Hi I am new to the forum but have been reading the posts while searching for a sherpa to get myself acquainted with the bikes I have acquired a 1973 sherpa 350, It ticks over and starts fine andI can cruise around the garden on ticover or a little throttle but when I try to give it a 'blast' it just dies I have had the fuel tap out, all ok and the carb apart all looks ok, the pilot jet needing cleaning but I put it back tiogether and the problem is the same. If i tickle the carb with the plunger and then gas it it goes fine so it looks like fuel starvation but i dont knoe where to go next One thing when I unblocked the pilot jet i tried to blow into the hole it came ou…

Hi there I am new to trials and I'm going to build a bantam to compete with.One of the problems I have encountered is lack of information about the humble bantam.My main problem is what forks to use,I want to run it in Pre 65's in Scotland(not the 2 day) but would like to know if I could use trail bike forks and yokes(XL,TS) or does it have to be std. or period. cheers Brian

With the talk on the forum of the Drayton bantam and that McLaren Suzuki all invoked memories of Trials here in the East Midlands Centre all those years ago. I have fond memories of John Orme and his BSA Bantam which was oh so trick especially considering the year was 1970. Problem is with memories the pictures arent so good so i was wondering if anybody else remembered the man or the bike too? Also remember the bike had a sister. To help with a machine eligiblity issue can anyone state, with confidence, when the Amal Concentric MK1 and MK2 carburettors were first introduced.

Can anyone please gve me advice about whether to use a clutch with an AMC gearbox without a cush drive, ie NEB. Is it a good idea, will using a clutch without a cush knacker the gearbox? Thanks

Just wondering how many HJH bikes are still in use some 54 years after the Welsh company closed.

I heard a story at the weekend that the Nostalgia trial this year is being held on the weekend before the scramble,not sure if it is on saturday or sunday though.The normal has been trial saturday then scramble sunday.I like to ride in both but cannot afford to travel there on 2 separate weekends so would have to choose one or the other.I prefer to scramble so would have to miss the trial,though I enjoy it. Anyone heard anything about this?

HI ALL AFTER REBUILDING MY OSSA 350 TR80 GRIPPER AND AFTER COMPLETING 3 TRIALS I JUST CAN,T SEEM TO GET ANY GRIP AT ALL ON THE REAR .SPEC IS AS FOLLOWS NEW ROCK SHOCKS WITH 80 POUND SPRINGS ( LAID DOWN SHOCKS ) NEW REAR MICHELIN TYRE 5PSI ( HAVE TRIED VARIOUS PRESSURES ) IAM 6,3 AND 17ST AND RIDE EXPERT ROUTE IAM WATCHING OTHERS DO SLIPPY BITS AND I SIT THERE PADDLING IT IS BRILLIANT IN THE DRY JUST NOT WET ANY IDEAS ? Have been running one of the newer Michelin tube type tyres I think they are crossply construction Been out three times and 2 Nip punctures so not a good ratio Running 6 psi and its on a B40 I also have the same tyre on a Tlr 250 and it seems ok Could it be a combination of heavy(ish)bike and softer sidewalls? Anyone else have the same probs? Marty D

Sorry if its been done to death before,but recently I've been reading books like 20 years of Twinshock Trials. Looking at some of the British lightweight bikes from the era of SHM ruling with his Bultaco,it made me realise that companies like Greeves,Sprite,James and Dot were pretty much all up there with it.In another book,the British two stroke trials bikes one,it says more than once about supplies of Villiers engines drying up.Cotton for instance used the 170cc Minerelli engine,but it seems it was not very popular - compared to the Villiers. So what happened to Villiers engines ? I guess they were owned by NVT,were they just dropped as a decision made by the parent co…

I didn't ride the last two SM rounds last weekend (due to work commitments), but i here on the (non TC) grapevine about possible changes to machine eligibility for next year ? Just wondering if this is fact or fiction, or if there are any other changes planned ?

Hi, I have just acquired a 125cc Puch Dalesman Trials bike in need of more than a little TLC. It's been years since I was involved with trials and I've lost touch with where to get parts etc. Obviously an old bike like this presents even more of a challenge, but if anyone has any information, pictures, manuals etc that I could purchase, copy, borrow I would be really grateful. Also if there are business that specialize in this bike or similar I'd be happy to hear about them. Thanks! Ian

Having trouble deciding which class to ride for 2010 do i ride the bog standard HT5 in the the pre unit springer class on the easy route or the slightly more modified HT5 in the British replicas on the hard route. Is there any point riding the bigger bikes at all? or maybe they should have another Unit and Pre unit british replica class on the hard route?

I wonder if anyone can help me with some information. I am writing an article for the owners club magazine for a Pre'65 trials bike I inherited from my late father. I remember he took it to an off-road show at Alton Towers in the early 1980's and I think won the concours award for pre-65 trials bikes. I am interested if anyone can confirm the year, the show must have been before May 1985 because I rode it in the Pre'65 Scottish, after which it was no longer concours condition. Thanks in advance.

Sitting here on another airport Monday wonder what are chances of getting a twinshock entry for the Manx 2 day next year ? The Wye Valley Trevor Hunt Trophy trial is probably the best apart from the pre65 Scottish and the Manx 2 day and I can't enter the former. Anyone know when the regs are out ? And what's the odds of getting an entry ? There's a few tw-shock riders thinking of entering and aware that numbers are limited.
