  1. Off to look at this bike on sunday, think i'd check to check the frame number before i buy it. Is there anyway to check the number online? .. incase the bikes previously been stolen?
  2. Hi Paul, Thanks for the kind words. Aren't mortgages fun ! ... not, I've spent a fair chunk of time away and really missed the sport. Hopefully this bike wont be a 'toad', but to be on the safe side im getting a family member to come with me, that way i can have a second opinion if its rubbish! Need to find some local land to practice on tho i think
  3. gotcha, I'll look at this Mont, if its a nail i'll walk away. at which point i'll carefully look at other models that i havent rode on before. hopefully i can start riding soon
  4. Thanks for the Age related info, will come in very handy haha, regarding the electrician comment, my brother is a sparky actually but im not. you really dont rate them? my mate has a 03 or 05 beta, maybe i'll take a look at that one, but first i'll go look at this Montesa, have a look and see what the crack is.
  5. haha Wherry, Yes it does look a bit of a toad, figured that might help make the bike cheaper to be honest. But kinda wish i'd called him before the auction ended etc but nevermind. I think i'll check over general stuff like the air filter etc to see if they are new. obviously tyres can be easily checked. Good point about the rear linkage though. Is it a dog bone setup like the gasgas?
  6. Thanks for the message Doogle, From looking around i agree with you. Most likely a 1998, Think im just going to go and look at it, and if its a lemon just walk away. I kinda needed a cheap bike and at
  7. From looking on the net, it seems that the showa forks were fitted 2000-2004 and the paoli forks were 97-99 So im guessing the multicoloured forks were the showa's ..which means this bike is looking like a 97-99 ?
  8. Hi all, After moving away from home to live in Manchester I gave up trials and sold my bike It was my first trails bike and was a 2005 GasGas 280 TXT Pro, and i found it hard to give up.....that was in 2009 Im now living in my local area again (west yorkshire) with a mortgage! and wanted a cheap hobby and to get back in touch with the local trials club. So on an impulse buy i've bought a cheap Montesa 315r. Now I thought i'd stick a post up on here and ask if anyone know of any Montesa specific related issues that i should watch out for? i've already done alot of searching on the forum and found some great info, http://www.apexmotosports.com/content/montesa/315-technical-info.php http://dl.dropbox.com/u/28069907/Montesa_315R_02_2002.pdf http://www.apexmotosports.com/montesa%20parts%20book/e-1.htm But I thought i'd ask here to see if anyone else can give me some pointers before i collect. I bought the bike on ebay and was very apprehensive about not seeing the bike first, but then the timer got down to 5 minutes and i threw caution to the wind and stuck a bid on Here is a picture of the bike, and here is some of the blurb the seller said: FOR MY MONTESA 315R, HONDA 250cc ENGINE, BIKE IS CLEAN AND BEEN LOOKED AFTER TYRES ARE NEW BRAKES ARE NEW HANDLE BAR GRIPS NEW NEW AIR FILLTER NEW WHEEL BEARING NEW TWISTGRIP NEW HEAD BEARINGS LOTS NEW PARTS FITTERD THE BIKE HAS JUST HAD A FULL SERVICE Obviously i will take all of this with a pinch of salt. I did ask the seller about the engine, starting up and the year of the bike. He told me it was a 2001 and the engine is spot on. I've read on here that to identify the year of the bike I need to look at the 10th digit?
  9. yeah it is annoying to wip out the spanner to take it off, but it only cost me
  10. the pinch bolts work ok, but i think if i was being anal, i might line it all up and then drill a hole through both tubes for the bolts to go through. i've been told The only problem with lowering the back end of a 306 is that, if you just lower the torsion bar your putting more load on the 'rear load sensing valve' hence making it brake more at the rear = dodgy. You can lower it in another way so that it doesnt affect the sensory, apparently. but no im happy now so after six months of not going on my bike im finally back on it !
  11. Put the rack on, Got a wittle towbar and a rack of ebay which looks as though someones made it. abit wobbly but does the job a treat. The car aint quite so quick anymore ! haha Front end sits alittle high but its not bad and i cant hear the back wheels rubbing when i go over bumps, so for now im sorted !
  12. the one with all the coils is my old one - i had the ignition rewound on that for (
  13. RIGHT ! I HAVE A SPARK ! thats the good news, The bad news i had to use a different stator, which means the guy i paid (
  14. feel for you thats really S*it. Apart from more beefy locks im not sure. Were the bikes chained up to an anchor?
  15. Seems like thats the prob doesnt it. No i don't know. Ill talk to gasgas and see if i can order one with the potential to return. Cheers betapete Matt
  16. red plug out of black box - Continutiy between red coil wire and outside of coil. Coil is not mounted to bare metal but i am getting good continuity. But im not getting power to the red (coil) wire anyway ! Im thinking the black advance box is broken if im getting power to it, but non from it. ?
  17. ok. Betapete i will take minute. Right. ***quick note, i have not got anything attached to the yellow cable from the stator, this is because the voltage rectifier looks knackered (yellow cable is missing) so ill order another at some point. Thought this cable was just for the thermostat and fan and wouldnt affect the spark, so i left it out*** Multimeter on stator - blue and black cable - gives reading of 0.30 at the most. Thing is i cant get a reading on the red cable that goes to the coil, i cant even get continuity between that cable and any earth (in continuty test im getting 570). I do get continuity between the red cable and the other end of it at the plug that goes into the red box. so the cable isnt broke. I have two conclusions 1 - the stator is giving out too low a volatge? 2 - the black box (advance module) is knackered? ... Any more advice betapete? apart from take it to a mechanic ( i may take a trip to gasgas at this rate !) Cheers Matt just done a test - with a 9 volt batter on one end of the advance module and a multimeter on the other - hope this makes sense. On stator side: battery +ve on the blue pin connector -ve on the black pin connecotor On the other side Nothing stator side Battery +ve on black connector - ve on blue cable Only one reading on the other side Red Probe Blue cable pin Black Probe Black cable pin Gave a reading of 0.60 from a 9v battery. This seems odd to me. I thought the battery would work on the blue cable was the black would be an earth. But no. Also the otherside. That says to me that the kill switch is getting power and not the coil wire!!?? (maybe i should uncrimp the blue wire and send it to the coil ! ) Betapete, can you shed anylight on this? ill put the wiring diagram below so you can look at that too.
  18. B*****ks knows, tried that nothing. I at a loss. btw im not getting continuity between the wire to the coil and any of the earths. Im also not getting continuity across the black box. Im at a loss
  19. Right im getting continuity when i press the switch down. I thought that it would be the other way around. Ie the circuit would be broken when i pushed the button. ? Also i've filed the paint off a lug. sanded it right down... still no spark but good continuity. Ill try the battery idea in a minute
  20. ah killswitch, its not stuck down. I think ill grind the paint off in the second photo, where the bracket is...
  21. im building my bike and i cant get the thing to spark !! its winding me up ! the frames been powder coated but i havn't taken the pant off any of the lugs for the grounding. (why im thinking no spark) However ive been doing continuity tests between the engine and bolts on the frame and there positive. So its making me think the engine and frame are connected therefore the engine is grounded? but still no spark. Multimeter - - Getting a voltage output on the magneto cables. - but im not getting anything on the cable that goes to the coil (the one that comes from the 'advance' box. So is it cos of the ground or my advance box? I've tried different plugs and nothing, cut the ht lead down alittle and nothing. Reason i havn't taken the paint off yet is because i dont know where to mount the black box, (and the ground point is next to it, whereever that is. looking for abit of advice really guys. If you can offer any ?? - btw, in the second photo where i put the clip, that a good grounding point? (been using the bolt on the coil)
