Just a query,a mate of mine was told you could fit the electronic ignition off a DT straight on to a TY with no mods. If this is the case, why is,nt everyone fitting them?Must be more to it?

Hi, i bought this bike last week for some extra parts. first i thought somebody did put some big wheels on a ty80 but when i looked closer i found out that also the frame and swingarm have some strange sizes. the frame has a 451 number so that must be a ty80 ( or am i wrong here?) but it's bigger than a normal ty80 and there is a space between the engine and the frame ( see pictures). the swingarm also looks original but it's to long!?? does anybody know if this is a standard factory frame/bike? or is the frame hand made/wasted? thanks D.

Hi, I am toying with the idea of converting my Yamaha Pinky to twinshock. The main reason is so that I can ride some neighbouring club trials in twinshock class. Our club HEREFORDSHIRE CLASSIC TRIALS CLUB runs an a/c mono class but the neighbours dont. Is there anyone out there who has done the same, and if so is it much hassle. I ask because the swingarm doesn't have a lot of meat in it, unlike a box section as on a TLM 200, a mate of mine converted his to twinshock in no time. Thanks.

Here is my Pinky which I completed and rode today, Thanks to all that helped me along the way. I have resized afew pics to make them small enough but it says I can't add them so if anyone knows please shout out as I have two more of the bike as it is now and one when I got it a few months ago. I have re-built it to ride, not to polish and have already scraped some stickers off, it is my first project so be gentle! I have stripped it down, had the frame shotblasted and powder coated back to white (from Green!) and replaced afew bits and bats along the way to put it back to original colours etc. It rides well, a couple of minor adjustments to front & back brake will …

My dad has just took the exhaust off my yamaha ty250s exhaust to unchoke it a bit in an attempt to gain more power but he isnt sure whether he should repack it or not. Do any of you guys know how important it is to pack it and whether or not it will effect anything other than the noise suppression?

Does anyone know where I can lay my hands on a clutch lightener for the 1990 pinky I am rebuilding? I have seen and heard of the one that is basically an extended arm at the point where the cable dissapears into the gearbox. I am told the handlebar pulley type is not as good and also looks a bit bulky to me.

Hi All, I've got 2 TY15's on the go, just started to strip the motors and have found that both clutch baskets have perceptible rotational play between the centre boss and the basket itself. They seem to be riveted together.... is this normal or would the rivets require a remedial hammering? This is yet another in a probable long line of questions during this dollar sapping process!! Thanks - Mark Perth, Australia

Hi, Can anyone give me the standard specs for a ty80 carb ? Jet sizes , pilot screw position , and especially the needle number as i dont think it is the correct one. it supped about half a litre of fuel in a couple of minutes ( cant be right ) !!!! Just put this back together from a complete wreck that some kids had been ragging around as a field bike. Nice little machine now but seems to be running way to rich ! Also any idea where I can get a needle from ? Many thanks Jim.

Hi can anyone tell me if the swinging arm on my w/hawk should be fitted with dust seals on the end of the bush ? also should it be fitted with a nylon buffer around the s/arm to stop the chain from eating into the metal? it is also cutting into the cross member above the chain so should it have one of those chain rollers fitted or is the chain just to loose? (although i dont consider it to be)hope someone can help as i enjoy riding it but my local m/cycle shops cannot tell me because its not the standard frame. thanks for your help and time Sam

Hi all, does anyone know of any sensible mods to liven up a standard TY175? I'd like to make it respond a little more like modern bikes. Maybe take some meat off the face of the flywheel (how much?) and I know the porting can be altered but don't know the specifics... and I'd hate to end up with a useless barrell! Thanks in anticipation Mark, Perth Australia

Many of you will have read about my old problematic TY250S, after a year of trying I managed to almost fix it, still oils its plug up but takes weeks to do so. Any way that one may be for sale now because I have bought a new one! It is a 1988 TY 250 R with a talon drilled disc conversion, I have just finished renovating it, tell me what you think...

Hi, My Yamaha TY80 manual states the correct gearbox oil as 10W-30. The only oil I can find locally is semi-synthetic 10W-30. Does anyone know if this will be O.K. Or do I ned to keep searching. Thank you in advance.
