  1. I'm considering a new helmet. I currently have a Hebo Jeroni replica. It is comfortable but very hot even in winter weather. I'm considering a Shiro vented helmet or maybe an NZI. The problem with the NZI is that it doesn't fit my head that well and would require some carving on a brand new helmet. Other choices are the On Off carbon hemet or the Shoei helmet. Neither are vented but may be better than what I have. Anyone with any experience with these helmaets? Thanks!!
  2. I had that book at some point. I'll have to see if I still have it.
  3. I recently switched from an 04 300 Pro to an 05 280 Pro. The 280 has a lot less time on it and the engine, suspension and everything in general has a tighter, less worn feeling about it. The power is smoother and more manageable. More predicatable as well. The only problems are that I'm having a harder time balancing it than my year older 300. I'm sure there are slight differences in the two even though they are both Gas Gas and within a year model of each other. The conclusion that I have come to is that the suspensusion is slightly stiffer on this bike than on the 04. making it take larger hits better but a tad more difficult to balance. I like that the new suspensions is more capable in the bigger stuff and don't really want to set it so soft that I lose that. Any advise on getting that happy medium or should I just ride and adapt? Secondly, the clutch is harder to pull and harder to get adjusted where I can have the clutch engaged when pulled in to my finger and still able to disengage with totally letting go with my finger. I had the stiffness problem with my 04 and remidied it with an 06 spring. I'm not sure what to do about the release point. Any ideas? Thanks in advance!!!
  4. We have 5 or more member in our club (same one as Thumper) in the Hickory area. I can hook you up with names if you like. TTC is having a 2 day event Dec. 1-2 I think.
  5. True or rumor. Keith Wineland too???
  6. If so what do you like or regret about your change? Thanks
  7. I'm considering a trip with the wife next year to the UK. I thought it would be nice to check out some pro trials while visiting. My dad's side of the family is of English decent and my mom's side is of Scottish decent. So maybe the SSDT? Maybe the world round in the UK? Anyway, I'm just fishing for ideas on where to stay what time of year and what events would be most enjoyable. Any ideas would be welcomed. Any advise of where not to stay etc. is also welcomed. Thanks!!! By the way, the wife isn't really into trials, so an all trials visit is out of the question but part of my bargaining strategy is to score a trials fix while visiting.
  8. Not sure who makes it but here's one. http://www.lewisportusa.com/Images/4rt_seat_tank_2.jpg
  9. Pate Keen 74 years young. Consistantly scores in the single digits in CVOTC events in the Sportsman class while everyone else has 30+ points and up. He could probably still dominate Advanced class if his knees were better. (At least that's what he says). He also took the nation 60+ title 2 or 3 years in a row.
  10. GAWD!!! That thing is HOTTTT!!!!!!
  11. Well, I got my clutch spring in from Lewisport on wednesday. Put it in last night. The difference in pull is tremendous. It's like no effort at all is required to pull the clutch in now. It does have a more vague feeling than the original spring. Less abrupt release, which is what I was looking for. It will take a little getting used to but I think I'll like it better. The guy that I bought my bike from complains about his '06 300 clutch releasing too far from the grip making it harder to let out on hte clutch without letting go of the lever. Mine seems to be similar but I haven't tried to adjust it at all yet. I just thought it was strange that the smae result came from a spring only change. By the way, I've seen plenty of posts about what the proper oil level is. Manual says 550 cc, I've seen all sorts of suggestions here with 350cc being the most common. Anyone have an opinion on this? I may still change the gearing, mostly because I just like a bike that will creep when the need arises. 10-44 or 9-42. I'll write back.
  12. I guess you could. I imagine if it works on an '04 it would work on an '05. I got mine from Lewisport here in the US. Not sure where you are but any knowledgable shop should be able to answer Ithat I would think. I rode an '05 tonight and the clutch felt easier than mine but it was just for a few minutes.
  13. I recently purchased a Gas Gas 300 Pro from a club member. It is easier to ride than my old bike but I would like to tame it down a bit. The place where I have the most problems is when I'm in a tight spot and need to ease out on the clutch and smooth over something. My clutch pull is harder than my previous bike but not as much like an on off switch. After a little practicing I need to stop to let my hand rest, something I didn't have to do on my previous bike. The power is so much that sometimes I get more wheelspin than I want. Recently I've been experimenting with riding in 2nd gear with pretty good results. Here are the things that I have considered doing to help tame this beast: 1. Slow throttle - Slower throttle would slow the bike down but on my previous bike, I noticed that double blips and bursts of power to get up on top of things were hampered. 2. Flywheel weight - I'm sure it would slow the bike down but have heard that the power delivery is changed so dramtically that it makes me worry that it would be over kill. I do like the way the 300 leaps up on top of things. 3. Thinner clutch plates - I was told that clutch pull would be easier with thinner plates. My bike is an '04 and may be hampered by normal wear. I'm not sure. I know I don't want quick snappy on-off type clutch action though. I just ordered an '06 clutch spring which is supposed to help in the heavy pull. 4. Gearing - Right now I'm running 10-42 gearing. This has helped a lot with th eridablilty of the bike compared to the stock 11-42 gearing. I'm considering 10-44 or 9-42 hearing. I'm thinking 9-42 will be too much but mat try it first since it will be the cheapest route for me. I'll probably end up with a new bike in 2007 (pending $$ situation willing) so spending as little money as possible on my current rig is of importance. I am considering a 250 for my next bike. The 300 seems more rider friendly than the 280/290s but the 250 may be even more rider friendly. Here in the US everyone is on 280/290s and used 250s are rare. Any advise would be appreciated! I figure someone out there has experimented with this and will be able to help save me some time and money in this. I gues I'm a little overwhelmed with options at this point.
  14. I was just looking at the standings after the GB round on Trialsonline.com when I noticed the provisional schedule for the 2007 year. The was no US round listed. Is that the way it will be or just maybe not? Anyone know? Sorry if this has already been discussed, I could find anything on it.
  15. Sounds like you did the right thing!! When in boubt......Wait!! Your bike will come along soon!!
  16. Dave, Cool!!! I just picked up trials again as well. There are two guys in their 70s in our club and one guy that is 63. The 63 year old started riding trials around 1965 and never put it down. One of the 70 something guys consistantly whips the Sportsman class by dropping half as many points as anyone else. He could ride advanced if his knees would let hm. The only thing that I can say about their abilities is that I hope some day to be able to ride half as good as any one of them. These guys as well as yourself are a great inspiration to me. Have fun!!! It's a great sport with lots of great people!!!
  17. You guys just don't know how lucky you are, or do you? From an outsiders point of view, it seems that the UK and other parts of the world are just loaded up with trials shops and online ordering galore! Plenty of clubs and mates to enjoy it with. Am I right or is it just the WWW that makes it look as such? Don't get me wrong, the clubs and people here are as guinuine and as good natured as you could ask for, there just seems to be more going on elsewhere. I guess the grass is always greener.....
  18. Anyone know the torque specs. for the triple clamp bolts, both top and bottom, on the Marzocchi forks on an '04 Gas Gas? Also, how much can the forks be dropped in the clamps? 5mm? The manual says 0mm for short tubes but how do I know if I have short tubes or not? Thanks!
  19. Sharp ride!! Looks to be very clean too! How does it compare to the older bikes you had?
  20. Anyone out there owning a 2004 model or newer Gas Gas have issues in these areas or any other areas that would be considered as needing more attention than usual? Thanks!

    Beta Quirks

Hello Beta fans. I was just wondering if the 2005 or 2006 Betas have any quirks or things that commonly break on them or need attention from the get go or after some time is put on them? Any comments are welcomed! Thanks!
  22. yeah, they had a test on this bike, well last year version, in one of the Mountain bike mags in the UK, Awesome was the word they used. Looks damned sexy, doesn't it. Cost, typical honda,
  23. I'll help out if I can Andy. I'm new again and love sharing ideas and hashing out questions with similarly experienced types. What did you have in mind and what would it require of me? Maybe a FAQ thread? I had no idea you were a non-rider. Is that correct? You do an awesme job here! Thanks!
