  2. I'm selling a MPA Fantic Helmet on ebay UK, If anybody's interested........12 hours to go. Item number is 2477271912 on www.ebay.co.uk
  3. Yesterday I managed to road register my Majesty 175 Yamaha Twinshock. It's a 1982 model and when I bought it last year, it was unregistered. This year I decided to embark on getting it done on an 'age related' UK 'X' plate. It has been pretty simple really............ Firstly I spoke to John Shirt jnr @ Gas Gas UK, whose father created the Godden framed Majesty (which my model is) and he arranged for his father to send me a 'dating certificate' for the bike from their records, confirming the year of manufacture as Jan 1982. This was a great help. Next .........I did a bit of work to get it to MOT standard on the brakes(bearings were ok and so were forks/shocks) and finally fit an original TY speedo to fork leg (easy to find on ebay or autojumbles) together with an electric bicycle horn. Bike sailed through the 'daytime' MOT So I gathered all the documents ( MOT,Dating Certificate,Bill of Sale,Insurance Docs, my ID) down to local DVLA office - queue for an hour.......fill in a couple of forms, pay for the tax and 1st registration fee (

I wanted to adjust the tickover on my bike...........ie turn it up a bit. However after turning the throttle stop screw (tickover adjust as I saw it) I found that no amount of twiddling will turn it up............either all the way in/out.........in the middle. Now it's worse and will not tickover on idle.................HELP Are these Dell Orto's more finicky than a Jap carb.............all previous experience is on Keihin/Mikuni on Jap bikes and they seem to do what it says in the manual..............however the Dell Orto doesn't ??? JB
  5. I was more worried about chain coming off and clouting engine cases...........but if it's not a problem............from other's experience.........that'll do for me. JB
  6. Looking around the 315............ The front sprocket area looks vulnerable...............if the chain derails......bingo......... The clutch slave cylinder gets smashed.............along with generator cover and crankcase potentially. Is there any aftermarket protection (like a Mono TY chain saver) or does it never happen...............has anybody had it happen to them?? JB
  7. Just bought some last week from BVM Moto for
  8. What's Birkett's Beamish like...............looked nic in T&MX this week.........spill the beans..... JB
  9. Some debate on another thread. BVM said to run mine in on Castrol TTS @ 50:1 then change to 66:1 to run from then on................but never run the bike......... as the Montesa manual states with Elf @ 80:1 (too lean). However the Castrol TTS bottle says to mix @ 50:1 only Confused.......?? Think I'm going to run Castrol TTS @ 50:1 all the time................ Anybody shed some reliable light on the said subject............for the 315? TIA JB
  10. Try Craig Mawlam..........he has Majesty bits now.............on 01249 890990 JB

    What Model ?

This is my TY175 and it was registered in Nov 1981. That colour scheme ran from late 1980 to about 83/84 I think.............but basically all the bikes from 1975 - 83/84 were the same spec. The only major change (apart from colour schemes) from the early ones to the one in your pic.........was that the earlier bikes had DID silver anodised rims (better) and the later ones had bare polished alloy Tagasaki rims. Hope this helps. JB
  14. Prefix 525 was TY175 only.............all models and 451 is TY80
  15. Montesa 315R On my new bike...........a couple of questions.......??? a) Do I change it after 'running in' for the 1st time.........OR after 3 rides as the comprehensive HRC manual suggests...........I would prefer to change after initial running in..........just to be on safe side... b)Elf HTX 740 is recommended in manual and dealer... BVM............recommended it as the correct oil and the best/only oil to avoid potential 'clutch drag' c) Any other oil that's just as good...........(because it's bloody expensive for tansmission oil @
  16. Buy a Van.............
  17. After the talk on here.............I went yesterday and bought a small clear one.............so to start off from day 1, on a new bike (only picked bike up Saturday). Like Charlie says............it is possible..............but it is a tight squeeze on a 315R...........but can be done...........with a bit of forward planning........ The tubes don't get pinched. On another note...............these modern Trials bikes are tight to work on.................removing the lighting kit and loom from the new 315R was a real performance................. John
  18. Now Genuine Yamaha ones are discontinued. However John Cane is having made up in plastic..........he tells me........ Should be available by summer 2004...........contact no. as previous post. John
  19. Thanks for the replies guys............... Well I had a look at a couple of 2001 models and decided to push the boat out and go for a new 2004 White model from BVM Stroud. It's one of the last available and everybody says that's it..........next will be 4 stroke. Are the white fenders stronger than the red ones..............they're certainly cheaper @
  20. I've been browsing here for about 6 months on TA and TC. I read the topics with interest.........learning about the pros and cons of the new Modern Mono's. I last competed and rode a trials bike about 15 years ago in late 80's when I had a TY250R Mono Yam,having competed as a schoolboy in 70's and early 80's on a TY175 Twinshock............ Having been Greenlaning for last 10 or so years on Honda XR's...........I've become disillusioned and fancy a return to UK Trials......... So I've been deliberating about a modern Mono and settled on a post 2000 Montesa Cota 315............. for the following reasons :- a) Honda involvement in the bike Proven Reliability and build quality c) They look gorgeous in red d) Residuals etc I know that there are tricker, lighter bikes but I'm only ever going to be a Clubman rider...........so it's more than good enough for me...... I've got chance of a 2001 one ..........that's never been trialled and only used as a playbike............so should be in good nick as long as mechanicals haven't suffered by a lax owner OR a 2002 bike that is OK........but has been trialled. Is there much difference between a 2002 and 2001. Other Montesa questions I have are :- 1. Is the airbox fairly watertight..........other bikes seem to suffer 2. Does the 2001 bike have revised steering geometry to go with Showa forks and better carb? 3. Any other mods I should look for ? 4. What protection should I get to Trial on for forks/frame etc. 5. Are the engines under normal use pretty bullet proof or do they need rings/pistons and rods every season............plus mains etc from time to time? In general is there anything else I need to know about the bike........... I have studied all the other bikes - Sherco/GasGas/Beta/Scorpa and mainly discounted them for me on general advice from other riders/dealers ..... Thanks for your help, John
  21. Are Sidi Trials boots any good..............?? As far as I can tell the Trial and Courier versions are exactly the same boots........except for the colour......... Best price around........in UK
  22. It was a Belgian guy............his name was on the attached photo board.........sorry can't remember his name. He bought it from Lejeune and is 'HIS' works bike from 1983. Somebody who was at show might remember the details. Don't think it was a restoration though............the bike looks as though it had been used...........but obviously by a very capable rider like Lejeune......therefore minimal 'wear & tear'.
  23. Had a rare opportunity last weekend at the Coventry Classic Dirt Show to look at Eddy LeJeune's Works Honda 360 that he won his World Championship on in the 80's. It was a fantastic opportunity to get close and have a good look at this bike, which is a work of art............with plenty of magnesium/titanium parts and factory sandcast engine cases. Plenty of RSC/HRC factory touches and one of many superb bikes at this great show. Here's some pics for those unlucky not to go to the show.
