  1. Just check this out, makes the goat tracks at the SSDT seem like motorways... http://www.snotr.com/video/4016
  2. Bit off topic here, but at £43 for an SACU trials licence even if you just want to ride one national, where's the attraction for occasional riders such as myself? Maybes if the licence was a bit cheaper more of us would get one instead of just going to AMCA events. Not getting on at anyone, just my tuppence worth...
  3. Depends, but from memory more or less about 20 miles, less I think if there's a long moor crossing like on Saturday from Blackwater Dam round to Bradelaig (15 miles-ish) but more if it's on the road, like from Fort William down to Chairlift (25 miles-ish). At least 5 fuel stops a day, maxmum mileage on the longest day is about 130 miles I think.
  4. The Hebo auxy tank empties first as the fuel in it gets drawn into the normal fuel tank by the vacuum created by the fuel gravitating into the carb. Despite the weight penalty MexMex, it's probably best to just get used to the bike with the Hebo tank fitted as sometimes the sections are close to the fuelling points so you'll be riding them with the auxy tank full. If you were only thinking of carrying 500ml, why not just half-fill the Hebo tank at the fuel checks instead of filling it completely. Or don't fit the Hebo tank and just rely on the kindness of others if you run out... . What it will give you is peace of mind for if you get lost, miss a flag on the moor and have to backtrack to the route, have a big off on the moor and lose some fuel, melt through the petrol pipe because you've roasted the engine and the pipe is touching the back of the cylinder (yes I did see that last year on a Beta Evo), the list goes on. Anyway, seems like folks are going on like they just give you a dash of fuel at the checks and you'll more than likely run out...it's just not like that!! The club don't want to be having to go out looking for folks run out of petrol here there and everywhere, that would be a nightmare. Can I just ask why it is that the club are called upon to justify every rule in the regs (yes you know who you are)? Everyone knows the rules when they send in their entries, if they're not happy about whatever, let someone else take their place! That goes for the p65 as well, remember everyone involved is giving up their own time at their own expense to run these events. Mini rant over. ¡Vivan los 6 Dias!
  5. Came across these by chance, not sure if they're mono or twinshock parts but might be cheap for someone http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/YAMAHA-TY250-RINGS-HEAD-BASE-GASKET-GENUINE-TY-250-/220741238789?pt=UK_Motorcycle_Parts&hash=item3365340005
  6. Is this eligible for the Scottish then?? http://www.gumtree.com/london/05/73314705.html
  7. Check out this vid of the '67 Scottish, at about 2mins see the riders coming down the step on the Blackwater Path, before the catcher rail was fitted. Scary!! Not sure where the link has gone to but search on you tube for yorickthetog
  8. Laia has won the best female award, finishing 39th out of 95 bike finishers, with adopted british aussie Simon Pavey getting a finish in 71st posn. Been following it on aussie tv, http://www.sbs.com.au/dakar/ , check out the speed through the mud on stage 12, awesome
  9. Yes, thanks Ross. I've bored out a set of XL casings to take a 185 barrel but run into troubles with the oil gallery, http://www.thumpertalk.com/forum/showthread.php?t=945828 Not insurmountable, I'll take it down to Sammy that advertises in the SCRMC mag, he does ally welding day in day out. Failing that I might put an external oil feed on it and blank off the gallery. I was going to use epoxy steel but I'm not a great fan of it, Craig
  10. Alluded to in a previous post, maybe slipped by some others as she's using her full name http://www.dakar.com/dakar/2011/us/rider/044.html Doing good as well, must be hard as nails
  11. Thanks for that Max, I actually meant the 'Sammy Miller' 150 kit as opposed to boring your own
  12. Hi all, Just wondering what thickness the liner spigot has on the 150 kit. If it fits without boring the cases then it must be thin as a 63mm bore with the TL's 49.5mm stroke gives about 154cc. I measured the casing bore on an XL to be 63.6mm. Any ideas what the bore and the outside spigot size are on the kits? Do you have to bore the cases? Thanks, Craig
  13. The XL head has a combustion chamber volume of 15cc (measured by myself) as compared to 12cc (from info on the net) for the TL. If you fitted the XL head with the standard TL dished piston (the XL has a domed piston) the comp ratio would go down by about 1.5 points. The TL has a low ratio to start with so I think it would make it too flat. And as mentioned, bigger valves also rob the engine of low down torque.

    2011 event

MexMex, check out the Newcomer's guide, it explains all you're asking about. There's a link on this page http://www.ssdt.org/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=21:2010-ssdt-entries-open&catid=1:news&Itemid=14 You're not allowed to have a friend ride round with you unless he is also riding the trial, Suerte, Craig

    TL125/150 swap

Thanks for that Bunyan, I'll check that out when I next open the CB 122 motor in my XL. Just checked here http://www.powersportspro.com/pages/parts/viewbybrand/7/Honda.aspx, the part nos. are different for the cases on the TL from the CB / XL 122cc models. Some good stuff here http://www.users.globalnet.co.uk/~worsfold/TLpage1.htm

    TL125/150 swap

Yes it's do-able, but watch out for the following: The 122 had a one piece head with a 100 link cam chain and 'longer' tensioner blades as the centre line of the camshaft is higher than on the 2-piece head which was fitted to the 124 engine. The 2pc head 124 engine had a 98 link cam chain and 'shorter' tensioner blades. I'd be tempted to just swap the head, barrel and piston complete with the cam chain and tensioner blades from the 150 onto the 122. If you just swap the barrel and piston you'd have to check the piston to valve clearance to be sure that there's no danger of valve to piston contact with the different head. Also the combustion chamber on the 122 head is quite small (never seen a TL 2pc head so don't know if it is also small) so it may push the compression ratio too high with the 150 piston. Might be worth checking that there's not a wear ridge at the top of the 150 barrel as the top of the stroke on the 122 engine may be in a very slightly different place due to production tolerances on the crank and casings. Easy enough to check the piston 'deck' height before you remove it from the 124 against the height when fitted to the 122. Your piston rings wouldn't thank you for clattering into a ridge several thousand times a minute.
  17. Check this out, looks like an early TY Mono converted to twinshock with a Honda CG125 motor http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=230544221975&ru=http%3A%2F%2Fshop.ebay.co.uk%3A80%2F%3F_from%3DR40%26_trksid%3Dp3984.m570.l1313%26_nkw%3D230544221975%26_sacat%3DSee-All-Categories%26_fvi%3D1&_rdc=1
  18. Whatever the cause, the fact that the no.1 Beta Works rider's bike has let him down again has to be a total embarrasment to Beta. Not exactly inspiring for the potential customer.
  19. If you can, turn the bike totally upside down. Big John told me that one a few years ago and I can confirm that it stops the engine very quickly! I've not had great results trying to choke the exhaust, apart from a burnt hand. Pulling the plug cap doesn't usually work either as the bike is basically running like a diesel by compression ignition. If you can't get it upside down then trying to stall it is probably your best bet. Oddly, never had or seen it happen on a 4 stroke, maybe not got a high enough comp ratio.

  21. Looks more supermoto than trialler with that titchy front wheel...
  22. Not sure I'd want the one that stopped at the ferry time control on Friday. He'd boiled it up on the road and it had got so hot that the petrol pipe had melted through where it was touching the barrel. That sorted out, he fired it up and water was peeing out of the head. That tightened down, leaking from the radiator hoses. Finally sorted and on his way. He told me next day that the water pump impeller had basically dissolved with the heat and wasn't pumping. Reckoned that it had started when he roasted it after the thermostatic switch had packed in on the Wednesday. I'd buy a Mont 4t after the Scottish, but anything else?? BTW, if you're offered a bike with a section of purple petrol hose between the tap and filter, steer clear!!
  23. Loads of Youtube stuff, like this , impressive!
