Hi! I'm thinking of upgrading my ty250 twinshock forks, could do with some advice on what forks work well ?

 

do you mean setting them up properly, or replacing them with different forks?

Replacing them, there pitted & leaking! 

You can get them re-chromed, which is worthwhile - with upgrades they're good forks

I didn't know whether to go down route of fitting mono forks or similar 

Probably cheaper to get them re-chromed than fit something else as no forks are cheap and you have to have yokes too, then make the front wheel fit or replace that too.  About £160 for re-chrome collected and delivered by Philpotts.  Forks alone will cost you that and you have to hope they are in good order if buying unseen on sonmeone's word

Yes! Good point, they say the magical internals work ok 

Magicals work exceptionally well, especially if you've still got the original springs in!

As Woody says a £160 rechrome from Philpotts is very good value,they did my AJS forks - very pleased with them. From what I understand people who have tried mono forks on a TY twinshock have often gone back to the originals. Magical springs have a good reputation,but even as standard they are a good fork.

Re chrome sounds like the way to go ??

Pretty sure that it has been said for mono forks to work properly the steering head angle needs pulling in

A different brake plate is also needed due to how the brake is secured on the mono fork

will I need the magical damper rods & springs to get my original forks working better ?

Can't hurt, new springs & copies of the works damper rods would have to be an improvement over 40 year old parts

If you want to do it once, do it right!
