  1. Thanks Richard. Bought the 4rt from Craig's. Didn't know about the Tong Saturday sessions. Dave.
  2. Hi Richard, How tall are the Renthals you used, the Bou ones and others appear to be only 4.5" rise unless I'm misreading it?? The Jitsie ones are 5.5". Dave.
  3. Thanks lads, I'll get some ordered. Ps. RHT whose Jeff ?????
  4. Just changed the oil on my 2015 260 RT for the first time after running in. Decided to use GRO 75w as I had two litres in the garage and its superb as far as I'm concerned, have never tried the ELF.
  5. Just got a 2015 260 RT, couldn't believe they knocked £950 off them, anyway, I'm 6'2" tall and the bars seem a little low for me and I'm 55. Has anyway put any taller bars on or bar risers, just looking for opinions before making a purchase. Thanks.
  6. Guys, do I understand that you tried the Elf first and then found the GRO slightly better, it's just I've 2 litres of GRO 75w gear oil left from my previous bike and would use it in my new 260 4 RT.
  7. Thanks for gearing advice , but I've pulled a load of ligaments in my foot the day before I collected the bike , now in pot for several weeks and a brand new 4RT sat in the garage.
  8. Hi Taff, I've just gone from numerous 2 strokes, to a 2015 standard 260 RT which I pick up tmrw. It says in the spec details that there is a 41 tooth rear fitted as standard which I assume is to lower the gearing. Let me know if your changes help. I've been riding on and off for the past couple of years after a 30 year lay off, I'm still way below average but now looking forward to less bike maintenance and more practice time , it's just such a fantastic sport . Dave. If anyone else can give advice on gearing please feel free to help.
  9. Thanks esteve, Not had time to digest all the info, it is a real TLR from Japan not a Californian import or Reflex. I'll reply later in full. Many thanks. Dave.
  10. I have a 1984 TLR 200, the original carb was worn and people who seem know advised me to just replace it which I did. The replacement was a Cotton make which is a copy of the original. The problem I have is that the choke has no effect on the bike. The choke operation, ie the mechanical side of the lever etc work perfectly, but the bike starts without it and when the lever is on or off there is no effect on the engine, as you would expect, namely rise in revs etc. Also the bike tick over fluctuates, I've read all the posts on not over tightening the carb for distortion purposes, the O rings etc and have done all I can. Can I also add that I have stripped the top end, ground the valves fitted Honda valve seals and the bike runs really well apart from the above, any ideas folks.
  11. Thanks Rollox, That's all pretty specific and very impressive to be able to quote so many part numbers and a 2001 Honda internal memo. Many thanks.
  12. Thanks Rollox, Just put her back together, only rode on the driveway. It came with a nine front and a 44 rear, like you said 1 St gear seems really nice for tight stuff. Where did you get the anti judder kit, does it work?
  13. Can someone please tell me the ideal sprockets, front and rear for the best gearing suitable to muddy rocky going in the North of the UK, need some new ones and though id canvas opinion before purchase. Thanks.

    4Rt Clutch

Hi Dave, Sorry about your step father. Read your other post about going to a 200 Beta, big change. I'm thinking of having a change, but the old Gasser to me to second place this weekend so I'm rethinking. Was going to have a year on a four stroke and was looking at the Beta or the 260 RT, but might give the Mont a wide birth if you say the clutch is naff, what's actually wrong with it. Is it just yours or a common problem on that bike, as I remember you ran it in, in text book fashion. The Beta 250 4T' s get good reviews. Dave.
  15. Ok people, the wait is over. The 248 is running like a dream . The problem was two fold , firstly schoolboy error by myself, which is slightly embarrassing but I don't want anyone to make the same mistake. I put the clutch crankcase seal in the wrong way round, which seems a very minor issue but has dramatic effects. In my defence the old seals are slightly different to the new ones and I did put them in as I thought they should be but anyway that was one of the issues. The other being a badly worn Amal. Now just a case of getting her out for a long run to burn off all that oil she has drawn in. Once again can I thank all the people on Trials Central for the advice. Dave.

    248 Flooding

Hi zerorev3rev4, Just read your old post re the 248, having identical problems with mine, it's all listed under chappo 248 coil relocation. Read up to the last post......how did it end, was it the condenser, carb or something else. Thanks, Dave.
  19. Thanks B40rt, Tried everything, checked everything twice and all appears correct apart from the Amal carb. So to all you followers, I've bitten the bullet and ordered a Mikuni replacement. Hopefully fitting it this weekend ....................... Watch this space. Dave.

    Oil

I've got the EBC water grooved ones on mine and they're not brilliant, but been spoilt with disc brakes on the modern bikes. 30years ago I'd have thought they were great but in those days on a steep downhill wet section when they failed to bite and ended up an my rear end I'd just get back on, now it'd be end of the trial and a 4 hour Radox bath. Good luck with sorting her out. Dave.

    Oil

Hi Mat, This extract is taken from the 248 owners manual, it's 300 cc's , of each gearbox and clutch. Quantity 1 Motor Castrol super TT 3% mixture 2 Gearbox Supergras 451 SAE 90 C.C USA floz GB floz Every 2 or 3 races or similar 300 10 10.5 3 Clutch & primary drive SAE 10w30 300 10 10.5 4 Front suspension Hydrol 7 200 7.1 7.3 Per leg Dave. Ps did you have a look at the brake images I sent?
  22. Hi Larry, Pm's checked, the GG carb won't fit without buying inlet rubbers etc, so saving the cash in case I decide on a flat side Oko carb to get her running right. Going to set to next week with the inline plug checker and then working through and testing every component regardless of new old or refurbished, to find her issue. Regards. Dave.
  23. Hi Mat, Hope these help. The brake bar on mine is 21 cm long. Dave.
  24. Thanks Allyboy, It's quite possible, going to get a spark plug tester (today) to see if the plug/ electrics are failing under compression. From there it's back to basics and testing each component in turn. Very, very frustrating. Dave.
  25. Mat, Forgot to mention, although you may have picked up on it. The last image shows the clutch cable leaving it's adjuster on the engine casing, from there mine goes up the right hand side frame tube, in front of the headset and behind the number board. Mine is super light, but I have stripped it all down. It may help lubricating the cable, I just hang mine up and form a funnel on one end using blue tack fill the blue tack funnel with some light oil and by the following day it will be somewhat lighter. But it does depend on the condition of your cable, it won't cure kinks in cables. Dave.
