Fantic 301?

Featured Replies

I just looked on ebay since I had it open anyway, lol ... try checking InMotion though, they're more likely to have a comprehensive stock of stuff like that!

Couple more questions!...whats the largest size front sprocket you can get to fit the bike...also best oil to use in the pre mix..ratio 40-1?.....best gearbox oil..?.....thanks

I daresay you won't be going to the Telford Show but if you are you might visit this stall  2t-offroad    (2T now hold the stock of a previous Fantic specialist).  You could always just contact them I suppose.

No I wont be able to make it..but thanks very much for the info

gear box 500 ml of ATF oil or light gear oil Putoline, or RS75 Putoline (my favorit)

mix 50:1 with mineral 2t oil

or 70/80:1 with 100%sintetic 2t oil

or 65:1 with semisintethic 2 t oil

Thanks.....could you tell me ,regarding gearing...would the 301 pull a 13T front sprocket...with a 39T rear?...….im using the bike in a fun event, which is not trials..where I need more top speed......also is the gearing,in the gearbox different to say a normal endure bike,or is it just the outside front and rear sprocket??

Very different. Basically you have four gears fairly close together that you can use in suitable sections, a fifth good for cross country with top for faster off road and comparatively comfortable road use.

The standard front was 10 or 11 I think, not sure of standard rear but your proposed gearing would probably kill sixth at least, certainly off road. I can't remember what mine was like but it was pulling a sidecar anyway. You will have noticed that it does not have the poke of an enduro bike.

Thanks that's great info....its a quarter mile drag race!!...so maybe start in 2nd or 3rd gear?....I just need a longer first gear to get away and not change up so quickly...….

Trials bikes are not geared like street bikes, the first four gears take you to about where 1st gear on a street bike would be.  If geared up it'll get up to something like 40mph within 30 meters, and then not go much faster.

If you wanted a bike to compete in a drag race a trials bike is about as far from ideal as you could get, they're literally made for going slow; a stock CB125 would get a better time.

turbofurball,thanks...i might have to change plan!!!..:-)

Not sure it would like being held flat out for a quarter mile anyway, really not what it's designed for
