  1. Hi and welcome ! I also have a Tlr200 . Its a great bike, lots of fun to ride. I also love to work on it as there is alot that can be done to improve the stock bikes. So far i have rebuilt the entire bike and motor, moved the pegs back and down 1/2 ''( what a difference half an inch makes!) , Made an extension for the clutch arm, rebuit and modified the rear shocks, modern trials handle bars, carb kit with bigger main jet, etc. I am in the process of making my own fiberglass tank/seat as i am a diy sort of person.
  2. I watched the Red bull last man standing endurance race on the Speed channel this evening. It was the closest thing to trials i,ve seen on the box. In fact ,it seemed that the riders with trials experience seemed to do the best, with lot of trials like obstacles. Geoff aaron was one of the riders competing on an interesting 2 wheel drive bike. I,m sure they will show it again if you missed it. Well worth watching.

I think the main differences between the stock tlr200 motor and other honda 4 stroke 200 and lifan motors is that the tlr has smaller valves/carb, much heavier rotor, and lower gearing. I,m interested to know if there is another motor that shares the same head with the smaller valves and different cam; as i may have to replace mine soon and tlr heads are hard to come by and probably very expensive from a Honda dealer. Has anyone run say a xr/xl motor with the bigger valves in a tlr? I know it gets more hp, but is it still ok to do trials with? Does it stall easier at low speeds and/or lose traction and torque?
  4. Dan, I will stop by the Stra and ttc booths. I hope to be a member this year and attend some events. It would be nice to get a club going for the Atlanta/north Ga area as it seems alot of members are fom the area. Willing to help at the show if needed, Tom.
  5. I'm hoping to go to the Atlanta motorcycle show this weekend. It would be interesting to see how much trials related stuff there is. Also the local motorcycle shop here in lilburn/snellville is having a open house night on friday with bubba and other supercross riders appearing. I might even go to the race the next day. Should be a motorcycle packed weekend.

Here's a pretty good article on building up a 200 motor,if you can't find a complete motor. www-staff.lboro.ac.uk/~elvpc/bikes.html?http://www-staff.lboro.ac.uk/~elvpc/papers/XR200.html Trials geared honda motors are probably quite hard to come by ,and if you do they are quite expensive.
  7. Could be true! I watched a program on t.v the other night ,saying they are allowing traction control in super bike and gp racing to reduce accidents from sliding out on corners. It was a very interesting show called "crash science" on the national geographic channel. Worth watching if you get that channel. It was all about how technology has been used in road bike racing to make it a safer sport.
  8. Thanks, i'll try that. I though maybe it was the opposite, and there was too much freeplay somewhere, causing something to slide out of place slightly when on its side. I suppose i'll have to take the case off again and check.

    Tlr Shifting?

Here's my dilema. I rebuilt my tlr200 back in the summer from a non runner. At first i was having trouble shifting through the gears. The lever would bind and had to forcefully knock it into gear. After riding a few times the shifting has become easier, like it should be. Strange thing is i have dropped it on the rear brake side a couple of times ( not hard, i,ve caught it so it wouldn't do damage.) Then it go's back to where its hard to get it in gear again. It loosens up after a quite a while of riding. Its got me baffled. The star shaped cam is in good shape and the shift drums seem ok. I havent dropped it on the gear shifter side, so i haven't bent that. I was wondering if this has happened to anyone else? Why would the gears be hard to engage after being on its side? I know the obvious answer would be not to drop it!

    Tlr 200 Gearing

Talon sprockets In the U.k makes 9 and 10t sprockets. Don't know if you have any distributors in NZ though. I used a 10t sprocket made for a old honda atc 185-200 Three wheeler here in the U.S. that has the same splines and pattern and used a circlip to hold it on.
  11. That's a good idea! Nickel coated or chromed. It would look great but probably expensive though. I'll have to look into that option.
  12. I painted my tlr frame with some acrylic enamel over primer and a coat of clear, which i though would be quite durable. But it still gets scraped and chipped easerly. Thought maybe i should have powder coated it, but seems that that gets chipped easy too. So i would like to know what a good durable finish people have used too.
  13. Yeah, thats what i don't understand.
  14. That's crazy ! You would think that once the car came to a stop, they would just quit trying to drive on the stuff.

    Tlr 200 Gearing

I got a circlip from the local hardware store. I also used the stock mounting clip as a spacer behind the sprocket. I cut off the bolt hole tabs so they didnt hit the chain.

    Rs360t Video

Thanks for posting that ! I,ve been searching for some old footage like that, as i wondered what the pros were able to do with these machines back in the day. There's still hope for my skills on my tlr200.
  17. I don't know where you are, but here in the U.S, POR-15 makes a tank sealer for fiberglass. The white kreem is used on metal tanks, so won't work. They say that an epoxy resin is more chemical resistant than the normal poly resin. But like you said it's probably best to find a tank sealer made for fiberglass rather than coating it again with more resin. Oh, and a tip for anyone using Kreem on metal tanks : Thin it down a little ,before pouring . I found out that the stuff was too thick to get into the nooks and crannys, and still leaked in the places it didn't reach.
  18. What a great collection of bikes! i'm drooling.

    Tlr Prices

Zippy, i just broke my pedal off yesterday ,with the kickstarter hitting it. I had to keep bending it back into shape. It finally gave up. I,ve now got to fix it somehow. I don't have a welder, so i was thinking of drilling a hole through the end of the arm ,and attach a bolt or something. Thing is the arm end is only about 1/2'' wide. I might just have to find someone who can weld me a piece on. Any suggestions out there ? The tlr brake pedals seem to be quite unique to that bike , so i can't really find a replacement.
  20. I think any 4 stroke oil will do, but make sure the bottle says its for wet clutch motors. I made the mistake at first with my tlr200 ,using normal engine oil. Then went to some motul 4 stroke oil thats made for wet clutch systems. Works great now.

    Tlr 200 Gearing

I just put a 10 tooth front sprocket on mine today. The rear is still the original 44 t, and haven't decided if to get a bigger rear. I took it for a qick spin, and love it. Front wheel will lift easy with no clutch. The chain size/pattern is a 520. I think most go for a 10 tooth, 9 might be too small.

    200 Fork Oil

Just looked in my Clymer book and it says 7oz ( 207cc ) in each leg. That is for the 86-87 models .
  23. Found this. Thought it was quite funny. Maybe not to the parents.
  24. I,m also interested, Sounds like a hot product ! Please post pictures when you are done. Love my tlr, just needs to shed a few pounds.
  25. Marky, the TLR is a great bike. Probably one of the most competative twin shocks. There are some good aftermarket parts and parts for the motor are shared with quite a few honda models(xr, xl,cl and atvs). I just finished fixing up a tlr200 and love it. The torquey motor is great; It will tractor up the steepest hills without losing grip. Good choice!!!
