  1. It only has one gear lever. I think I'll take your advice re the gear oil though Thanks Carl
  2. Thanks for the replies, from what you say Bruce I can quite believe it's a different frame as it was built from parts. However it runs really nicely so once I get an air filter I intend to try riding it! Do you know how to adjust the clutch? With the lever pulled in I can stop the wheel with the brake but it is dragging really badly. I have read the manual but any first hand advice would be helpful. Many thanks Carl
  3. My wife has been left this after her Grandfather passed away. All I know is that I believe he built it from parts he found/bought. Any help in identifying it would be much appreciated. It does run and seems to be in fairly good order, there are a few parts missing and I will be replacing them soon and hopefully riding it. Carl
  4. From Hampshire to Yorkshire. Towing a trailer!! It was worth it as the guy took two bikes in px. Carl
  5. Great result. I wanted a Sherco and ended up doing a 12 hour round trip to get what I wanted. You'll enjoy it Carl
  6. I have a 2010 290. I use 12.5ml of two stroke per litre, so 62.5 ml per 5l. That's 80:1. Carl
  7. Following the good advice from copemech and Steve Earle I did the flywheel side as this is the easier one to do as I had limited time and ***** weather. It has made a marked improvement to the idle and it will now tickover all day without me needing to blip the throttle or play with the idle screw. It's still not perfect to my ears ( I know a bit about engines and hear the odd missed/extra beat). Who said a little knowledge is dangerous? Anyway it'll do for now and if the sun ever comes out I'll do the clutch side to eliminate that as well. Thanks for all replies Carl
  8. Thanks Copes. I do have access to a windy gun and a dremmel so please, teach me o wise one!!
  9. Ok so I've ordered viton seals and a flywheel puller from splatshop. Has anyone posted any instructions on how to do this? I'm not a mechanical numpty and can tackle most things but instructions would help. Also do I need any other special tools? Which side is the easiest? Thanks in advance Carl
  10. Hi Steve. Thanks for the comprehensive reply. As far as I know it doesn't overheat and the fan comes on as it should. The revs don't hang as I remember, it seems to run well apart from the tickover. I'll check the vacuum connection next and let you know how it goes. Thanks for the offer of help I may take you up on it Carl
  11. Right I have cleaned all parts of the carb and checked all jets with a piece of copper wire and all holes are clear. It still has a "floaty" inconsistent tickover which I can't get right. It has a 122 main and 30 pilot and the needle is 3rd clip down. I have a sound recording but can't work out how to upload it, I this will help I'll try again Many thanks Carl
  12. It's on motors TV not Eurosport. ? time is correct though
  13. Thanks guys. Looks like I'm cleaning the carb again Carl
  14. Guys I have a 2010 sherco 290. It ticks over fine when cold but as it gets hot, say after an hours running the tickover gets slower and slower so I have to turn the idle screw a bit. Then it ticks over too fast so I turn it down and it's ok for a bit then slows down as if it's going to cut out so I have to keep blipping the throttle. Any ideas welcome. All I have done is clean the carb, I don't know what jets are in it or where the needle clip is.. Carl
  15. Hi, I need some info from the forum wise men. I've just bought a beta 50 for my sons 5 & 7 to learn on. I just need to know what fuel/oil mix to put in. Many thanks Carl
  16. You'll probably need trials boots but check with your club
  17. Just to clarify the fuel ratio. 80:1 equals 12.5 mls of oil to 1L of petrol. Or 62.5 ml for 5L of fuel. Carl. Took me a while to work out that it didn't mean 80 ml per 1 gallon. Maybe I'm just thick
  18. Gotta love predictive spelling. Made my night ?
  19. I had this on my techno. Had to buy a new rectifier from Lampkins. Now the the goes full speed. Even on tickover. Call lampkins they are really helpful. Carl
  20. For what it's worth it's better than me. I can just about manage a wheelie. Just bought the same bike.

    New Owner

I am now the proud owner of a 2010 290. Just want to ask a couple of questions. It has a map switch, does it make much difference? Which is gentle and which is mad power? Also how much movement should be on the front floating disc as there seems to be a lot on mine? Thanks in advance Carl
  22. Liking that...I have an fe450 and it tries to pull my arms off. What engine have you used?
  23. He left it late though. Last race of the week.
  24. Many thanks. Mines a 99 lampkin replica. Hopefully yours has the same ignition rectifier. I see on the wiring diagram a capacitor, mine doesn't have one, can you see if yours does please Waiting in anticipation Carl
  25. Ok, I thought I had found 12volts but not constant so the fan would only work when the engine was revved up, consequently it overheated after section 12. So I still need to know exactly where to get a feed from. I understand how the circuit works with the thermo switch but just need to know which two wires to get a feed from. It's an iskra rectifier with a brown and a red for the coil, a thicker yellow , 2 for the kill switch and another brown I think. The diagram on here doesn't correspond to my system. Carl
