Montesa Cota 200 (1981 ?) restauration
Im using 10w40 in the gearbox. The manual calls for 10w30 but I havent had any issues. Mixing the fuel with synthetic Castrol 2 stroke oil at 50:1. Spark plug is an NGK B6ES.

I’m sorry but I don’t know. It does say it’s for 1978 and onwards. Best of luck!

Tire fabrication date
First 2 digits is the # of the week, last 2 digits are the year abbreviated, same with all tires.

Montesa Cota 200 (1981 ?) restauration
@ScottDownSouth Thanks for your help mate ! I'll definitely do that whenever I've got time. The second one is a Montesa Cota 75 (idk the exact year, probably in the late 70's). I love your bike, it's has be amazing to ride I guess ! Do you have any idea about it value on the market ? what oil lubricant are you using for the mix ? I'd thought about 10w40 or Motul 300v. And that about the oil lub for the gearbox ? Is there any type of spark plug I should use ? Thanks for your help !

Help identifying Engine and Frame numbers
My guess is you've got a Bitsa. B-68 Pursang MK4 250 Frame with a M-67 Sherpa S MK2 200 Engine. You could check the bore/stroke of the engine to confirm the capacity and hence the likely donor.

Montesa Cota 200 (1981 ?) restauration
Hi mate, I have the same bike. Nice little Montesas! Yes I would flush the tank and put fresh fuel in it. Drain the fuel from the carby bowl. Check the Gearbox oil and sparkplug, see if it has spark. Check the condition of the air filter. They're usually good places to start. In Motion in the UK has quiet a few spares for these if needed. Pistons are rare though. What's the other Montesa in the background? Cheers, Scott.

Montesa Cota 200 (1981 ?) restauration
Hi there, I'm starting a Montesa Cota 200 restauration. My Grandfather bought it at the Montesa factory back in the time (first hand). She stayed maybe 30 years without starting. Could you help me with find the documentation I need (I speak Spanish so it might be easier to find one). I already have the parts plans in exploded view, but no technical documentation... I gently kicked it, and there’s no problem with the engine (I guess so, I could have kicked it entirely). It’s my first restauration and I have some very basic knowledge in mechanic, but it’s my first time in mechanic. The bike looks great, I don’t think there’s any rust on it. I’d like to remove the tank to clean it before filling it, what do you think about it ? I don't want to start it without checking the tank and his state (idk if you know what I mean, English isn't my first language). I'd like to check several parts before starting it. Also, there's the black part on the top of the shocks absorber (back) cracked, where can I find parts if they're still available ? Thanks for your help ! Ride safe ✌🏻

Help identifying Engine and Frame numbers
Hey all, looking for some help to ID my engine and frame numbers. Some lists I found online have been conflicting so wanted to check here for clarification. Frame is B-68 and Engine is M-67 Any help much appreciated!

Beta Sincro leaking gas
I had an issue on an Evo where if the bike tipped over, the overflow hose would fill with fuel and siphon fuel out of the bowl. I cut a small notch in the line close to the carb and that stopped it.

New tyre is tubeless and heavier.

Irc tyres
Hi, the older tube tyre dated 5212, trialed on a bantam and run both directions. New tyre is up to date. Thanks

Little question about dimple plates
If that is what a Montesa specialist sells then you are in a bad way , APICO sell a dimpled set of steels but then those perhaps are a set from APICO , who knows .

Little question about dimple plates
Think I’d be contacting the supplier & asking their opinion/advice. You might have got a poorly finished product or it could be a new trend. I think general consensus would be to dress the raised edges down smooth but who knows. Why should you have to do this on a brand new item. Refund or replacement calls or we’re all daft.😂.

Hello - joining to learn!
I am a keen and frankly **** mountain biker. Looking to learn about trials as my son is keen. He has the talent I would have loved, but he struggles in life

Little question about dimple plates
Thanks for your reply I bought them from a well known Montesa specialist, not my dealer, so I expected to receive some decent quality but I'm affraid you're right. What is a good brand? I don't have any experience in this matter. I think I can get them in a useable shape but it will take some time

Little question about dimple plates
I definitely would file them off If I was going to use them , but they sound like they are cheap rubbish from how you described them. Perhaps a better brand of product may be worth the extra expense.

Irc tyres
I think I can read on the scales that the new tyre is about 2.5 pounds heavier than the old tyre. Some of that will be rubber loss but not that much. Maybe they stiffened the design. Old IRCs are notoriously "flexible" and require the air pressure to be spot on. I would be very happy to be able to buy new IRCs, even if they are a bit heavier than they used to be. How old is the used one? They have the manufacturing date on them. The wear pattern on the used tyre looks nothing like my worn IRCs. Was it used for trials riding?
