  1. I have two, first year 123's with the 17"/20" wheel combo. One has a white looking frame and the other has a battle ship gray looking frame. What color should the frames be? I want to get them repainted.

  3. Martin, what color is that frame, white?
  4. I'm helping a friend sort out a 1976 Montesa, Malcomb Rathmall replica with an Amal c
  5. I had the same noise on my '08 Rev-3. Dealer told me it was the floating disc. Got an '09 EVO and never experienced the noise on it. Could have been headset in need of grease but close inspection kept telling me it was coming from low on the forks or front wheel area.
  6. I see pegs advertised for modern MX bikes that look like the same basic design like they are built to straddle a post with a bolt through the middle. Im guessing there's already something made that would cross over, just the matter of being able to access some to bolt on to verify.
  7. Thanks! I plan on it. What are the major differences from the 348 to the 349? Anyone know of wide pegs that'll bolt on without modification to the frame?
  8. Man, thanks for the advice! Are you competeing on yours or just tooling around on it? I want to compete on this one but hate to mess it up at the same time. The frame and engine paint aren't quite as good as the photos might lead you to believe. Not bad but not perfect either. I originally traveled 7 hrs to pick up a highly modifed TY ready to compete. I bought it and ended up trading out with a pal of mine for this before I left his house. He could tell I was enamored with the bike and did it as a friendly gesture more than anything I think. I am soooo happy that I have it!!! Definetly if I compete on it I'll take the lights off to preserve them. The rubber straps are dry rotted but the bulbs still light up! Even has original grips and throttle. I may take those off to preserve them and install a Domino. After my first wash the bike was popping and sputtering and eventually smoothed out to normal. For stock suspension it's not bad. I'm sure newer modern stuff is better but this isn't nearly as bad as some I've had. Did you have to modify anything for the pegs to work or did you find something that would bolt right on? I'd rather not modify the frame at all.
  9. So I picked up a Montesa Cota 349 over the weekend and it seems like a great bike but was wondering if there are any issues to be aware of or advice to making the bike all it is capable of? Here are a few pics: http://s871.photobucket.com/albums/ab275/kbellyes/1981%20Montesa%20Cota%20349%20-%20White%20Wonder/
  10. They're both 28M but beyond that I don't see how that chart tells me the year model??? The serial numbers are: 28M1328 & 28M2654 I looked at the chart but it only tells me I have two 123s as far as I can tell????
  11. Yeah, I realized about the wheels. Got em good enough price to make up for that. I've seen photos of others with the same color frames. These are older models with aluminum fenders. I tried to PST pics without success. One appears to be original down to the barely worn tires. The less original one has better looking chrome.
  12. Just picked up these two Cora 123s and trying to figure out what year model each are. One has a white frame and the other has more of a battle ship or dove gray frame. Other than that I don't see a lot that differenciates the two. I'm thinking the white framed one is a 1972 model.
  13. Could you be a little more 'feeble' bad speller..... ;-)
  14. Not if family is more important than your job......
  15. Had an '06 & a '08 Rev-3 250's. Loved both but GG is a lot lighter. Have an EVO now and they are light like the GG but still have the Beta solidness. '06 GGs had the Ohlins shock if I remember correctly.

    EVO Fenders

So I notice a lot of comments on the Beta EVO fenders not being very durable. I recently bought a 2009 EVO 250 like new with a cracked front fender that had been super glued back together. I ended up breaking it off in the back yard playing around so I bought a new one. I installed it before competing in my first trials on it, took it home washed it and parked it. That weekend a friend came over and I broke it out to show it to him. What do you know, I did a wheelie and when I came doen the front fender caught on something and SNAP!!!! another broken fender. I did notice thet it caught on something and initially thought it was the header pipe. After looking at it all a while I'm thinking they are catching on the radiator. There are scuff on the bottom 1-2" where the new and old fenders have rubbed. It appears that if the fender were about 1 1/2" shorter it'd miss whatever its snagging on. Anyone else experience this? What solutions are people coming up with? Is there a better replacement item than the stock fenders?
  17. I bought an '09 250 recently and had the same question. From what I gathered, the original batch of '09 frames had some breakage problems. From what I understand mostly by Pro level or agressive/abusive riders. The way you tell if it is an original batch frame is if the fuel cap is mounted off center its an original batch. If it's centered in the middle of the frame it's the later reinforced frame. Other than that, I think the fenders arent very durable and the kick stand lasts for a day or two.....
  18. Great story!!! Pretty much what it's all about!!!
  19. The stiffer spings aren't mx stiff just stiffer than the stickers which really dive under my weight. Probably using over 75% of the fork travel riding on flat ground and bottom out on any sort of downhill. The guy I got it from has a '81 200 and says it is an inch shorter than my bike. It turns more like a modern bike to me. He says it's more about lengths than angles in this case.
  20. Yeah I need to keep at it. Haven't gotten everything exactly perfect.
  21. Goes to show; change doesn't always equal improvement. Any advice on how to help out the steering that isn't too dramatic a change?
  22. I have a 1983 Montesa Cota that I have gone through pretty well and a friend of mine has a 1976 Montesa Cota 348 MRR that is basically stock. After riding mine for a few months, I rode his and noticed his seems to turn and steer much more easily and smoother than mine. I have modern pegs on mine that slightly lower and push back the foot position. I have also installed stiffer fork springs and after market Works Performance shocks. Anyway, does anyone know why the older bike seems to steer better than the newer bike? Is this an inherent trait of the 1983 242 or is is just a personal things as to what each rider might prefer? Any ideas?
  23. Yeah the '09 I just bought came without a kickstand. The guy I bought it from said it was crap and he threw it away. I thought he had just lost it and told me that but I guess not huh?
  24. That was Larry Holbert on that 'old white Montesa'. He's no joke and commonly wins Advance class trials against modern bikes on the Cota!!! He's AWESOME!!!
