According to his Facebook posts, he's at least thought about it.. The first thing through my mind when he beat Pat for the first time was that I wondered how he'd do in Europe. Great to have 2 riders so talented in the US. It'd be nice if there were a way to support guys with their talent to go compete overseas if they so desired. A solution to help them with the culture differences, etc. Great that Dirt Rider went to a national and competed. I already subscribe but feel better about it knowing they went and reported on it. To me it's as interesting to hear an average Joe's impressions as it is to hear what a Pro thinks. They really are the only mainstream rag to give trials any attension at all. It would be nice to see even more coverage such as bigger event reports such as the nationals. It would be cool to see bike tests or even a trials shootout like you used to see in the seventies.

I had one once where a wire had broken. you couldn't see that it was broken in the housing but that was the problem. It was broken where the 2 plugs connected to the thermostat.

I know a guy that has a disc conversion for an old TY for sale. I guess he had it on the enough years ago that it wasn't illegal back then. Basically he machined a piece that could be bolted to the fork to hold a caliper and used a YZ disc brake. If I remember correctly, he is selling the bolt on piece, the disc and brake and the front wheel for around $150.00.

I may take you up on that Glenn. Let me know if you ever want to sell your 50. Ben I have to replace my clutch anyway so I may give it a try then. Your bike has been an inspiration. So far I have put 360mm Falcon's, Pro-Taper bars, new tires, I have TY forks I'm putting on along with the front wheel, new fenders, grips, Domino throttle, brake shoes, fork seals and wipers etc. I still hope to do the B&j porting & head mods, new chain & sprockets, seat cover, I have a friend who is going to powder coat my frame white and paint my tank even though it isn't too bad off. I also have a spare frame I plan on lowering the peg height and setback on with modern pegs as well as consider changing the head angle. I'll see what the Ty forks do for handling first. It looks like they will bring the axle about 2" closer to the frame. I'll bore the cylinder if needed while getting the porting done. The list goes on..... And to think I had originally planned to just get it good enough to ride without being scary!!! The only problem is, now that I'm used to the KT I can barely ride my modern bike!!!!

If you read down a couple of posts you will see where I corrected mt statement. My point was that I DON'T think there will be many or any more clean or low point trials this year and that there IS NOT a chance for a return on the investment. If money where no object and you had the money to stay over and do it so you could say you did it, assuming you had that much talent, that would be a whole different story.......

Anyone ever tried the 1974 KX-400 clutch case mod? How difficult was it?

What I meant to say was that I DOUBT that all the Junior World rounds will be cleaned or single digit rides. I would guess that was one of the easier one's judging from the top line scores.

I venture to say all of the Junior line World Rounds will be cleaned or single digit rides even. I would guess it's pure economics. Spend a boat load of money and what's the return on your investment??? In Europe maybe there is some money for winning or placing high in the World rankings for endorsmemnts or contracts to ride for a certain team but in the US it's probably just a matter of self satisfaction which is a pretty expensive ego boost.

What shock bolts are you using?

That's what I'm after. I guess to get the desired steering I need TY forks and clamps.

I have heard that putting TY forks on a KT make a huge difference in the handling traits. I was wondering if switching the triple clamps would have a similar affect since they appear to have less offset or if the front wheel will eve line up. Anyone ever tried it???

I went from a 2005 Gas Gas 280 Pro to a 2006 Beta Rev-3 and HATED IT to start with. I found putting the forks all the way down in the triple clamps so no fork tube at all is showing at the top of the triple clamps, putting set-back pegs (RYP half or full backs) and rotating the handlebars back towards me since they don't seem to be rotated forward like a lot of bikes to help them turn. I think all of this is because the Beta is more weighted to the front of the bike and the adjustments pull the weight back toward the rear wheel a little.

HMMMM, I hate to pointe out the obvious, but I wonder what Pat thinks and wants????? It's really his choice........ Anyway, I see Pat as a reserved guy that is probably mistaken as not enjoying himself when he may just look that way while concentrating or in the moment. Being a reserved person myself, I've had many people mistake what I was thinking, feeling, etc when I wasn't jumping around and screaming in joy when they would have been. This is just a total guess though since I don't know Pat at all......

Glenn, that SWM looks REALLY thin!!! I can't say that I've ever seen one in person...Uh bike I didn't ride Bob's bike but did get a chance to ride Pee Wee's and Dick's bike. They are a world apart from mine...... Your rides just as good from what I can remember. Is that your son that was all over the place on the trials bicycle?

I rode in the late 70's and very early 80's. I feel lost about 80's & 90's trials bikes. I never see any SWMs or Majesty's for sale, mostly TY's, TL's and a few Rl's and KT's. Ocasionally Montesa's and Bul's will pop up for sale usually in waves it seems. I like the looks of the SWMs and would like to check one out one day. I have seen a few Majesty's but not sure if they're the real thing or not.

Honda dominates the upper vintage???? I'm not sure what you're saying, I thought Honda was pretty low on the totem pole with vintage event trials?????

I was curious how rare SWM, Majesy's and some other vintage bikes are in the US? I've only seen a few of these around.

That bike is GREAT!!!! What rear shocks are those? What kind of silencer is that? Have you done fork mods other than springs?
