Montesa

  1. Started by netley,

Just drained this out of my Cota 349 as mentioned in a previous post. Should I pull the clutch cover off or just wash it out, refill and see? Cheers.

I am after an engine case cover for the gear lever side, ignition cover for my 4rt. I’m not a fan of the trick bits ones. Has anyone got a pic of an alternative on the bike? I’ve found an apricot one but can’t work out what bits it protects from the off the bike pic. thanks Dave

Anyone here nows what Montesa changed on the 4ride ? 2016 was with euro3 homologation, 2018 euro4 There is on the 18 modell the bashplate and the sprocket protection as on the trials bike, also the kick starter is now the short one... Any changes on gearbox, fuel injection or else ? Someone here has ridden both bikes ? At the moment, both versions are still avaliable at some dealers here in germany, the 2016 is a little bit cheaper....

Hi all. Losing my mind here... the points on my cota 247 don't seem to have any effect unless I disconnect the two wires screwed to them. With these wires.. black and condenser.. removed I can check moment of opening with a multimeter beep. Replacing the wires and I get no break in the beep as the points open!! Is this right? Doesn't seem to make sense. I am running the black to the coil/condenser under the tank and the pale pink to earth. Green and yellow I discard as they are lights etc and not required for trials. Points are new... coils not shorting out... correct resistance in generator coils.....what have I misunderstood??? This is a rebuild of a box of bits. …

Has anyone been successful in getting a new 300RR insured for the road? The current insurance company I'm using for my 2015 260 doesn't recognise the 300, and so far neither do any of the others I've tried. Cheers

  9. I was practicing on the above bike (which is fairly new to me) at the weekend. When going down long hills with the clutch out and brakes on, the rear wheel 'judders' as in jumps up and down during the decent. On closer inspection, when I compress the rear suspension and release it, there is no rebound damping. It clonks as it hits the top stop. This bike is in good mechanical condition with little or no free play in the swing arm or rear suspension. I'm assuming I can adjust the rear shock to stop this. What are the guidelines for adjusting the spring tension and dampening and rebound settings on my bike? I weigh 'just over' 100Kg (with my clothes on).…

Hello all, I have found my dads Montesa Cota 349 1980 in his garage. The bike itself appears in (relatively) good condition. I don’t think it has been ridden (or started) for 20+ years. I would like to get this bike running again & start riding it at local events. I have pretty much zero technical knowledge, I am willing to learn & give it a go and watch YouTube videos to learn etc.. The reason I haven’t tried to start the bike is I am worried about the petrol and oil in the tank? What would I need to change or replace on a bike that old/hasn’t been ridden for 20+ years - things that would need to be changed regardless is what I am on a…

  13. Hi, I have a montesa 247 frame with a 248 engine. The problem I have is the single down tube 247 frame isn’t an easy match for the 248 engine exhaust port as this engine would have gone in a twin down tube frame. Does anyone know if a 247 barrel and head will fit the 248 engine?

  14. Hi all, Just picked up on non-running Cota 247 (1975-ish), and would like to get it going. It has decent compression, good spark (at least outside the cylinder on the two plugs I tried), and it is getting fuel. I even tried a shot of ether starting fluid in the carby and cylinder, but it won't even pop...nothing at all. Any ideas on what to check?

Can someone please tell me how you tell whether a "new 300RR" is a 2017 model or a 2018 model (not year of manufacture as 2018 bikes will be assembled in late 2017, just as all the manufacturers do) - what do you look for on the frame number to distinguish between the years?? I have been looking at some ebay ads for new Montesa 300RRs and there are some pretty dubious sales descriptions out there... for example (no names or finger pointing...): There are two internet adverts saying "New model Montesa 300RR 2018" and then in the sub-text it one says (under the year of manufacture) that it is 2017 and the other 2018. When you look at accompanying pictures the two …

hello everyone, I repainted my Cota 247 tank recently with fairly expensive automotive paint and 2k Clear coat but after around a few days of a little gas sitting in the tank i started seeing bubbles forming on the top of the tank. I used a very fine needle to pop one and gas secreted from it. I dumped all the gasoline out and rinsed the tank with near boiling water and dish soap to absorb the oil and gas to stop the deterioration further. Am I okay to seal with caswell now? or is this just going to get worse and worse? I really don’t want to paint it again. thanks!
