I'm 17 in January and I'm going to start driving lessons, when I have passed both my theory and practical is it legal for me to have a bike rack on the back of my car to transport my gas gas or do I have to be a certain age? Strange question I know, thank you in advance for any help.

The only thing that may be worth considering is the car, they do look a bit strange on small cars

The smallest I have fitted a rack to was an old mk5 escort diesel, with a BSA Victor (about twice as heavy as a modern trials bike)

Well I have a Gas Gas 2011 and it will be on my 2010 Polo so I'm hoping that won't look too silly. haha

Don't want to ruin all your positive feedback but I'm sure there is a problem with nose weights in relation to these racks. It's not a problem if you have a heavier vehicle like a Landrover discovery etc but is a problem with smaller cars. Not sure your legal from an insurers point of view in the event of a claim. You should check it out, wouldn't want to see your driving record blighted by ignorance. Hope I'm wrong.

you need to check the maximum weight that can be applied to the tow bar, this isn't the towing weight which would relate to a trailer or caravan total weight, its weight applied by the towed trailer to the tow bar.

on my old Peugeot 309 this was only 90 ish kilo, you need to weigh the rack plus bike to calculate the weight applied.

I was lucky I could quote the figures when a traffic cop said it looked like I had exceeded the weight as the back of the car was low, he took my word that I hadn't as I knew what he was talking about.

Are you still able to use your towbar to tow as well as carrying a bike or just carry a bike or tow a trailer but not the two together I run a 4x4 jeep . As I never seen the carry frame for a bike please excuse if its idiotic what I have asked and just say no. I only ask as I go to france every summer and being able to take a bike appeals .
