Could it possibly be that then it was more aspirational in that anybody watching could think "perhaps i could do that with a bit of practice" plus the spectators came because they felt they were watching something they could "communicate" with even appreciate the artistry involved. Now it's become a freak show practised by the outrageously gifted or just plain stupid. The artistry has gone to be replaced by the same ethos borne out by Evil Kinevil and look how that played out.
No stop is about giving trials back to the masses. I can understand some who grew up on the playstation and the X games throwing their toys out the pram and at every opportunity but unless Trials gets back to basics and enguages the man or woman in the street then it's going to die.
As i said before get rid of the minders ban the catchers and if they still want to ride as in the video let them do it, lets face it nobodys going to stop them, elsewhere.
Something had to be done and nobody else has put forward a workable alternative that took into account trying to make trials a mass participation sport again like it used to be. Who cares what the few can or want to do it's about getting trials back to the general public and getting them involved.

Micks feelings will be hurt
-
Just to get back to the topic. TY250 vs OSSA MAR
Now try to ignore the riders the Ossa is mine the Majesty sadly not.
-
Will try again and see if it works this time.
This bloke just grabbed me bike and rode off LOL Dont mind though he's a good mate.
-
Once you start the money pit genie is let loose.
Seriously good luck not trying to be over pessimistic but my gut feeling is they will try to make it soooooooo difficult that people will give up. Also now they know a plod presence is guaranteed.
I feel for you and am glad now we turned down the opportunity for a road trial.
-
I've tried to post piccys following andys instructions but cant seem to be able to. It's a conspiracy i say a conspiracy.
-
Might be worth trying Dave at In Motion. I've no connection other than being a satisfied customer.

But isnt this the sort of "section" that the no stop rule is trying to eliminate anyway? The reason there is all this "controversy" is because course setters dont seem to be able to grasp the simple concept that riding no stop requires different sections and a different skill set to riding stop allowed. If they bothered to set a trial correctly for no stop instead of being so tunnel visioned in the type of sections they lay out then it would be far safer and still take marks off riders.
It not about my gonads are bigger than your gonads it's about balance control and finesse. Trials was and can be such a beautiful sport. Poetry in motion, man and machine in perfect harmony not bung it in 3rd, scream the nuts off it and dump the clutch.
Ban the minders as well they only encourage stupid behaviour. If someone is prat enough to try "stuff" then thats their look out but not within the section markers.
I keep hearing that "we have to take marks off them" well i agree you do have to have a winner but i see this at every trial if you lay a section out correctly for no stop the bouncing berk with the on off switch for a throttle has a 3 or a 5 while the guy with "control" , remember that one, rides through for a seemingly effortless clean. Again poetry in motion.
You did say safety was your FIRST priority so why include ANY sections like this ?
-
Or is that the real intention ?We see so many instances of government by back door stealth nowadays that perhaps this is how they plan to start getting rid of those nasty, noisey, smelly motor bikes ruining "their" countryside ?
How many will be put off organising one now?
Nails in coffin ?
Makes you wonder?

Think std is 340mm but 360mm should also fit.
-
If they are selling them for £250 then as he always seems to just double the price of everything you should be able to source for £125 ish. Then again as you have already found out Montesa bits are all made in another universe not connected to this one. Lack of parts availability is why they are so cheap and very few people ride them cos they struggle to keep them running. Might be a better option to try and see if a piston from something else can be adapted to suit ? Wait till you need gearbox or kickstart shafts then the problems really start. Good luck with your search.

Teversal always was a horrible bog hole of a place. Knew Pete, Thomas and Nick very well after school and every weekend we all used to ride on the old tip at Sawley firstly on old road bikes then Trials bikes which led us into competition eventually. Those first TY A models were a revelation at the time. I couldnt believe what a step forward they were over what we had. However i've always had a soft spot for the MAR possibly as i've known Mick since the late 60's and had Chris Millners old Pennine which even with Micks help never got on with. Way too much of a monster that bike plus with all that fibreglass was BIG. When the MAR came along it was a revelation although i dearly would have loved Micks prototype OSSA which was a dream bike. They are both good bikes and i suppose it boils down to emotion at the end of the day.

OK got yer now. Just shows how even on a twinshock what some people are capable of. Shame the other 99% of us arent.
-
Nice write up. I remember riding Petes bike first time out when he brought it to Teversal for a shake down. OOOH i so wanted one. One of my OSSA's has a reed valve and a Phantom barrel. Mick rebuilt the motor and i love it runs right down to almost stall then right back up to rev out if youre man enough. I'm not LOL.

Dont think i want to. Whats a splat ?

Brakes on mine work fine, clutch also two finger light yes they are heavy but only compared to modern stuff or modern P65.Very few if any trials are won now or ever were by TY175 plus if they were / are so good why didnt the works riders use them ? same thing with the Fantic 200. Both are nice bikes if youre a small person but normal sized riders i.e. 13 stone + seem to prefer a bigger bike. Personally i find the TY175 and Fantic 200 gutless and need to be screemed all the while then again i'm 16 stone. Love my OSSA MAR but do find my James much easier to ride. Dont know or really care if it's quiet but never had any problems. Over here TY175 tends to be a Clubman or easy route bike with riders who progress up the scale opting for something bigger as they progress. Good starter bike though as is the Fantic 200.
Back on topic out of the crate would probably say the OSSA has it over the stock TY250 however a Majesty 320 would whup both of them but then again that wasnt the question either.
-
Dont get the relevance of the video theyre all on bloody push bikes ?
-
I vaz only following orders LOLOK then how about put up or shut up?
No stop is just another skill same as hop stop back up hop again balance in a JCB scoop hop back up etc etc etc
-
The AMCA as i understand it feel we dont need to get MSA authorisation so why do the ACU feel we do ?Anyway why cant you just hold the trial and let riders decide the route they will take and the order they attempt the section groups. Just sign on at the start, sign on at each group and sign off back at the finish. Seems that the route and route markings are whats causing the problem. ACU MSA whatever cant stop you riding a legal bike on the highway and the "Trial" will be decided on the scores in the sections so who cares how the rider got there any more than how they got to the trial or which route they took to get to the start.
As long as they sign off before an appointed time cant see there would then be anything "they" can do you for?
-
Or even the mere mortals LOL.
So why is he riding then? If he feels so strongly, "mafia" quote, he should surely show this by abstaining. If he continues to ride thats hypocracy surely ?

Unfortunately I have had to cancel the trial scheduled for this Sunday at Clifton as I have just spent over an hour and a half to get my van back up the access road which is like a skating rink with the road covered in ice and snow. This single track road will NOT be gritted by the council so will only get worse so that is why the trial has had to be cancelled. I really hate having to do this but it is beyond my control. I know you may look out your window and think it's not that bad and to be honest the main roads are clear but the single track road down to the venue is treacherous. The stream which is supposed to run under the road is blocked and is now running across the road and the whole road is now sheet ice. We will have to call the season complete at 11 rounds instead of the usual 12. Can i thank everybody who rode with us this season for their support and a special thank you must go out to all the observers who helped make the events so enjoyable. Last but by no means least thank you to the landowners for the use of their land without which we wouldnt have had any trials. The new season starts, weather permitting, at Dudwood farm on the 24th Feb with the presentation of last seasons awards at the Miners Standard afterwards so hopefully see you all there. Paul & Donna

just a thought why not swap the tyre from the Trifield over to the Fantic and the tyre off the Fantic onto the Trifield wheel then try and see if the problem follows the tyre or the wheel. OK i know it's a lot of hassle but i cant think of anything else to suggest.
-
Dont get why you would tap either. Personally i would and always do metricate as many fasteners engine mounts etc as possible as metric size fasteners are cheap and freely available. So whats the point of using imperial threads and spanners ?
