Hi all When my '99 montesa is hot, at about a quarter on turn on the twist grip the engine starts running like its 'missing a beat'. As I said it only does this at a quarter turn on the twist grip any higher or lower it runs fine. What is wrong with it? Thanks in advance danny

Right have said my stator might be going so i have to take off the left hand side cover off the engine. But my question is can i brake the seal ( you know the metal cover and the a seal that goes all the way round and the the engine block). So if i take the cover off can i re-use it, will i be ok if i put the cover back on with the same seal, or will i have to get a new seal. Gavin

right here is my list 1- I have just cleaned out the airbox and carb to make sure there is no dirt of water about. When i went to start the bike i was riding along and if keeped jumping (every time it ticked over). Also i would not rev out right felt like it was chocking and would not chande gear very well. 2-When the bike is in nutrual when you try to push it is very hard like i fells like it is in gear. But when you pull is backwards it is easy. (why is this). Gavin

can you just tape up the vent holes in the seat or are they requires for air intake? - i have fine mesh on them but it just gets clogged up with muck, figured i'd be just as well blocking them off and protecting the intake from crud a bit

I was just looking at Trials source.com If you look at their bike model info stuff, it says that the 2004 Montesa is DEFINATELY the last 2 stroke that they will make. Is it true??...Of course it was sure there is a four stroke imminent...but I thought they might continue making the 2 stroke alongside for a while??

Any idea what the extra carb needle that came with the bike is for and when it should be used? I looked all over the owners manual and it has no mention. This is on an 04 Montesa. Thanks, Bill.

Does anyone out there have any idea how i could smooth out the low down power of my trusty mont. It's a 99 with a 2002 carb on it (cos the 99 carb was a bit of a joke). At the moment the carb is as it came out of the box, and the bike runs a lot better than it did with the old carb. I had a shot of a 2003 model and it was sooo much smoother, power delivery wise than mine. I don't expect miracles, but i was wondering if i could do anything with what i've got, carb wise to improve matters (other than buy a 2003). . Any ideas anyone??

Hi all, does anyone know how long the engine should run for before the radiator fan kicks in. I suspect that mine isn't working. Or is there an easy way of checking that the thermostat is working 'without tearing the bike to bits i.e bridging wires etc. Thanks in advance.

Does anyone know if the 2003's footrests were a little lower and more rearward than previous models, or was that just a one-off mod. on Dougies bike?. I'm sure I remember somebody selling aftermarket footrest hangers modded to give that position, any ideas?.

I'am the proud owner of a barely used 03 Montesa. Would like to know what gaurds you may have found to be worth the money? I see there is long fork gaurds and short fork gaurds, aluminum ones and carbonfiber. Also, case covers, head pipe protectors and so on. The gaurd for a thrown chain looks like money well spent. Please list any more Ideas and also dealers who carry these Items and stock parts. This machine is scratchless, I'am really having a hard time wanting to ride it, I'am in the (stare at it stage of ownership). Sam

Has anybody else ever encountered this problem on Montesa? It's a 2001. I bought it used and it works fine as long as you don't tighten up the clutch cover screws all the way. (specifically the one in the back center) I suspect it has a clutch cover which is out of line with the pilot hole in the center cases. It has no obvious distortion, but it still binds. I have eliminated end play as an issue, by removing the inner shim (between the inside end of the kicker shaft and the case) Now get this part, I have attempted to free it up by 'tapping' on it with a small hammer. (ahem) The result was a tikling sound under the bike, while it was laying on it's side, clutch side up…
