  1. I read that Gordon Brown is going on holiday to the Lake District as I am this year.................I won't be backwards in coming forward if I meet him on the streets or on Windermere. Grrrrrr, how I hate that man! Ian.
  2. I lurk...............and sometimes I hit and then sink back into the night. Ian.
  3. A Girl playing same song..............
  4. Ahh yes, I like some good guitar.................and here's some especially good guitar...... 2:20 onwards he starts pushing it. And here's the same live..... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bdM00IbLyro Ian.
  5. GORDON BROWN was visiting a Buckie primary school and he visited one of the classes. They were in the middle of a discussion related to words and their meanings. The teacher asked Mr. Brown if he would like to lead the discussion on the word 'tragedy'. So the illustrious leader asked the class for an example of a 'tragedy'. A little boy stood up and offered: 'If ma best freen, wha lives on a fairm, is playin' in the field an' a tractor rins ower him and kills him, that wid be a 'tragedy.' ' 'No', said Gordon - 'that would be an accident.' A little girl raised her hand: 'If a skale bus kerryin' fufty children drove ower a cliff, killing a'b'dy inside, that wid be a tragedy' 'I'm afraid not', explained Gordon - 'that's what we would call a 'great loss'' The room went silent. No other children volunteered. Gordon searched the room. 'Isn't there someone here who can give me an example of a tragedy?' Finally, at the back of the room, wee Johnny raised his hand... In a quiet voice he said: 'If a plane kerryin' you and Mr. Darlin' wis struck by a 'freendly fire' missile & blawn tae smithereens, that wid be a tragedy.' 'Fantastic!' exclaimed Gordon. 'That's right. And can you tell me why that would be a tragedy?' 'Weel,' says wee Johnny 'it his tae be a tragedy, because it certainly widnae be a great loss..... and it probably widnae be a f****** accident either!
  6. Ripoff Britain = NO CHANCE!..............Anyways, nobody in the UK stocks them. And not only that, the company that makes them (www.headplay.com) won't ship to UK.......I had to get a pal in Houston to buy them for me then ship to me. It confuses me that in these hard times companies aren't doing enough to get their products out to the masses. In this case it was a stupid reason......the company was actually willing to export to me but their ecommerce software (their online shop) wouldn't let me enter a UK delivery address despite them saying by email they would. So, the headline is "IT problem loses sales for company"...................NUTS! Ian.
  7. The rate of duty you pay is subject to the item and a category to which it falls.......and the guy on the day that decides where it falls. These categories are numerous and some are very similar. I bought some video goggles the other day from the USA and got them shipped over here. I got stung for something like 14% duty.....however, I wrote them back and told them they had made a mistake in catgorizing my goggles. I found another category at only 2.5% that mentioned the words "video screen, plastic housing".......... Job done. Ian.
  8. Hi, My google order says they are "shipped", but nothing received yet. I tried calling JA Events (number on the email receipt) and get some American guy recorded message saying I should call after 8am.....it's 9:30am here now! I also emailed them but no answer as yet. I had started to think maybe I had received them but lost them!..........till I found this thread. Frustrated! Ian.
  9. Yep!, I'm still alive! PS. Did you spot the piccy of me (looks like me anyway!) in the trials section of Ray's site........all I can say is i'm glad Fuji never farted! Ian.
  10. Hi all, Gotta say this is one of my fav photos of recent, it's the unusual angle/attitude the bike is taking on that makes it for me. The guys were kicking the back end round on the decent due to lack of room at the bottom.....not to mention it speeds things up given the 60s time constraint per section. Will have to rewind the tape and have a look but I think Pep Segales was standing around there at the time so probably his shot. Kudos to whoever took it anyway. Ian.
  11. Yes, it's basically a rip-off........HDMI is digital data and doesn't suffer the same degrade that analog signals get traveling along cables. The only time you "might" need an expensive HDMI cable is when trying to run HDMI an extra long distance, like tens of metres. Cheap cables can, but not always, have too high an inherent capacitance and affect the digital signals. However, the ironic thing is that, sometimes, cheaper cables are built with less shielding etc and can have less capacitance and therefore work better over longer cables runs. What you will also get with an expensive cable is a specification......i.e. the materials it's made from, the capacitance per metre etc etc. But who cares!.....if the cheap cable works you'll notice absolutely no difference with an expensive one. Knowing the numbers don't make for a better picture. You are also paying for the name for the likes of Belkin. Grrrrr........Rip-off Britain! I'm off to complain to Curry's. Will let you know how I get on. Ian.

    Ghosts?

Hi, A pal of mine has 7 brothers/sisters, youngest is 40+ now.........and through the years I got to meet all of them. The subject of ghosts came up a few times with at least 3 of them and quite separately (i.e. at different times). When the 1st told me of their childhood family antics with ghosts/poltergeists I laughed it off....................but when some months later the 2nd told me the same stories and more........and then the 3rd.............you get the picture, I was surprised. Also, they were never eager to relate the stories to me, it was all just a matter of fact and as if everyone experiences these things. Couple of quick stories from them, all when the 8 kids were aged 5 to 15. The family home out in the country:- 1. Most of the family all sat watching Tv.......ornament on mantle above fire slides from one side to another. 2. Some of the kids playing in make shift car garage.......could hear sound of horses hoof's, happened a few times............later on the father is told that years ago horses were kept in that "garage". 3. House was long and narrow with long corridor down one side, bedroom on the other in a row. Whilst in the house quite often would see dark figure of person outside the window....kids would run down corridor and open door of next bedroom and see person pass that window......and so on down about 4 bedrooms......then outside where they would run round back of house and......nobody there. 4. Three of the boys shared a bedroom...........sometimes in the dark one of the boys would always complain one of the other boys was sitting on his legs. Lights on, other boys tucked up in their own beds. As the family got to know their neighbours they were told that the local community were somewhat surprised somebody had moved into the suspected haunted..............old monastry cottage. Ian.
  13. Hmmmmm, I'm split about 50:50 on this one, but I guess push comes to shove I'd say Vanishing Point.......but that's maybe done to the scene with the naked female motorcycle rider.... Ian.
  14. Perce, did you manage to get your MTU settings checked/lowered? Ian.
  15. Perce, You need the latest firmware in order to be able to change the MTU setting. There's info/screenshot here for your model, inclucing a link to the firmware download:- http://www.adslthailand.com/forum/viewtopi...=14&t=57976 If you are getting line drops then that's something other than MTU problems me thinks......you've either got a bad modem, bad line or your ISP is at fault (but I doubt it). However, my advice is to get stuck in and get the MTU issue sorted first. PS.Write down all your settings before you upgrade the firmware. If all else fails then buy a cheap modem/router from PC World.......I got a LinkSys wireless router/modem from them and it's rock solid. Ian.
  16. Perce, My guess your problem is the MTU setting of your router & PC.............it's too high thus causing some sites to fail. Common symptoms are the web will fail randomly or completely, yet email, ping, tracert & FTP are all ok I bet. I've been through exactly the same problems when regrading DSL accounts within Nildram. Set it to something like 1430. It's probably set to around 1500. If that doesn't work then try ever decreasing numbers. Simply log into the router to change the MTU setting there, but you'll need an app called DR.TCP to change the setting of your PC(windows) if you don't want to hack the registry manually. Important:- Make the PC setting the same as the router. Some more info here on DR.TCP:- http://help.expedient.com/broadband/mtu.shtml Ian.

  22. Hi all, Pals '04 Sherco middle box caught fire......enough heat that the seat started to melt, as did the middle box cover....in fact it dissappeared in a pile of melted plastic. Anyways, apart from soaking in petrol for a week (not very effective me thinks), is there anything that we can use to properly remove all the old tar/gunk/grundge from the middle box. At
