  2. Thanks Spen, it is indeed what you say, data tag chip, glad I didn’t throw it away! hi lineaway, I’ll see if I can straighten the wiring when I put the chip back in had this starting issue earlier in the year so hopefully it is just turning out the adjuster enough to get it started should have left it alone at 2k rpm🤬
  3. Got a 2018 Montesa 260 4RT pulled it out of the garage last week & it kicked over first time let it run for 10 minutes, turned it off then kicked it over It started 1st time again let it run for a bit and ooking at the tacho it was running at over 2000 rpm so I turned the screw in a touch so it was running nicely at about 1850rpm at the same time I tucked the wiring that runs from the ignition behind the clip under the regulator...... turned it off then when I came to restart it wouldn’t start, did the reset, still wouldnt start so I looked at that wiring from the ignition & took off some loose electrical tape & pulled it out from the clip seen there was a crack in the insulation & when I looked inside I found this anyone know what it is? Surely can’t be from the factory? bike still won’t start 😤
  4. Just thought I’d share this as it might help others just done oil & oil filter change on my 4RT & like others struggled to get one of the front bolts to line up on the skid plate when refitting it so I loosened the down tube bolts on the same side a little & also the long bolt that goes through the bottom see photos & it lined up so I just tightened them all a little at a time until all were secure hope this helps
  5. when I had starting problems with my 260 over the winter I changed the plug to a 5 & I’ve left it in so may be something else to consider Cookie Monster
  6. Might be as simple as opening up the fuel injection screw half a turn & trying again then once you get it going set it at 1700 rpm + or - 100 from memory
  7. Done about 8 hours practice over the last 2 Sunday’s & the bikes running great generally riding for about an hour then leaving for about 20 minutes before riding again & bike starts 1st kick with perhaps the last ride of the day when I have to do the reset thing to get it started this similar to what others experience? then drive home for say 30 minutes & it starts 1st time before I clean it thanks
  8. Thanks lineaway ill see how I get on with the current set up & leave it if it continues to be reliable or up the rpm slightly if not all part of getting to know the bike but still feels a little odd after 15 months of ownership without having to change anything
  9. Thanks, wont worry as you both say but next time I change the coolant I’ll try the ice stuff
  10. Bikes starting as it should now on 2nd kick or sometimes 1st Tacho reads ~ 1,450 rpm on start up then steadily creeps up to ~ 1,900 rpm before fan kicks in then drops to a steady 1,850 rpm is that how it works for anyone else? i know 4 strokes run hot & 4rt run at a high rpm but the fan is on almost constantly read before this is quite normal is this something I should be looking at? thanks
  11. Stuck the 2nd tachometer behind the number board
  12. Got bike out today & it kicked over from cold 2nd kick took my time to get the kick starter to feel right if you know what I mean upped the rpm to ~ 1850 & it does fluctuate a bit but guess that’s normal so is the ecu that clever that it resets itself now the idle is within range? Making it start easier? weather a lot warmer today in the UK may have helped im just using the tach as & when I need it as I already have one bolted to the bike which I can’t get to go to 1P:2r anyone have any ideas? Holding the button in to change from hours to rpm works but holding the button in until it gets to 1P:2r doesnt thanks
  13. Thanks lineaway will see what it’s like on Friday & up it to 1,850 rpm minimum as you recommend & go from there still makes me wonder why my issue started in the 1st place thinking on I had a workshop fit apico clutch plates along with headstock bearings & a couple of other jobs & I’m wondering if they may have lowered the idle rpm cookiemonster
  14. Used tachometer earlier was ~ 1,450 rpm so increased it to 1,800 rpm which did feel & sound high so dropped it to a little over the bottom limit ~ 1,750 rpm still not starting from cold on 2nd kick as previously did but starting & running plus fan kicking it frequently coolant at correct level will continue to monitor it before getting out properly once it’s warmed up a bit 🥶🥶 thanks
  15. Have you tried Cowm, north of Rochdale? Got their own website
  16. Also went to a warmer spark plug over the weekend (5) which seems to have helped a lot just picked up a tachometer so will see what the idle speed is currently running at thanks
  17. Well..... just got some time to have another look, took HT lead off again gave it a little scrape with a screw drive again put back on kicked over2nd kick so let it run for 15 minutes, turned it off & left it for 5 minutes kicked it over started 1st time let it run again for 10 minutes turned it off & fitted my long range seat & number plate kicked it over started 1st time so when for a10 minute ride on the road came home turned it off & left it a while then every now & then kicked it over & all seems well.... all ive done is removed the BAS, slackened off the throttle cable, scraped the inside of the HT lead & its running Check resistance on the coil & its 3.2 still cant get the tachometer to work, can’t get the RPM to read the1 P: 1r or 1P : 2r or 2P:2r as per instructions i am reading the MMright aren’t i?
  18. Thanks just having a quick look now, double checked the plug gap, all good, still no spark, smelt of fuel scraped the inside of the plug cap with a small screw drive put back on kicked it over & it started maybe a coincidence ran for a bit then cut out kicked it over again & it started so rode it round the garden for 5 minutes before it cut out again then won’t start will undo the banjo on the injector to see if fuels flowing ok slackened off the throttle cable a little but that hasn’t made a difference tick over felt high once fan kicked in so will back off half a turn (from 3 1/2 turns out from fully in) Start again on Sunday wish me luck!
  19. Thanks for all your replies wont have chance to look again until the weekend you mention valve clearances jonnyc21 could this cause a no spark issue? ill look at the wiring diagram in the back of the manual to locate the ground (earth?) wires & try out the multi meter I’ve bought Cookiemonster
  20. Thanks everyone as mentioned I’ve removed the bank angle sensor& fitted that widget I bought on line so hopefully can eliminate that i got the 3 to 3 1/2 turns out from fully in for the idle off this site when I was looking for tips on how to fix the bike i do have an apico hour/tachometer but can’t get the tachometer to work...... will look at freeing off the throttle cable & also the thin washer behind the throttle stop (where is that?) when I start to check the electrics with the MM i am starting to think it’s fuel related as the plugs not wet thanks again
  21. Managed to undo the bolts & remove tank after the re routing of some other pipe work checked & cleaned all connectors then turned my attention to the bank angle senor had to remove air box & rear shock to get at the final bolt fitted the widget to the loom & re assembled everything kicked over a few times then did the reset but still wouldn’t start idle screw 3 1/2 turns out from fully in so hopefully that’s about right removed plug & still not wet but also no spark will move onto the kill switch coil etc tomorrow thanks
  22. Was riding last weekend without any issues then in the afternoon bike refused to start hadnt dropped the bike or hit anything hard bike ran fine all morning fresh fuel did the throttle reset still nothing so went home got home to clean bike & it started but the died after a couple of minutes so new plug no luck plugs not exactly wet but smells of fuel so hoping not fuel related does this sound right? no spark so will check all connectors for anything obvious however cant for the life of me remove the 2 bolts on the fuel injector to allow me to remove the tank do I definitely need to remove the injector first? will remove the bank angle sensor & replace with widget bought on line also bought a digital multi meter to go through kill switch, coil etc not electrically minded but determined to give it a go will also look at throttle play but not had this type of problem before as always any help is appreciated thanks
  23. Yes 5 steel & 6 friction (paper/cork) plates the apico kit with dimpled plates might be the way to go if you want a more progressive feel to your clutch
