Even better - you can buy the winners bike at any round for the retail price of that model !!!
However the stuff Honda are / have developed in trials has been transferred into main stream production and the stuff they are doing with the twin spark set up to soften / increase combustion burn is pretty cutting edge - would we want to stop this ??
I agree polished things are pretty, but GasGas are obviously not interested in what things like that particular trivial item looks like and are more focused on winning.... which they did. If that turned up on a production bike it would be a bit of a poor showing but on a works bike ............ they probably have more important things to think about.
I imagine their professional pride was huge when they saw Fajardo and then Busto stood on the top step of the podium and knowing that they had beaten Honda [with all its polishing resources]with a bike with a piece of metal bar jammed in between the frame and the bash plate the equivalent of an extended middle finger.....
It’s not polishing it’s just doing things right and that’s not - it’s shoddy end off.
Its not a production bike its a works bike; so as long as they get the desired result there is no real advantage to them dressing it up to look pretty..
Have you not seen all the other factory bikes with automotive wheel weights stuck to the bash plates and secured with zip ties? High tech isn't really required. At one point they were using rebar on the TRS because, well, probably someone found it laying around..
Think you’ll remember that was a lash up as the bike had failed the other day. No excuse mind.
Maybe they should spend less on lunch and buy a set of scales and a file
we know the Honda is the most expensive bike but at least they make an effort?
The gasgas bash plate bends up at the rear .The spacer is put in to bring the bash plate down making it more flat ,So allowing the bike to slide over/off rocks and not catch dog bones guard/ mounting plates .which over hang frame
I'm sure if it was just a bash plate adjuster they would have a purpose made one for the works bikes - or just "adjust" a standard one to the preferred shape. If that is a "factory" mod to add weight you think they would of been a bit more professional and painted it or at least rounded of the edges on the ends etc. Looks very rough and ready - like something i'd do.
Used ATF in my 315 for years, putting up with clutch drag, till I took out 2 clutch springs and changed to Elf.
the results were amazing and my riding also got well, nearly amazing.
so in a real dilemma if I can't buy Elf here in Queensland anymore. Going to try Australia wide now.
Due to restrictions can't get it from overseas.
Have used it it in both 315 and 4rt with completely the opposite effect so maybe the Australian version has different additive packages to European spec -
With the ever increasing age of riders deep heat, raljex, santogen are more likley to be of use . - I hear radox are looking at sponsoring a p65 championship
Have heard there is a milk based drink that helps calm the body - think its marketed as Ovaltine
Trust me the 250 2 strokes of the top lads in trial 2 will be a lot more powerful than any 300 you’ve ever ridden, the montesas of Toby Martyn and Gabriel Marcelli are very trick, the frames have been altered and lightened , they run the same exhaust systems as bou and Fuji’s bikes amongst other things
Was studying Toby's bike at the St Davids BTC in April - non standard barrel - Think was S3 so presume bigger than std 300RR -as above full works exhaust - (a pre 2009 type silencer but bigger modified capacity) Footrest hangers - looked painted titanium etc different and simplified wiring etc . Sounded to have a lot of torque and Toby was riding it very well in the "traditional" type going. He was as good as anybody on the big muddy/rocky hill climb - flat out in 4th at the bottom. One thing we all noticed that he did have was the biggest smile of any of the riders there
One of the benefits of buying (Honda) Montesa is the documentation is the same as for a road bike - I have also found sometimes that genuine parts can be cheaper than after market parts - The Honda light trials chain fitted as standard is the best lasting chain ever and comes in the exact right length - used to be about £30 from Caroline Sandiford and comes in the Honda bag and everything as well - think more expensive now though.
Evidently Raga's mechanic does this as final preparation of Adams bike before every event so not a field trick but part of normal service and preparation - how it works mind is another matter-
Read it the other week, first class. I'm no big reader so the large print and pictures worked well for me. You think you know a bit about someone and a bit about trials then you realise you haven't a clue away from your own little world. Can't believe he didn't mention the time he met me in 2012 coming out of Tesco in Skipton.
he saving it for the film- let me know if you need a better looking stand in for your part
I think trials is such a confidence thing that anything that effects this has an adverse effect that is very hard to measure. His injury will have effected his physical and mental training this year and the injury must be in the back of his mind.
I'm sure some of the things we see him do on video etc is as much confidence building as it is practice. I also think it is physiological towards the other riders - when they get to master what he was doing last year he has a new trick to show off. Knowing Toni is a little on the back foot is also likely to increase the motivation/confidence of the other riders as well making it a bit of a double whammy
"When referencing motor oil weight, you are actually referring to the viscosity grade or the tendency of a liquid to flow slowly or quickly.
In regard to multigrade oils, the first number in the code, such as 10W in SAE 10W-30, means that the oil can still be pumped by the engine at a temperature as low as a single grade 10W oil. A 5W, like in SAE 5W-30, can be pumped at an even lower temperature, and a 0W, like in SAE 0W-30, will pump at the lowest tested temperatures. The W in the designation is commonly thought to represent weight, but in fact stands for Winter. The second number, 30, indicates how well the oil will flow when heated to 100C/212F or higher.
As engines have become more technologically advanced, engine clearance levels and viscosity grade recommendations may have been reduced, hence the reason your father swore by SAE 20W-50 and your engine calls for SAE 5W-30. If a thicker oil is used in some of todays high-tech, small clearance engines, oil pressure may increase, but the possibility of improper lubrication can result if the oil can not adequately flow through the engine."
so I guess the 10w 30 is slightly thinner at normal operating temps than the original specified 10w 40
Owners manual is a bit vague regarding running in and when to change the oil etc
"Operate the motorcycle for the first 20 minutes using not more than half throttle and shifting gears so that the engine does not lug"
In the maintenance schedule it says to replace engine oil and oil filter after the first break in period and also to check valve clearances too.
However I can't find any specification to the actual length of the break in period.
I rode mine on and off for approx 2hrs then changed engine oil, gearbox oil and oil filter
I did check the valve clearances after a few more hours running and was surprised to find that they were smaller than specified, which is the opposite of what I expected
As valves bed in to their seats I think you would expect clearance to close up??
Longer carbon fibre parts are available aftermarket that just bolt on.
I have made one from some ally tube cut in half - picked up on the rear hole for existing guard and then a spring clip (broom holder type clip) to keep it in position at the rear but you could maybe weld a nut onto the silencer clamp.
Cuts some slots in it in a similar style to existing steel guard and looked trick
I'm sure there is something in the manual but just don't rev it flat out or make it lug hard, Some nice gentle riding whilst building up the rev range is best.
