Nice write up on the EVO. I was surprised that you did not mention how smooth the engine is. I have never felt anything to be so electric smooth.

I need to get my hands on Joe's bike now that it is broke in and adjust his carb.

Ok Two things are easy to fix on "what you do not like list."

1.Clutch. You can easily remove 1-2 lbs of pull effort off the clutch with some clean up. Just takes some time. A couple guys have done some nice write ups on this here on TC.

Jim Gawne also did his and it was very nice.

2.Rear Shock. You are spot on with the rear end being sprung to soft. Good News is that your local Beta dealer (yup its me) is in the process of removing the spring from a new NON ridden EVO and is measuring the spring rate and having a couple new srpings wound up. One 10% stiffer and one 15%.

I will test and which ever one feels best for the majority of us riders over 180lbs I will have one for my bike and a couple for my inventory.

You have to be careful not to go to stiff on the spring since it could start to fail other parts. I have made springs for my Techno's and Montesa's in the past and have been very pleased with the results.

Glad to hear that you liked the EVO. We have 4 EVO's in MOTA currently so they will be easy to give a try to those that are interested. I am also bringing one to our MOTA Banquet for all to view.

Do you offer a heavier spring for a 2006 Rev-3?

I'd like to hear about the clutch mod. Mine is a bit stiff and heavy but I can live with it.

Biff, I didn't really know if I would like my Rev-3 until I put a pair of the RYP "Full-Back" pegs on it. I hated them on my GasGas because it made the front end too light. On the Beta, it makes the front end just right for me.

I've heard a few people talk about how smooth the EVO 290 engine is. I chose a 250 Rev-3 because it felt more controllable to me. The 270 felt like it had the hit of a motocrosser. The 250 feels very electric with a slow throttle.

Hmmm that could be it. Did you rise your bars too? I 6.0 feet and have ridden scorpas and montesa with set bag pegs and feel hunched after the mod.

The engine is very smooth but i was not doing anything crazy.

I'm 6' tall too. I have the stock bars but I ended up moving them towards me once I put the pegs on and farther back than I did on my Gas Gas. The full-back pegs are 3/4" farther back than normal if I remember correctly. It lightens the front end of the Beta just enough and makes the bike feel less like a freight train. It also helped me from feeling like I was too far over the front end on steep drop off or down hill sections. I've never had risers before. What do they do to the ride characteristics of the bike?

As to the rear shock... it is set up very soft from the factory. I'm 6'0, 200lbs and had to nearly bottom out the rear spring to get the sag where I wanted it. I also put about 10 turns into the front forks. After these changes, the suspension is awesome, much better than my Rev-3 (especially the rear). It zaps much better and absorbs hits better as well. Also easier to hop the rear (the front hops better to, but I think that has more to do with the lighter weight and new engine position).

Mine was also jetted very well from the factory, haven't noticed it dribbling gas out of the carb either. Also, this is the first Beta I've had that hasn't tried to eat the rear mud flap. Overall, I'm very happy with it and think the changes they made were pretty much all for the better.

I've only owned Beta's, so I'm used to the on/off clutch (I actually prefer it), but I will agree that it would be nice if the pull were a little lighter.

- with regrads to clutch lightening, what is the suggested "clean up"?

I know this post is supposed to be an EVO topic, but the RYP Full-Back pegs was something I wanted to know also.

So, after a bit of googling I come up with this:

I was looking at copying the way the '07 Rev3 footpeg bracket was lower and back to my '03 one.

I think these pegs alone will solve both of these issues. (except the exchange rate for me would be the issue for me now!)

my mate was out on his evo today, he went down a steep gully side and the front mudguard caught on

the front pipe and snapped the back section of the front mudguard off, not good for a bike less than

6 hours old. i cant belive that with all the testing the must have done this didnt happen. he also says

that after washing off the bike the air box always has water in the bottom and no drain plug.
