  1. Cracking pics and cracking trial, surprised there wasn't a larger turnout.
  2. Mine has been difficult to start from cold lately too and I've put it down to a couple of things. 1. Cold weather 2. Bike has been parked up for the last 2 months only started once every 2-3 weeks. 3.Something to do with what they're putting in fuel these days. For me the answer has been to drain fuel from carb before trying to start it. You could also try leaning it to the left for a few seconds once you turn the fuel on. Hope that helps.
  3. I had this problem recently when replacing a fork seal. If you put the lower fork leg in a vice and pull on the stanchion as you're unwinding the bolt it should come out. Hope that helps.
  4. Thanks for the replies. By 'cold' I was really meaning after the bike had been parked up for a few days as it never had this problem during the cold spell last winter. I've been out today and dumped the fuel from carb and leaned it over as above and it started 2nd kick so fingers crossed. One more thing that may/may not be related to this is after a wet trial in burns or sometimes after washing I often find water behind the flywheel cover, I wasn't sure about the' drill a hole in cover' mod so have always just removed cover afterwards and started the bike to dry it out. If something had got rusty in the stator would this cause this kind of problem or would it be hard to start at all times not just from cold? cheers
  5. For the last month my bike has been getting hard to start from cold, once it does start it's fine for the rest of the day starting first time. I've tried a new spark plug and cleaned the carb but still the same. Went to kick it over today and it failed to start after a good 15 kicks , it almost fired by about the 8th kick but I think it was flooded by then. Gave it a few kicks with fuel off but still nothing. Anyone had similar or got any ideas? cheers
  6. I quite like this one I took at the British round at Kinlochleven with Wiggy looking through the back wheel
  7. cheers, I'll give Barry a call tomorrow and see if he can make it too.
  8. I'm supposed to be riding this trial, can you keep this thread updated to save me a wasted journey ? cheers
  9. Hi, After 4 years of Rev3 250's I recently bought a discounted new Sherco 290. I'm no expert but here are my findings so far. It;s true the Sherco doesn't have as much steering lock but I have a couple of practice sections with tight turns that I could only just manage on the Beta and I'm still managing them with the Sherco so it might not be as much of an issue as expected. The 290 does take a bit more holding onto but in the 3 trials I've done on it if I've found that I'm less tired on it than I would've been on the Beta. I might try a slow action throttle but the fast one isn't bad ,although it does get to a point where it suddenly delivers big power. To me it also seems much easier to move around the front and back wheel in sections. The Sherco also uses much less fuel (I wonder why) and sometimes I no longer bother topping up between laps now. I guess I lost faith in Beta's after my 07 needed mains/seals through no fault of my own at 16 months old and that along with a new Evo costing me almost
  10. No probs we usually split into pairs if there's a few of us to save time anyway. I didn't ride that well you've maybe got me mixed up with one of the other Lee's
  11. Hi Jamie, I don't think Barry's online much but I'll let him know and will pm you his email address. It was a good trial on Sunday wasn't it? only spoiled at the end by one thing ....midges. Lee
  12. quote (I would steer away from riding unlicensed trials as you would have no insurance cover if something goes wrong.) Good point, I just mentioned that club as they were fairly local to GJ.
  13. Welcome, why not join both Inverness and Bon Accord . There is also the Montrose club who run no-license trials once a month which can be found in the Calendar section on here. Maybe see you at a trial sometime. cheers Lee
  14. Hi Mike, had a feeling your bike would be in this thread Defo one of the nicest Betas I've seen.
  15. I had similar problems with my '03 bike a couple of weeks ago. It turned out to be the dreaded stator failure.
