames originally? What sort of bracket did they have holding the front mudguard on originally? Is the RSC logo on the exhausts I see on other pics a cover that goews over the end, or is it the exhaust itself? An finally, what are the original stickers for the tank/the sidepanel bits (I know its all one, but how else to describe it!) and are they still available? Any answers would be wonderful, as would any history of the bikes in general! I do feel very lucky to be able to ride a machine like that, and probably the closest I will ever get to a works Honda! Thanks in advance (I hope!) for any answers/info! Pete.

Hi All, i am not sure who cut the loop off my old seeley, but the frame was un-altered apart from that, the rear arms were not pointed up above standard. I do have lots more honda stuff for sale Tlr 200 engine, Tl 125 engine, full set of lights speedo and cable from a TLR 200 E... and another original seeley, I am moving away from honda's and concentrating on my fantic 240 that i ride every week, the Honda's just cant take the strain! remember a bike is for life..not just for xmas

another seeley for a silly price http://www.francetrialclassic.com/zoom/10/Honda_Seeley_200/

Really nice example tlrs. As you are a Honda expert, our Seeley was bought brand new in 82 from 'Vale Onslow's' and it was fit with Marzocchi rear shocks and white preston petty mudgaurds as standard but didn't have the black plastic sump guard. Have you seen one like this before? It was one of the very early ones, they had it in the shop for ages they just couldn't sell it due to the high price.
