I have been riding my Greeves Scottish TAS for a year now with the Villiers S22 carb and have changed over to a Mikuni VM28 as the Villiers was p____g fuel everywhere and it's never been that great due perhaps to wear or lack of use - I've only got to leave the bike a couple of weeks and something playes up like the clutch dragging or the carb running weak. Can someone please advise on the needle jet size for the Mikuni as this new carb is causing severe detonation in the midrange - this is nothing to do with the ignition setting as the bike is excellent through trials sections and off the bottom end, it's just that I ride a lot on the road and need to get this sorted bef…

Looking to pick the brains of 2 stroke guru's. Have a Villiers 250 fitted with a Marcel barrel (trials) and am having carb problems. The engine seems to run rich, and to get a 'normal' plug reading, and no oil in the exhaust, it needs a 100/110 main jet. With that fitted, the needle in the top ring, and a No4 slide fitted the engine runs ok at all settings above 1/8th open, ie just a little rich looking at the plug (GKN BP5ES) and 2 stroking as it should. Now the difficult bit! With a 25 idle jet I can get it to tick-over, but at low throttle openings, ie less than1'8th, the engine 4 strokes. If I open out the air screw to where it will 2 stroke, it will not tick over, ex…

Theres a chance that i may be in the position to relocate down to the South Hams area around Totnes Devon, that should cheer up a LOT of people here in the East Midlands Centre and i was just wondering what the Trials scene is like down there. I only ride Pre65 and Twinshocks so am really only concerned about the amount and frequency of events and how far what sort of Trials type of terrain etc. Coming from Derbyshire i have been spoilt all my riding life as most events are within an hours drive approx 30 miles and i could ride every weekend if i wanted but choose just to ride twice a month. So if anybody lives down there in Devon, Cornwall and Somerset who could …

The Strtaford-Upon-Avon Club are running a round of the Sammy Miller Classic Bike series on Sunday 23rd May starting at Downs Farm near Bourton on the Hill. Current entries, as follows: 1 Pre unit rigid = 3 2 Pre unit springer = 7 3 2 stroke = 5 4 Unit 4 stroke = 7 5 Pre unit sidecar = 5 6 Unit sidecar = 2 7 Twinshock sidecar = 1 8 Twinshock = 24 9 Trail bikes = 5 10 Easy route-all classes non champoinship = 23 Overall total = 82. The SCUJ trial (and the Sammy Miller series) was I believe created for British bikes and sidecars competing on sensible sections. If the trial was limited to this, there would be just 29 entries at present instead of 82. Entry…

Hello, I have a Wassell trials bike with a Sachs 1251/5A in it. I have heard of and would like to put a BSA motor in it. I'm a two stroke guy and don't know anything about BSA single 4 strokes. What type / model / size should I be looking for? This bike will be 100% Trials. Any help and advice will be appreciated. If anyone has a different or better idea on a 4 stroke motor for this frame, please chime in. Thanks
