  1. I'm with Bigfoot, a terrific event ruined by the weather. Just getting up through the forest after the 2nd section on the second lap was an achievement, as well as getting away from section 6 back to the trail! Some brilliant sections, almost all of which hadn't been used before on the one day event in recent years. Big thanks to all involved, glad that those that stayed on had a good time at night.
  2. Thanks for that Littlestar, looks like it could be Party Central up there!
  3. Anyone got the regs yet for the Aberfeldy 2-day at the end of June? I'm waiting for a set to be faxed to my work, just wondered if anyone else had received them yet.
  4. Greg, I have a 125 4t which I fit with an 11 tooth engine sprocket for observing at the Scottish (using a 10t for trialling). Last year I followed round on the roads a bit, you can sit at about 45mph ( 70ish kph) no problem without revving the engine too hard. For a 32 mile road journey at more or less a constant 40-45 I only used 1.25 litres of petrol. A 12 tooth engine sprocket might be better for pure trail riding but I haven't been able to find one yet, and it might make it a bit too quick in bottom gear going through the nadgery. I reckon the long ride would make an ideal trail/trials bike. By the way, the '175' has a 143cc motor and the new 'TY200' has a 163cc motor. I see the Japanese ace Takumi Narita is taking the 160 round the Scottish this year, in 2003 he and Martin Crosswaite were both in the top 30 at the SSDT on the 4t's, Crosser on the 125 and Narita on a 143. You don't get more of a trail/trials/road mix than the SSDT.
  5. My mate has just got a Sherco 290 but when he tried to put it on his existing bike insurance with Carole Nash, they couldn't do it as they said the bike is not on their system. Anyone out there with a Sherco insured through CN?. Did you have similar problems?. When I insured my Scorpa 125 with them the same thing happened but they got round by rating it as a Honda MTX125. Thanks for any info, C
  6. Thanks for doing that Andy, I was a bit concerned about the directions appearing on the web for the very reasons mentioned. I passed there a couple of days ago and noticed that it looks like some neds have burnt the roof off the derelict house at the entrance to the quarry, no doubt we are getting the blame for that as well as the ongoing fly tipping which seems to be a bit of a problem at the lay-bys on the access road. As Hughesy said in another post there are dog walkers, horse riders etc who use the quarry also, if you give them the time of day and chat to them it keeps everyone 'on side'. It's the nutters tanking through the woods at the back that are a menace, fortunately they're rare up there. Re the bings, don't go up on your own, there's a real ned element around up there, not unknown for people to get mugged for their bike, happened to an aquaintence at Winchburgh bing a couple of years ago.
  7. I use full choke, don't touch throttle when starting. Normally starts with about 2 or 3 prods, can be about a dozen if it's not seen the light of day for a couple of months Takes an age to warm up compared to the 2 strokes, if you touch the throttle before it's warmed up without the choke on it dies.
  8. Thanks to everyone at the Perth and District Club for a brilliant trial, those who didn't go missed one of the best runs round (11 miles)of any National in Scotland. Entry seemed a bit low, possibly due to Schoolboy National near Edinburgh on same day.
  9. When I spoke to the mechanic at Birketts about why to leave the 2 end restrictors in, he said he has found that the small increase in back pressure helps with the engine braking, i.e., it doesn't roll on so much when you shut the throttle. Incidentally, when I opened mine up (2 yr old), the inner tube was totally rotted at the inlet end, made a new one from stainless perforated tube. Regarding sprockets, I have a 10 tooth on the engine as I find it too quick in first with the 11 tooth / my duff riding mix. If I remember right I read on here that top North East teen Dale Robson uses a 10 tooth engine sprocket as well.
  10. The gearing on the Scorpa 125 is 10/57 with an 18" back tyre (some have 11/57 but it makes it a bit lively in first). Not sure about the flywheel. Total weight around 75kg, lighter than a Rev 3. What's the standard TTR gearing?
  11. 18 started the 2005 SSDT, 18 finished... I think that says it all. Only real problems were about 10 of them splitting the exhaust centre box and a couple overheating, probably due to hammering them on the roads with blocked radiator fins (i.e.mud). In SSDT 2004 a guy came in with a petrol tank broken into a few pieces. Difficult one to overcome out on the hills!
  12. Thanks for the map Boofont, see you there
  13. Thanks Dan G, I'll be there on my Scorpa 125 with my mate on his BSA C15
  14. Anyone know how far lay-by 125 is South of Aviemore? Also, on the regs it says 'No fuel at start'. Does that mean no filling up of tanks at the parking area, or that there aren't any petrol stations in the vicinity?. Thanks, Craig
  15. What date is the Scott this year?
  16. What gearbox sprocket are you guys on?. I bought mine with a 10 tooth on, then fitted the standard 11 tooth for observing at the Scottish but found it to be a bit quick in 1st for my mediocre skills in the sections. The clutch on mine has been modded (by the previous owner) by lengthening the acuating arm on the engine by about 10mm, changing the cable angle to suit and shortening the pushrod to take account of the increased travel. I reckon its a smoother clutch than my Rev 3. He also tried fitting the 17.5 pilot jet but couldn't get it to run right. I checked it out and the jet he had been given was bigger in diameter than the correct one, 2.5mm as opposed to 2mm, and it had distorted trying to fit it.
  17. Thanks JGH, Jean sending the regs out.
  18. The SACU have 3 classes of Adult, Novice, Non-Expert and Expert. A Non-Expert is someone who has won on the B (easy) route at a SACU National I think. The emphasis of the weekend is fun, its put forward as much a social event as a trial. All classes are catered for, as far as I recall on the regs the experts ride on a no award basis. I am pretty sure that you can ride whatever bike you want in your class, give Doreen a ring to confirm that, her tel. no is in the TMX regs column. The camp site at Craignure is just down the road from the ferry, they have erected 'Shielings' that you can hire, like large family tents with rooms. See their web site http://www.shielingholidays.co.uk/ There is a pub very close by. The cheapest way is to go over the Corran Ferry (8 miles before Fort William, 5 min crossing), then down to Lochaline where the ferry takes you to Fishnish on Mull (abt 20 min crossing) Details, prices etc. from the Calmac web site, here http://www.calmac.co.uk/summer-mull-timetable.html No need to book either of these ferries, you just turn up. Its not far from Fishnish to Craignure, Mull's not that big a place
  19. Anyone know when the regs are coming out for the Perth & DMC National at Aberfeldy, 19 June?. This was the best trial I rode last year, 10 mile lap, brilliant sections, lap, organisation.
  20. I have a 2002 200cc. Had to renew the CDI when it was about 14 months old (

They have the Hebo 1.1 litre tank on the Scottish Trial web site. Postage is dear if you only get one, but if enough people wanted one they would work out about
  23. There's usually a trial on that Sunday on the B road between Lauder and Stow, organised by the Edinburgh St.George Club. Observers are always welcome..... Alternatively, check out the SACU calendar, http://www.sacu.co.uk/eventsdiary.htm
  24. Thanks very much for that lads, I'd already boxed it up when I noticed that the gasket has 2 larger cooling water holes on the side opposite the tab. All the best for the New Year, C
