Hi Hensteeth, If anything it is lighter than the original centre box. It is made from much lighter gauge stainless than the original. I've had it on the bike for at least the last 8 years and it's still almost as good as new. I got it made by a specialist exhaust company in Wales who made exhausts for Edmunson

Completely agree with John. When mine started to rot it became a relentless task of patching the exhaust until I took it to a fabricator to replace the bottom quarter of the exhaust. This only stopped the problem for a short time before I had to get one made. The person I took it to recommend stainless.

Mine is doing it almost every kick. When it's warm it seems much better but not good. There is a shaped washer on the shaft so when I split the engine I might try that the other way round. I've just ordered all the springs and washers, so when they arrive I'll split the engine.

I had the same thing happen on my 2006 4RT, but it wore through and bent over rather than broke. I ended up cutting down a long aluminium M6 cap head bolt then turning down the a threaded part to M4. It looks like it's designed for the job and can be replaced in the future. Last time I took off the tensioner I was suprised the wear that the spring was causing.

The kickstart on my 1989 RTL seems to not engage most of the time when kicking it over when cold. When the engine gets up to temperature it is fine. We split the engine a couple of weeks ago. The ratchet and pinion do seem a little warn, but excellent condition for 22 years of service. We replaced all the washers, springs and collars, but it seems to have made no difference. Does anyone have any ideas what might be going on?
