  1. It sounds like a TLM. If you have a look on Japan Bike Spares website (http://www.japanbikespares.co.uk/hot_deals.php) they've got some various TLM models available. You can compare the price that you paid and pictures of your model. I've found Dave Silver Spares (www.davidsilverspares.co.uk) are quite helpful at finding parts for grey Hondas. Although it's much more helpful if you've got the Honda part number.

    Welding Forks

I've just noticed a crack in the disc mount on my TLM fork leg. I want to get it repaired before it actually breaks, but I wanted to know a bit more before I find someone to do the work. I'm a bit reluctant to take some unobtainium to a fabricator and have them destroy the fork leg because they don't know what they're welding. Can the fork leg be welded and if so what is it likely to be made from? I'm a bit flaky about having the forks welded, so would it be better to replace them with something like some 315 Showa forks? The big question about 315 forks is expense because would this mean a whole new front end, including yokes, wheel, brakes, etc?
  3. Thanks for the response with the colour name. I
  4. I had a knock that sounds similar to yours on my RTL; sever knock at tick over but went away at higher revs. I rebuilt the topend because I didn

    Tlr Tanks

I'd like the contact details as well, if possible.
  6. KuelMuel - I'd like to know the difference that removing that much weight made, 40% seems quite significant. Many thanks.
  7. I notice that the carbon bashplate is listed again on eBay. http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vie...A%3AIT&rd=1 Or search for item 230017024590. I'm not sure that I'd trust this bash plate over an aluminium. It looks like fibreglass with a carbonfibre weave rather than a proper carbonfibre composite. The description doesn't instil confidence that it's composite either.
  8. I like to ride classic trials because I don
  9. I've searched through the forum and found several references about lightening the flywheel weight in the TY mono, but no details on the original weight. I was going to lighten the flywheel by the suggested 8 to 10oz but am reluctant to go too wild and make it too light. There seems to be evidence that the flywheel has had some weight removed, but that could just as easily be the original machining. Therefore, I'd like an idea of the original flywheel weight of the Pinky mono before I begin to remove any meat. Can someone tell me the original weight of the Pinky flywheel? Many thanks David

    Rtl Gearing

I still ride my RTL in the ACU National Classic Series and a few other trials. I run that on 9/41 although it's not very quick on the road it is perfectly good on the sections (better than the rider). The Rental part numbers are 1410-520 for 41 teeth rear and 298-520 for 9 teeth front. The Talon part numbers are TR215 for 41 teeth rear and RG379 for 9 teeth front. However, I do find that the Talon front sprocket seems to be a loose fit on the shaft and chatters. BTW both Saunders and Lejeune 270 Rothmans RTLs had a single front down tube on the frame and silver wheel rims. I do have a couple of pictures but no scanner. Although the bike that Saunders is riding is a very nice look-alike.

    88 Rtl Decals

I have some 1990 RTL decals. They are a red Honda and wing with blue RTL. They don't say RTL250S, the rear fender decal said 250S, but I haven't got that decal. If you're interested I could scan, take photos to show the size and e-mail them to you. Let me know. David
  12. Just to give you a partial start. I once broke the front hub on my 1991 RTL and I eventually got a new one from Takumi Narita's shop in Japan. He said that HRC only made about 100 RTLs for the Japanese market and most of them are in Europe now. I would assume that he meant in 1991, because everyone I know seems to know someone who has a disc model in the garage somewhere :-)

    Rtl250 Overbore

You can defiantly rebore the RTL oversize, but there isn't much meat on the cylinder to seriously overbore and maintain reliability. In the early '90s when my RTL to try and make my RTL more competitive I contacted Derik Edmundson about the 270 modifications. He advised against serious overboring if I wanted longevity from the bike. If you're looking for a rebore I can recommend that you talk to Paul at PJ Engineering (www.prox.co.uk) who defiantly knows what he's talking about. At the end of last year you couldn't get pistons for the RTL (or TLR) so I had my cylinder relined and bored to the old piston. Since then I've had my Pentax TLM rebored in the same way and I know two other people who have had similar work done by Paul. At the Dave Roland, last weekend, several people commented how sweet the RTL sounded, especially at 17 years old. Just a pity that my chain didn't hold out because it was a long push to the Cat and Fiddle, but that
  14. I'll try to scrub the rocks as much a possible to give you some grip. Note to self; get entry in earlier next year
  15. Hi, I just phoned Off Road Only (01597 825224) and asked for some XR400 footrests. They are very helpful. David

    Tlrs On Ebay

I noticed that some of them were pulled off before the auction finished. Perhaps they weren't the 'cash cow in the shed' after all
  17. Hi, I fitted XR400 footrests directly onto my RTL without any modification to the frame, lugs or anything. They are wider and give much better grip on the boots. They were about
  18. If you were thinking about a rebore anyway, I would highly recommend PJ Engineering (www.prox.co.uk). They specialise in two strokes, motor cross, blah, blah, blah. As I knew that there were no pistons available for my RTL, and I didn't want to waste the engine on some a*** who said they could do a job then bugger the cylinder, I spent quite some time phoning round places before I arrived at PJ Engineering. Paul there seemed really knowledgeable and made an excellent job of sleeving the cylinder and honing the bore to the old piston. I've since recommended several other people and they've all been happy with the results and I'm taking my TLM260 engine there later this week. David
  19. I've noticed that in the ACU Classic trials that they are using the new Scorpa air-cooled 125s and this lead me to thinking. I noticed that the bore on the Montesa RT4 and XR250 are the same. Therefore, could I use an air-cooled RT4 with an XR250 head in the ACU classic series? The engineering isn't a problem and I haven

    Rtl Pads Wanted

May be this information is a bit late but this is the first time I've really browsed this forum. I made enquires in 2002 and found the only people with brake pads suitable for the RTL in their catalogue were SBS (Scandinavian Brakes Systems). The front pads measured 41.8 wide 50 high and 6.5 thick. Part number SBS664; to fit TLM-220 1989 and TLM-260 1990 fitted with High Friction Lining. The rear pads measured 75.1 long 40.2 high and 8.1 thick. Part number SBS629; to fit TLM-220 1989, AX-1-250 1990. CRM-250R 1990, TLM-260 with low friction lining, XLR250R Baja 1988-1990 with sintered lining. SBS were very helpful and said the pads were not imported into GB and would have to be a special order and may take a couple or more months to arrive and may not be cheap. I've got a 1991 TLM and 1989 RTL and they are the same pads. Honda part numbers for the 1989 RTL pads are Front pad A 45101-KR8-751 pad B 45106-KR8-750 Rear pad A 43105-NNO-701 pad B 43106-NNO-701 David Bathe
  21. Do you know of any practice areas anywhere int the south of England from Gloucestershire to Surrey? I'm looking for somewhere that legal as I want to pull apart the suspension and carburettor to make adjustments and see the impact. I don't really want some angry resident or event the police looking to confiscate my bike because I'm practicing illegally. Obviously, if I need to pay for the practice or join a local club, that wouldn't be a problem.
