  1. See no.278, long time Spanish rider Carlos Casas looks like he's out. Not sure he's not finished before in 25-odd years.
  2. Maybe picked up a 5 for not being able to start the bike within the given minute at the Parc Ferme. Think that's normally shown in column 32.
  3. He he, fair comments Mairi and Ishy, didn't think about the fact that those potential delays were already factored in. Tough day then for some top names, must have been fun for the clubmen trying to hurry across Clunes moor to limit their losses. Throws the trial wide open now. Craig
  4. Seems harsh to lose a valuable chunk of time for something totally outwith your own control. If that is the case then maybes the club will look into it and factor in an allowance, given that a lot of the entry lost quite a bit of time. Some of the clubmen were outwith the 60mins allowance so will now be riding for no award, that's got to be a downer so early in the week.
  5. Not sure why the link's not clickable but hey-ho!
  6. LDT style event in the Durham Dales, for cars and bikes so no over the top stuff. http://www.durhamdalesclassictrial.co.uk/#!downloads/c188k
  7. ..good advice from Greg, also best to punch the holes before you cut the final shape otherwise they tend to split at the holes. Usually when you're punching the last one...
  8. You might need to cut the valve pockets deeper, you'd need to box it up and check the clearance to the new piston as it goes over tdc on the valve overlap to be certain. I do it with a clock gauge on the spring cap and a tool to push down the rocker arm but you need to lock the engine as the crank will move when you take the weight off the camshaft. The valves are closest to the piston at about 5 to 10 degrees either side of TDC. You might also run into problems with the compression ratio as the original 1 PC TL head has a very small combustion chamber and dished piston. It's not an easy problem to overcome as you can only raise the barrel about 0.5mm without the cam chain becoming too tight. Maybe someone else can tell us if the SM 61mm pistons were dished. Doing your own big bore is never straight forward, that's why a lot of folks prefer to buy a kit, hopefully then someone's worked it all out for you...
  9. Good to see they've got a round up at Newcastleton in August for us northern types as well
  10. Forgot the link. http://www.kaila.net/tl125/
  11. Tons of info here, especially the FAQs. CB550 piston at 58.5mm will give you 135cc with decent liner thickness, the 150 kits use a 61mm piston which will leave you with a liner 0.7mm thick. Plenty of folks have fitted the Sammy Miller kit over the years without problems so you pays your money and takes your choice...
  12. Proper hard men, riding up from Edinburgh in the snow with wax jackets and bobble hats on. They don't make 'em like they used to...
  13. Try hammering the head of the sump plug first, that usually crushes the washer slightly and so reduces the load on the threads. A few sharp blows are usually enough.
  14. I was loaned one of these for a 3 day event, really soft and grippy off the bottom but with an enduro-style power band, great fun on the trail.
  15. Yes but if the shocks are longer you're effectively raising the height of the of the rear part of the frame in relation to the swingarm, lifting the position of the swingarm pivot and so steepening the angle. As regards the engine oil I wouldn't fret too much about it, any branded 20/50 would do, it's more important to change it often than spend a fortune on the stuff. If you're running it in with new rings go for mineral but otherwise whatever you can get your hands on locally at a good price. Bear in mind that there's barely any stress on a trials engine compared to a road bike which runs for hours on end at much higher revs. As for volume, no idea but I'd probably fill the top tube till I could just see the level when it's warm, you only need to leave a bit of room for expansion / foaming. You need to be able to see the level so you know when it's using any. Smart looking bike by the way. Craig
  16. I tried putting 400mm shocks in place of 360s on my early Honda XL, it made the back end stand up like 'crosser and moved the chain too close to the swing arm due to the steepened angle. I'd say it's a no-go, too big a difference.
  17. EHIC card for basic EU hospital cover. EU breakdown cover for the van. Travel insurance that covers riding bikes over 125cc (a lot of them specifically exclude that and riding in competitions). When I rode Aveyron with 'Chewy' in '09 his mate had a bad off on the trail and got hit with a 400 odd Euro bill for the ambulance, not sure if he managed to claim it back.
  18. I was manning the time control at the SSDT Corran ferry a number of years back when I got chatting to a French spectator who was telling me how much he loved Scotland and coming over for the event. After a bit I said to him 'so you've been over here before then?', to which he replied 'yes, I won it 3 times'. It was only then I looked at him properly that I realised it was Thierry Michaud - cue red face....
  19. Breagh's club website with links to the others, no licence required for AMCA events, great friendly bunch. http://eastneukwobblers.webeden.co.uk Also Google East Neuk Wobblers on YouTube There's also the SACU clubs, the Lanark MCC have good trials ground along the Carron Valley just up the road from you ¡
  20. The pin is normally limited in it's side travel once the float chamber is fitted, that way it can't come out

    Vertigo Launch

I see Todotrial are linking James Dabill to a WTC ride on the Vertigo next year http://todotrial.com/en/news/short-news/item/2860-vertigo-podria-debutar-en-el-mundial-2015-con-james-dabill.html#.VGHJK9ogGSN

    Vertigo Launch

Vertigo head honcho Manel Jané is a long time SSDT competitor, he's also been round the pre65 a number of times so he knows how important reliability is. I'm not a fan of complexity, my techno progression has stopped at air cooled bikes so all the electronics fill me with horror. I'm sure that the SSDT will find any faults the bike may have but it can also put a nail in the coffin lid of nascent projects, remember the recent Greeves or the Sherco 4t (which IIRC Manel rode round that first year). Anyways, let's wish the man all the best for having the cojones to sink a considerable amount of his own cash into the project, he can always go back to his family business of 'carros' http://www.jane.es if it all goes pear shaped...
  23. The Michaud situation? Dis-nous-en plus Andy!
