Bultaco Electronic Ignition And Carb.
Thanks , with it being stood for so long it may be the crank seals that have failed, or at least the flywheel one as it's not smoking. I'll start looking for an air leak. Any views on the plug gap for electronic ignition, or is it the same as standard?

Bultaco Electronic Ignition And Carb.
Hi guys, Just bought a 1979/80 198 A 250, it has electronic ignition. I've bought a new spark plug which I've been advised needs a gap of 0.4mm, but when I ordered it I didn't say it had electronic ignition. Is there a different gap setting for each. Also the bike runs and starts well on choke but dies when the choke is turned off. I've had the carb apart and found 150 main jet. 20 pilot jet. 3 slide. 2b1 needle 106 main jet. I've had carb cleaner through each and every orifice, because I thought it would have been a blocked pilot jet. The previous owner has owned it for years but hasn't really used it for a few years. I've drained and flushed the tank and got new fuel mix at 50:1 with synthetic oil. But it runs fine on choke and then dies. Am I missing something obvious ?????? Many thanks.

Bultaco Sherpa 250 1979 Oil Capacities.
Thanks Woody. What about the mix ratio. I have some normal GRO trial 2 stroke oil from a previous bike so I'll use that up, after draining the 747 mix. I agree looking at the spec sheet of the 747, it is overkill.

Bultaco Sherpa 250 1979 Oil Capacities.
Hi guys, Just taken delivery of a Bultaco Sherpa 250, 1979 , I need to know the type and quantities of oil required in the gearbox, clutch, forks and what type of two stroke oil. The previous owner used the new Castrol 747 2stroke oil, at 50:1, is that right . Many thanks. Dave.

Montesa 4Rt 260 Rear Spring.
Guys, I have a 2015 model with standard rear spring. I have read that there is an upgraded heavy duty spring for the heavier gentlemen, Iam 100 kilos or 16 stone, has anyone of similar frame changed to the heavier spring and is it worthwhile. Also has anyone had problems with the main rear mudguard decal beginning to peel/ lift at the lowest point , just on one side, it's only a small amount but it's only going to get worse. PS. It's washed by hand ,no power washers before someone asks!!

Hi Richard, How tall are the Renthals you used, the Bou ones and others appear to be only 4.5" rise unless I'm misreading it?? The Jitsie ones are 5.5". Dave.

Elf Htx Clutch And Gearbox Oil
Just changed the oil on my 2015 260 RT for the first time after running in. Decided to use GRO 75w as I had two litres in the garage and its superb as far as I'm concerned, have never tried the ELF.

Taller Bars On A 2015 260 Rt.
Just got a 2015 260 RT, couldn't believe they knocked £950 off them, anyway, I'm 6'2" tall and the bars seem a little low for me and I'm 55. Has anyway put any taller bars on or bar risers, just looking for opinions before making a purchase. Thanks.

Elf Htx Clutch And Gearbox Oil
Guys, do I understand that you tried the Elf first and then found the GRO slightly better, it's just I've 2 litres of GRO 75w gear oil left from my previous bike and would use it in my new 260 4 RT.

Is a 4RT suitable for a novice rider ?
Thanks for gearing advice , but I've pulled a load of ligaments in my foot the day before I collected the bike , now in pot for several weeks and a brand new 4RT sat in the garage.

Is a 4RT suitable for a novice rider ?
Hi Taff, I've just gone from numerous 2 strokes, to a 2015 standard 260 RT which I pick up tmrw. It says in the spec details that there is a 41 tooth rear fitted as standard which I assume is to lower the gearing. Let me know if your changes help. I've been riding on and off for the past couple of years after a 30 year lay off, I'm still way below average but now looking forward to less bike maintenance and more practice time , it's just such a fantastic sport . Dave. If anyone else can give advice on gearing please feel free to help.

Thanks esteve, Not had time to digest all the info, it is a real TLR from Japan not a Californian import or Reflex. I'll reply later in full. Many thanks. Dave.

Honda Tlr 200 Carb Question.
I have a 1984 TLR 200, the original carb was worn and people who seem know advised me to just replace it which I did. The replacement was a Cotton make which is a copy of the original. The problem I have is that the choke has no effect on the bike. The choke operation, ie the mechanical side of the lever etc work perfectly, but the bike starts without it and when the lever is on or off there is no effect on the engine, as you would expect, namely rise in revs etc. Also the bike tick over fluctuates, I've read all the posts on not over tightening the carb for distortion purposes, the O rings etc and have done all I can. Can I also add that I have stripped the top end, ground the valves fitted Honda valve seals and the bike runs really well apart from the above, any ideas folks.

Ideal Honda Tlr 200 Trials Gearing.
Thanks Rollox, Just put her back together, only rode on the driveway. It came with a nine front and a 44 rear, like you said 1 St gear seems really nice for tight stuff. Where did you get the anti judder kit, does it work?

4Rt Clutch
Hi Dave, Sorry about your step father. Read your other post about going to a 200 Beta, big change. I'm thinking of having a change, but the old Gasser to me to second place this weekend so I'm rethinking. Was going to have a year on a four stroke and was looking at the Beta or the 260 RT, but might give the Mont a wide birth if you say the clutch is naff, what's actually wrong with it. Is it just yours or a common problem on that bike, as I remember you ran it in, in text book fashion. The Beta 250 4T' s get good reviews. Dave.

Montesa 248 Coil Relocation.
Ok people, the wait is over. The 248 is running like a dream . The problem was two fold , firstly schoolboy error by myself, which is slightly embarrassing but I don't want anyone to make the same mistake. I put the clutch crankcase seal in the wrong way round, which seems a very minor issue but has dramatic effects. In my defence the old seals are slightly different to the new ones and I did put them in as I thought they should be but anyway that was one of the issues. The other being a badly worn Amal. Now just a case of getting her out for a long run to burn off all that oil she has drawn in. Once again can I thank all the people on Trials Central for the advice. Dave.
