My 1978 TY175 was last started several weeks ago and ran like a dream. Now it won't start - there's no sign of a spark at all. I'm no electrical expert but so far: I'm seeing about 3.5 volts AC on the black/white wire to the Low Tension side of the ignition coil. For this I'm turning the engine over with a drill using the 19mm nut that holds the flywheel/magnets on, with the plug out so that I'm not fighting the compression. I'm using a digital volt/ohm meter. So I'm assuming the source coil etc side of things is okay? The ignition "source" ohms are as per the book. I've tried my spare ignition coil (can't remember where I got it, so it could be duff) and two spark…

there's a long story assiciated with this question, I'll skip that. can anyone tell me how long that straight pushrod is supposed to be? i had my bike apart to figure out why the clutch dragged, and the ball bearing was missing. I had one here, put it where it belongs, and now the clutch slips. I have the cable disconnected, and the cam/lever thing on the case is barely touching the pushrod. I'm wondering now if someone put a longer rod in there and left the ball out on purpose.

I've bought a Whitehawk 200 Barrel, head and piston to fit to my TY175 Couple of questions..... 1 - What Piston was used ? Piston looks OK but has blown past the rings a little - could do with a new one if I can find one. 2 - Any mods advised to Carb or Airbox (Currently running standard both) Any other advice appreciated cheers John

Hi all I have a TY and whe i first got it it was a bugger to start, anyway i fitted a O-rng kit off evilbay and the bik started better and seemed to run better, the float needle was prone to sticking but i have cleaned everything I could and it still was a bad starter but once warm was fine.it sat for a month with the carb drained and i cant start it now,it runs for a bit on the choke but won't run off choke, have a good spark and wet fuel on plug so its getting through, any suggestions? is ther an sir screw position that is best? we've had the carb apart several times and it's got us stumped. when i got the bike there was a tube thatwas connected to the choke side and ran…

Hi. Thanks for all the excellent TY info here. I used to ride a Bultaco in some of the local vintage events, but that was 20 years ago. I recently bought a pile of stuff that should yield one fairly complete 250, and tripped over a TY175 last week. One of them will be my new machine. I can't wait to go ride with all the other old guys. Personally, I'm hoping the 175 works out. Although they seem to be pretty popular in Europe, I don't know if i've ever seen another here in the states. It is a cool little machine. If I get a minute tomorrow, I'll post a couple photos. pretty solid bike, although there are a few odd things to sort. I may also have questions to p…

Hi Guys, New to this forum, recently my old dear has given me her Yam TY250, although it has been standing for a couple of years and it wont kick over? I have a feeling simply changing the plug isn't going to cut it, although its the first job on the list. From the Reg I believe its an and#39;84 year if that helps with the model. Any pointers? Also does anyone have a manual PDF? Cheers!

So got my bike running, it was the condenser after all that. Ran it twice went for an hour the first time, then second time ran it over to my friends place (approximately 15 min total run time). Then went to go for a ride today and I made it about 400 yards before it started to sound weird, then another 100yards before it started to bog down with throttle applied, then stopped and won't fire again. Started first kick today as well. My thought is that its the condenser again as it sounded like it started to half fire again, so if not then what? if so then what would cause me to be going through condensers so quickly? cheers for any and all help.

Has anyone recently got a DEP silencer? I just noticed one listed at Sammy Miller products but they are "out of stock" I emailed DEP USA and asked as their website said "not available at this time" But I got no reply. I was curious whether they made their own or if it's a re-badged WES? It would be a DEPY2919.

Hi everyone, new to the forum and new to trials. I was hoping that someone could point me in the direction of a good place to source parts for my 1993 TYZ250. Looking around online doesn't seem to be much available. I was hoping to update the plastics, seat and decals to the 1996 model. Any pointers greatly appreciated! Cheers

Just wondering if anyone has fitted a top yoke from the Twinshock shop to a TY175? Looks like it moves the bars to be more central to the steering line. Did it (or would it?) make much difference to the steering? Mine tends to 'flop' into turns, and it would be nice if I could slow this down a touch. (Have 360mm Betor shocks fitted, standard forks and yokes, forks flush with top yoke as per TY Trials recommendation. Steering head bearings are a bit worn and notchy though).

Hello, Bought a ty250 as a running bike, saw video of it running ( i live far from where it came from), had it shipped and now i can't seem to get it running. I have kicked and kicked till my foot is bruised, have had it burp and fart a bit, won't start. Tried a bit of fuel directly in the plug hole which got it turn over 3 times but not catch and go. I've spoken with the seller he says he cleaned the carb as well as put new points and condenser on prior to the video. He said he had heard of the condenser packing it in on installation which doesn't make sense as he got it to run. I'm out of ideas, anyone have any insight. PS not sure how much difference this wi…
