  1. What you could also consider is modifying the top yoke to take bar risers and overcome the 'tiller' steering (where the bars are mounted behind the axis of the sterring stem) at the same time. I had one recently where the original mounts had been milled off and renthal bolt on mounts from a GasGas Pro had been fitted, this modification would also allow you to use bar riser plates.
  2. Hello Dan, I believe the original bars had a rise of 6 or 6.5". You will struggle to get Renthals over 5.5" unless you can find new old stock somewhere.
  3. Do you know the entry fee for the 2 days and the Satuday evening meal yet Greeves?
  4. Are there any big names riding this year?
  5. Is there a 'step' in the bore at the top? If you have cracks in your piston I would bin it anyway!
  6. Is that measurement at the top of the piston or at the skirt? 0.010" = 0.4mm, the 2 stroke piston is tapered slightly so the skirt is in contact with the bore at the bottom and the rings for a seal at the top. Is there a 'step' in the bore right at the top?
  7. Just fill the gearbox until oil starts to bleed out of the level screw which is by the kickstart. The level screw is a hex head M6 bolt with a crosshead slot in it. From an engine rebuild you could probably get 850cc in the gearbox, from draining it in the bike you would probably only get around 700cc as there are some places that simply won't drain. ATF works well in the silver engine.
  8. Yes easy to find, it's on the A24 between Dorking and Reigate about 2 miles from Dorking. Yes there are solo bikes there too. The organising ACU club is Normandy http://www.normandymcc.co.uk
  9. For anyone else having the same problem, it was the lack of oil that was the problem as they are double damp forks. They should have SAE 5W if they are the new manufactured ones by Greeves and work very well with the correct weight and volume of oil! They take 2 oil seals in each leg 32x45x7 the top seal has a double lip so make sure you put them in the right way around with the steel springs facing downwards.
  10. From my experience people buy the Beamish because it is a relatively cheap twinshock. Consequently they don't really want to spend any money on it and if they do they want it original and don't ride it. As you know the footpegs on the Beamish are very small and extremely slippery, I had 10 pairs made of proper chrome plated pegs that were specific toe Beamish and nothing else, they had a much greater footprint and were a quality item. I had a job to sell the 10 pairs I commissioned selling them at the cost price of
  11. Hi Jon, I have run ATF in my Suzuki gearbox without any problems at all. The beauty of ATF is it is so cheap you don't mind changing it often which is good for the gearbox and the clutch.
  12. For all you sidecar enthusiasts, the Goodwin Sheild is being hosted by Normandy Club on the 27th of February 2011 at the Old Quarry Betchworth, Nr Dorking, Surrey.
  13. Hi Abbifin, To my knowledge no-one other than me had done footrests for the Beamish. I had a batch of larger ones made using the old mounts. I don't think anyone makes a bracket to lower them. You may like to invent something or commission someone to do it for you and have a batch made to sell as I am sure you are not alone. A guy who may help is Steve Wright at www.swpb.co.uk and he has a Mk2 Beamish himself.
  14. Fashions come and go, like USD forks! You have to trust that the manufacturerer knew what they were doing at the time.
  15. Hi all, I have just booked toe ferry from Portsmaouth to Santander on the 25th of May and it is filling up fast. There are no reclining chairs left or inside cabins; so if you are travelling that way book early! The return journey isn't a problem. We are 4 coming so far and hoping to get Bob Moore out there too. Entries when we arrive Javier? When do we need to book accommodation?
  16. A friend sent him $2,000 for a bike that never arrived 4 years ago, Mr McP is still stringing my friend along that he may receive it.... Make up your own mind but if you have money to throw away or bikes and parts that don't arrive - throw it my way!!!
  17. I've just bought an outfit, should be ready to trial early spring, keep me posted on twinshock events, we are way down in Brighton!
  18. I have a Tiger Cub with a pair of 32mm MP600 forks. I was told when I bought the bike that the forks were 'new'. I assuemed 'new old stock' but they could well have been new ones from Greeves who have owned the rights to Metal Profile for about 12 years now and are remanufacturing an updated version. When going over uneven ground at speed or lifting the front wheel, I get a resounding 'clunk' as the forks reach the fill extent of their travel. In other forks I have stripped, there is a short spring at the top of the valve tube to stop this, I think in the MP600's I have there is just a rubber 'bump stop' from the feel of it. I drained the forks and there was 100cc of ATF whereas Greeves reccommend 200cc of SAE 5W fork oil for their updated forks. Has anyone else had a similar problem?
  19. Hi Jon, Only the last of the silver engine models (late 77 and 78) had air assisted forks. The Caps should be at 45 degrees as you say. It is possible someon has thought to convert an earlier pair of forks but the internals are different. If you have early forks, it is 236cc of ATF or 10/30W motor oil in each leg. If you remove the fork spring and look down to the top of the fork valve, if it has 4 holes in it, they shoulc be air assisted, if not they should just be oil.
  20. You can modify the swing arm to take other bushes but the original metalastick ones had no moving parts and lasted on average 30+ years. I am machining another 10 sets with stainless nuts, spindles, spacer and washers in the next few weeks.
  21. They don't quite all do it but many do, it depends on the use the bike gets. It is not a head diestrotion and they were straight when they cam out of Portslade. It is particularly the Mk2 (triangular side panels with three screws) that do it. The later bike crackes the gusset with sress in the opposite direction, again a lot are like that but not all. Don't worry about it, if anything it slightly steepens the head angle! lol
  22. Sorry but you are quite wrong. The forks are air assisted and have the valve to allow you to put in 15psi and no more, it will made a huge difference to the damping. You should used 195cc of 10/15 or 20W frok oil accoring to your weight and riding preference. The top spacer/tube in the forks were about 4" long with a 'top hat' top and bottom. I will have a pair apart in a week or so and measure them accurately. No-one does springs specifically for the Beamish you just have to hunt about! Try www.bultaco.co.uk and see how long their springs are or try Craig Mawlam as he as started doing 'Magical' springs.
