Obama And Gordon Brown

Please accept my humble apology for the shabby treatment Gordon Brown received during his recent visit with Obama. I am not fond of Prime Minister Brown but 25$ worth of CD's as a gift is pretty niggardly. Maybe Obama is out of money after spending trillions on pork.

Cheers

I am under the (possilbly false) impression that the Brits would have welcomed Pres Obama giving PM Brown even less. Perhaps a simple "you f^&king w%$#er!" would have done? ;)

Whats he supposed to have done, that every other politician would have done differently?

They are all muppets but then its our fault they are where they are?

This is true. The present crop of toadying creeps that pass themselves off as politicians are all pretty weak, regardless of party or country.

I read an interview recently with a former father of the house and he mentioned that he missed the days of "amateur" politicians (politicians who had a profession to which they would return once their tenure in public service was complete) and mentioned that those politicians would represent the interest of their constituancy and not their party and, because they had a profession, were perfectly prepared to tell their party to go to pot if they disagreed with them. "By the people, for the people" I think the expression is.

The historian Paul Johnson has warned, repeatedly, about the evils of professional politicians.

Sadly, politicians will not vote themselves out of a job. Turkeys rarely vote for christmas/thanksgiving.

What could Brown do about it Dabster? A lot. He was chancellor when the banks were having a field day handing out credit to all and sundry, whether or not they could afford it, and playing pass-the-parcel with the bad debts. Short of introducing legislation he could have, at the very least, warned the banks off. Gawd even I could see it coming. It was just a matter of when. The pyramid of debt was simply unsustainable.

*edit* if I end another sentence with a preposition you may get Highland lass to whip me.

Truthly we should have gone into a recession about 3 years ago but our generals thought it good if we bought ourselve's out of it.Whats that saying, you dangle the carrot someone's bound to go for it,and they did, half the population of the UK went for it.

Blair,Brown knew exactly this was coming that's why Blair legged it,now that should have rang alarm bells with the public.

As it happens it's turned out in Browns favour,he's starting to own bank's.He must be waking up each morning with a lovely big smile on he's face....

I read somewhere the other day that he's going to try and put a stop to the Tax Free Offshore banking.

OK I have read a little bit about this "Gift giving Snub, fiasco....whatever"

Here is my opinion, totally different than anything I have read so far.

These 2 gentlemen were to meet and get some work done. They were working, in my opinion NO GIFT was necessary. Why are there gifts being exchanged anyways. Getting the job done is more important than kissing each others butts to try and make nicey nicey. I don't like everybody I work with (oooh big surprise) and I suspect nobody else on here does either, but I still have to work with them.

Secondly these gifts were to these two men why does the rest of the world care? Christ this is almost as bad as "needing" to see the photos of a beat up Rhianna. The only thing I care about the meeting between these two is this..........DID SOMETHING GET SOLVED!!!!

So let's quit worrying about trivial things that the media seems to believe are important and demand some news about something that is actually important.

Anybody know what the meeting was about?

Does anybody know what got solved, decided or implemented?

Probably not, but by golly the whole ****ING world knows who gave what gift!!!

What's he supposed to do about it!!??

This is the myopic , f***ing ring-piece that said (as Chancellor and as PM )''No more boom to bust cycles'' ;) ''I'm building a stable economy''??

How naive can you get?

This gave a clear message to the whole of the country that borrowing/spending (against your property or not) was a safe as..well...houses?

This guy recklessly, sold off our gold assets without any thought for the future.

Fred the shred Goodwin wonders why Gordon's trying to grab back his pension..well Brown's had a go at everyone elses so what makes Fred so special?

The bubble has burst ,globally, but the problem is the UK's bubble was way bigger than anyone elses (proportionally) because of f***wits like Brown.

Let's get something crystal clear here....There was no General Election to vote Gordon Brown Prime Minister !

It was actually 25 DVDs that Obama gave Brown.

So please get your facts straight before resorting to racial name calling.

There is nothing racist in the word Niggardly. Niggardly comes from the noun niggard which means miserly or mean etc. It has nothing to do with nigger and therefore race. So the word is used in it's correct context meaning that the act of giving such a paltry present was mean or stingy.

However, I agree 100% with your sentiments on the 'importance' of who gave what to whom. Who cares, he's there to do a job, not for personal gratification. Now he may have an idea how pensioners feel when he gives them their winter bonuses or pension increases. Maybe it gives him an idea of how cheated our soldiers feel when they receive their paltry compensation payouts from injuries received fighting for their country. The 'worth' of the gift is symbolic of the respect that the giver shows to the receiver. Perhaps he now understands how insignificant or worthless his policies make hard working people in thiis country feel whilst layabouts, hooligans and minority groups continue to prosper from them.

I hope he felt a real ****

Well, learn something new everyday, After a little searching it appears the common belief is that niggard and therefore niggardly are possibly of Scandinavian origin and not associated with the dreadful N-word of Latin origin.

I suspect DFWilson may have known this, but chose to use that particular word instead of "miserly" or "stingy" due to its closeness in sounding like the dreaded N-word and the color of our current president.

Oh yea, that is right, it was 25 DVDs, that won't work on a UK DVD player.

How do you know this for sure?

You have seen the actual DVDs given to Brown?

You have been given an official press report from Obama or Brown to the properties of said DVDs?

Fine, I get the point that you feel the gift was "cheap and non-memorable" but my point is if you are going to complain. get the facts straight as to what the gift was.

OH yea, Who cares about the gifts????? did they get any work done?

What was decided, implemented or instituted that will fix this global economic crisis thingy?

I want to afford to go riding again.

Zippy,

I heard about the gift fiasco on the news. The reason that the gift was important is that UK is a trusted friend and ally. Obama treated the relationship as though the UK was the dirtbag republic of Lower East Fluvianastan.

I certainly hope that neither Brown or Obama got anything done or are able to get anything done in the future. The UK is mired in socialism and we don't need to head any further that direction.

On another front; it won't be long until Obama and his enviro buddies outlaw all 2T bikes and then make it a felony to make a tire print in the dirt. Enjoy your trials bike while you still can.

Cheers
