EM (Electric Motion)

  1. Hi guys. I've got a new to me em 5.7 around 2012 (no idea how to figure out the year) Basically the green light is always on. No matter if the battery is switched off or the switch gear is off. The only way I can turn off the green light is to disconnect the wiring at the 2 amp fuse . The handle bar switch appears to work for killing the bike. But the green light remains on regardless. I'm guessing this isn't right. I'll pull the switch apart and have a look. But any advice appreciated. Cheers

  2. Started by trapezeartist,

Last weekend threw up a problem on my 2023 ePure Race. After about 2 hours of practice riding I returned to my car and parked up. A few minutes later I was going to take the lazy way out and ride the bike round in a circle to load up. However I couldn't, because every time I attached the lanyard I got the beeps that say "You've got some throttle on so I'm not going to let you select a map." I fiddled with the lanyard and the throttle, switched off and on, but nothing solved it so I pushed the bike. At least I was lucky it didn't do it at the far end of the site which would have left me with a 1 mile uphill push 😱.So today I have dug into things further. I tried switching …

I’m having an intermittent problem with my 2022 Epure Race. A couple of days ago, I started riding in blue mode with tick over on. Very quickly, it switched to green. Pushing the selector button again to blue, it again switched back to green when riding a short distance (it stayed in the same TKO mode). I rode back to the van, took off the covers, wiggling wires and harnesses did not trigger it. What did trigger it was hitting the right side of the motor with the palm of my hand. It was surprisingly easy to trigger it this way. Also, tilting the bike to the extreme left triggered it. Unfortunately, the problem stopped after about 15 minutes and I haven't been able t…

Sorry if this is the wrong place for this - logically to me it belongs in EM. The only fault I can find with the latest EM bikes is that they are a bit heavier than the ICE alternative. With solid state batteries soon to be a feature of the light car market I wonder if this will be the next development for electric trials bikes? The downside is going to be cost andalready the EM is more expensive than a Montesa or similar, but to be fair not by much. Anyway some news on this front in my feed propted me to look at this road bike development: https://www.ducati.com/ww/en/news/ducati-s-electric-research-continues-with-the-v21l-prototype-and-solid-state-batte…

My missus is struggling to find an insurer that will cover her factor-e. The bike does not sem to appear on any of the main insurer's databases. I tried to add it to my (Aviva) multibike but they do not list it. We found a specialist trials company that offered theft but it was twice the price of my multibike (Suzuki GSX and Honda CRF) or the wife's Ducati Monster insurance. i just wondered if anyone has found a regular company that will cope with this model? The "specialist" for electric (motor) bikes I found cover the escape but not the factor-e so could not get a quote from them either. Only looking for theft cover.

  6. Started by nostroke,

I want my 2024 sport to sound like Toni's 4 stroke torquer since I've been inundated with his impossible antics on Instagram. I love the one finger diaphragm clutch but to really get the feel of motor /flywheel inertia, I want a low frequency pop instead of the 'zing' sound which is mainly due to gear train noise. So I took a cheap 12VDC car alarm out of the trash and tapped it across two random AC motor phase leads, just for giggles. And predictably, it first smoked a little, probably the 50+ volts into 12 V circuit thing, no surprise. But then it kept working and would produce an ugly growly sound proportional to RPM. I'm not an Electrical Engineer but no doubt so…

Hello everyone, New EM owner here, picked up a used 22 epure race couple weeks ago. What a fun bike, been having a blast with it. Although I have one issue that I cant figure out, went through this forum and haven’t seen a similar issue. When riding the bike for a bit randomly it will start to hold revs sort of similar to if the TKO is turned on even tho it is not on. If I hold in the clutch and release the throttle the revs will very slowly come back down very similar to a lean condition on a ICE bike. But With no clutch engaged the bike does not pull or want to inch forward. It will do this in all 3 maps. Then after a little while of this if I pull the kill tether …

  8. Hey Guys, In the past few days, my Electric Motion Trial has occasionally cut the throttle while riding. Now it doesn’t work at all. The kill switch still lights up, but there is no startup sound and the map switch doesn’t light up anymore. The battery provides about 50V and the battery relay clicks as expected. I also tried bypassing the kill switch, but it didn’t help. thanks!

Just a heads up that the (whole) EM factory team are runing a couple of short EM training sessions at Kettering on the Monday (8 Sep) after the GP weekend. Its booked with Inch Perfect and only open to EM bikes. I have a TRS so it will just be the missus going. At the moment she is on her own so I am hoping this post might prompt some other people to book up or they will cancel it and I will never hear the last of it. Full details on the IP website.

I had a really good feel for my old (2021) bike with a 51T sprocket on it. Foolishly I left it on when I changed the bike, thinking it would be easy enough to get another one for my new (2023) bike. It's not. I can't find one anywhere. Does anyone one have one to sell, or know where I could get one? 51T preferred but I would go with 50T or 52T too.

Here are some footpegs that i cobbled together. They are crude and heavy but allow me to try different peg placement, they are about 1/2 inch (12-13mm) forward and lowered the same amount. I also did away with the forward slant of the stock pegs. They are much more conducive to sitting on the seat and transitioning between sitting and standing, they affect ground clearance very little. They are a big improvement for me, I hope to have a nicer set made, I'm happy with the forward position but I'd like them another 5-8mm lower.

  12. The write-ups are quite technical, but maybe some here will be interested. This link is the actual retrofit process: https://www.electricmotiontech.com/home/em-5-7/sx-controller-retrofit This link describes some preliminary work to familiarize myself with the SX controller: https://www.electricmotiontech.com/home/em-5-7/sx-controller-experiments

In todays episode of "what's he broke now?" Changed the clutch oil, Drained old out and replaced with 260mm of new but now the clutch doesnt engage at all. Thought it could need bleeding so i first filled from the bleed nipple, then as that didn't work bled all the fluid out and refilled again but still not working and i'm out of ideas? Also what a stupid place to put that bleed nipple, every video I've watched has an easy access one not a stupid angled one.... Also i need to replace the drain plug as the allen thread has rounded, can i get a generic one from anywhere (UK) and what size is it as the parts list doesnt state the size? …

  14. Hey guys. My 2021 em escape r has stopped working. Ran it thru a pretty boring run up the mountain, came back down, everything was fine. The next day I go to start it and nothing. The battery engages, lanyard works, head display shows 98% and switching map to green light but their is zero power to the motor. Tried the reset cycle. Nothing. Even went as far as to replace the throttle control with a new domino throttle. Nothing. Has anyone dealt with this problem or does anyone know how the heck to fix this? Checked all connections, battery, fuse and everything's good.

  15. Started by WIX-ONE,

I'm asking the question first before i attempt to open it up. Is it possible to adjust the rotation of the throttle so the housing with the wire can point in a different position. I'm thinking this has been done to my throttle already as the open and closed positions differ from the other bike i have and this one will clash with the brake adjuster if i put it in the position i need it. Currently the closed position lines up with the clip on the housing body (blue line) whereas i need it to be the open position lining up with the clip so the main part of the housing points down rather than being where it is clashing with the brake lever. I hope this mak…

I've just bought a 24 Escape X, I plan to ride it a bit as delivered to get the feel of things before I try EM Connect, I'm very much an old dog that needs to learn some new tricks. I'm a bit intimidated by modern electronics, I mostly just use my phone as a phone. The manual seems to explain things pretty well but I'm skeptical that it will really be that simple. Can anyone give me any tips that will make my first experience with EM Connect easier? On another note, I plan to install a left hand lever for the rear brake and remove the foot brake due to my own disability. Research has led me towards using a 9mm Brembo clutch master cylinder for the rear brake althoug…

  17. Started by trapezeartist,

I raised this as one of my points on this other thread but it was too many questions at once, and most of it has fallen by the wayside now anyway. So I thought I would address this one question again. My aim is to achieve a little bit of engine braking with the throttle closed, similar to a petrol bike. The Mecatecno I tried had this. Having studied the information on konrad's website, I'm proposing to use the microswitch in the Domino throttle to feed about 1 volt into the PRB connector. I'll use the PRB/FRB Y-piece to actually make the connection at that end, meaning of course that the FRB won't work, but that doesn't matter. To get the 1 volt, I'm hoping to …

  18. Started by trapezeartist,

I have now been riding an EM for 4 years but there are still things I think could be done better, and I'm wondering if they are possible. I would like to have a little bit of "engine braking" when the throttle is closed. I quite like the idea of the "Finger Throttle" on this page, https://www.electricmotiontech.com/home/em-epure-race/regen-experiments. If I understand correctly, this would be a straight bolt-on if I could get the right finger throttle. It could replace the present PRB-R (2023 bike) and the 0.8 volt would provide the engine braking. Right? I only ever use green and blue maps so I would like to get rid of the red map so that the sequence would b…

  19. Our club (XHG Tigers) will host a test day with Inch Perfect at our ground near Poole/Bournemouth. Date (unless everything goes wrong) is planned for 9th August. We will put a practice trial on as well so you can have a ride if you bring your own bike. I will update this thread as all the details finalise and the invitations for the test rides and trial go live. Hope to see a few of you there on the day.

  20. Started by WIX-ONE,

Me again! Ok todays problem is as follows: Went out riding and after about an hour the bike (Epure race 2021) kept dropping the map intermittently and returning to the clear light. No rhyme or reason to it, sometimes up hill sometimes down. Messed about abit and i could replicate it when the handlebars went full lock either way so faulty wire i thought, easy fix, trace the wire and sort it. Got home, washed the bike, removed the fairing but now no power at all going to the map light (still power to the kill switch). My son has the same bike so i thought i'll try plugging in his map switch/map light but still nothing. Then i tried it with the throttle …
