I have an Amal carb on my 73 Ossa Explorer. There is only one screw on the carb that adjusts air/fuel. My question is: since the screw is on the jug side of the carburetor, doesn't that make it a fuel screw? I always thought if a screw is on the aircleaner side of the carb, that made it the air screw. But there is no screw on that side of this carb. I have received different advice on this issue at events. If I back off on this screw, am I making it leaner or richer? And, what is a good method for adjusting these old carbs, (other than discarding them). Thanks

Hi, I broke the exhaust bracket off the frame of my Fantic 200 (early model, rear kick start) and need to weld it back on. I tried several places locally, but no-one seems to have gas welding kit anymore so electric welding(mig or tig) seems the only option. I'm concerned about zapping the generator or electronics on my bike. Is it enough to disconnect the wiring, or do I need to remove everything to be on the safe side (I hope not, as I don't have a flywheel puller) Your advice please gents.

12th & 13th sept. Can anybody who just rode the Nostalgia tell me how the Standard & Easy routes in the Cumberland compare with the Easy & Hard routes of Saturdays trial ? Also how big is the lap, and are they more straight forward sections ? Thanks Ross

I know there are frames, hubs, forks etc being made or available out there, but don't know where to start looking. Can any of you point me in the right direction for the components?? As many of you will know, we had to cancel the Retro65 2 day trial due to be held near Welshpool a few weeks ago. 60 entries were needed to make running the event financially viable and at the closing date we had only received 26. On the same weekend the Scarborough club ran a two day, Westmoreland club held a round of the Sammy Miller series and then there was the Euro Trial in Gloucestershire. Are there too many events or should we have followed the trend and opened the trial to Twin Shocks, Air cooled Mono's, Trail bikes etc. and had two routes instead of trying to run a genuine classic bike trial with a single route?

Just bought a Bsa b40 with the gb engine Can anyone help with the correct gearing Also not sure if the main jet is right carb is a Amal 626 running a 160 main Recomended sparkplug? I am sure there will bemore Marty D

Thanks for all the help with the kickstart trouble i had. The bike is a converted bsa bantam d7 I now have a new problem that has just started this week. After changing the piston rings i have been riding the bike quite a bit and loving it but... the bike now will run/tick over fine and all seems to be good for the first approx half hour of riding then all of a sudden the bike will just die, almost like it has run out of petrol, except that it hasn't. this started a few days ago. normally with the bike warm it will kickstart no problem however once the bike has died like i mentioned above it wont kickstart for a few hours until it has cooled down again. Does anyone know if the Villiers 33a 250cc cylinder head works okay for trials?. The plug thread is longer than the 32a from what I can tell and the squish band gives higher compression.

I have a yamaha ty175 and the clutch lever has to be let almost right out before it engages. I have tightened the adjuster on the handlebar in as far as it will go and it still is to far out to be able to control it properly when riding. Is there anyway of adjusting it more maybe on the engine end so that it engages a few centimetres from the handlebar. Thanks
