Goudrons and Charlyxty were kind enough to offer assistance with my electrical questions for my recent TY80 purchase. I stripped the side cases off the motor tonight and now have more engine related questions I am hoping someone can answer: 1: Can the gear shift shaft be replaced without splitting the cases? it looks like it just pulls right through from the clutch side (I hope so, the previous owner sheared the splnes off the end of the shaft with vise grips) 2: when I pulled the clutch case I noticed that one of the basket side pieces is snapped off. I will look for a replacement but if Ican;t get one will it still work okay? when I bought the bike the engine was out …

Hi all, I was looking at a gas tank from a 1976 TY175, and to my semi-trained eye (I do a little bodywork, as a hobby) and from a picture, only, this tank looks to have been repainted (see attached pic). I say that because, unless it's just a digital artifact, it looks like some non-factory masking was done around the filler hole, as the white is visible, unevenly, around the ring of orange paint. And the orange, itself, appears stunningly-brand new, for a 40 y.o. bike. (It is said to have been from a very low miles bike.) Also, not being familiar with the TY color palette, I can't tell if this is supposed to be an orange tank, with cream, or orange with …

Does anyone know if these can be replaced by just removing the outer casings and flywheel/stator etc. Cheers

Trying to source these without paying $2.50/ea from the dealer. Anybody know what size they are? The ones on my bike are all squished or I'd just measure mine.

I recently put on a slightly larger tire on the rear of my 1974 ty250 and noticed the tire rubbing on the chain gard. After looking closely it appeared the rear sprocket was out board of the engine sprocket ( not aligned). Also the tire is not centered with the forks. I have two ty 250s the other is the same so I don't think it is damaged. I built a couple bushings to move the rear wheel to the right now it is aligned with the engine sprocket and centered in the forks. I haven't had a chance to give it a good test ride as it has not stopped snowing the last three months. So I'm curious if any have noticed this?

So, last weekend I picked up a TY175 which only needs a little fettling - one item on the list is the noisy exhaust I'm getting a used one-piece silencer, which will get re-packed before it goes on, but I'd like to make the bike as quiet as possible - is there anything extra I can do that would help? Can I add a small extra silencer to the end or anything like that without messing up the performance?

Hi guys, probably been asked 100 times before, but having problems getting my TY175 started and staying running. Bought it to fix up and guy said it ran before being left on the shed for a while! Will start with "start ya *******" down the bore or neat petrol), but wont keep running! sometimes get 2 turns round the garden before it blurs out! Its driving me mental! Hi guys, just a thought of mine. I noticed a little gearbox oil weeping from the clutch push rod seal, but before I noticed it was coming from there my first thought was perhaps the new crank seal I fitted was actually leaking, while rotating the flywheel to look inside I felt a little movement on the mains. Since then and up till now I've been planning my rebuild, after finding the bearings specs I was trolling through bearing suppliers, which led me onto finding out what a C3 bearing is! I was out riding a couple of months ago and she just went dead. Working on it as I get time I replaced the points and condenser.Still nothing. So next I remove all but the primary coil and rewire with all new and still nothing.Tried a HT coil that I had from a Suzuki and still dead. So yesterday I put the old lighting coil in place of the primary coil and bingo,we have spark! I still have to get it out to see how it runs,but I thought it might be of help for a cheaper fix if it has not already been posted. Cheers and merry christmas to all.

I am contemplating a few extra sorties on the TY 250 this year , but after many years the bike could do with a rebore. I recently rode a newly restored 434 and the engine was sooo sweet and the the guy told me as well as a rebuild he had nikaseled the Barrel. He had in fact done the same with the clutch. I just wondered if I could tap into some knowledge as to whether this is worth it, I would certainly like to replicate the end product of the bike I rode, it really was fantastic, and although it was only ridden in the carpark straight away I could feel the difference from mine having just spent two days on it . Hi, I am in the process of rebuilding a little TY for my son, I got it in a sorry state, the person I got it from told me it was an 80 so that's what Ive been going on. I've had the frame, swing arm etc shotblasted and now it's all repainted. I was cleaning the engine getting it ready for painting when I found "553" with "49cc" stamped underneath the fins on the cylinder. When I put in the frame number on the Internet it tells me she's a 1975 TY80. Is the 49cc stamp telling me it's a Ty50 or does the 49cc relate to something else. Thanks for any help.

I have a standard TY175 which has been lying around the garage for some time unused as I also have a scorpa 250 and because the TY is a little bit on the small side. I was thinking about selling the TY however I started her up and had a little pootle about and realised that I love that little bike and for the couple hundred pounds it cost me its great just to have about. So, my question is has anyone modified a TY175 to make it a bit more comfortable to ride, lower foot pegs, longer swing arm, don't really want to spend the money but what difference do the majesty frames make etc? I am looking for a 2mm oversize piston for a Ty175. I assume it will have to be aftermarket, does anyone know of a brand that lasts as it will be on its last bore and the porting is good. The new 1.5mm that was in when I bought the cylinder has lasted about 2 trials before starting to rattle hence the question and I cannot identify the brand

I'm sure this has been discussed before, but... What's the deal with the frankenstein yamaha that #2 is riding in Japan? It's clearly a factory bike (or at least a factory sponsored bike), but obviously they don't sell whatever this is in the west (and I suspect not in Japan either, but not sure). Why does Yamaha want to run a one-off bike?

Hi I've just acquired a project to rebuild for my son. It's a loaner so I'm not looking to restore it to prestige level. Right now I'm just trying to get a spark out of it before I take the engine block/carb off to clean that all up. I've been looking for a manual for it and the Haynes manual has a picture of a Suzuki on the front! I found a download site in Australia but the manual was in French. I really don't want to be taking the flywheel etc off without some guidance so was wondering if anyone could point me in the direction of a UK manual. Thanks Tim

Hi guys & Gods, I used my '85 mono to set a lap time for a friends Vintage Enduro the other week and long before I'd done the 15 miles I was having terrible gear change problems: sometimes false neutrals, other times it wouldn't come out of gear changing up or down. My impression was that it was getting too hot (ie. didn't like the non-stop use). The oil - as always Motul 10/30 Semi-Synth - was brand new two days prior. The clutch has since been stripped, measured and pronounced "as-new". Anyone got any ideas or had similar trouble. Thanks AL p.s. my legs are too old for 15miles of continuous standing ....
