  1. What would it take to "upgrade" a 125 to say a 143 or 165? Is there much other difference than cubic cm
  2. We have had so much success with the "adult" bike that we have decided to get a kids bike as well. Like you guessed, we charge about 5 pounds for an afternoons use, Mentioning to them that if they cause major damage they will cover that seperatly, so far we haven
  3. Yeah I remember the TY80 from way back when, Unfortunatly I think it would be a bit old for a club bike, Otherwise ideal, As i remember they were are tough as hell.
  4. Our club has decided to buy a bike so that the kids that show interest can have a go. The idea is that they can borrow it 3 times, after that they should have an idea if they will pester Dad to death for thier own bike or take up stamp collecting, But: WHICH BIKE SHOULD WE BUY? The choices are: A) mini trials with 14 to 15 inch wheels or B ) 3/4 size bikes with 17 to 18 inch wheels or perhaps C) something with a smaller frame but full size wheels Which model do you feel is the best for the most kids. Remember this bike wont be a compition bike but something to give them a qualified introduction to Trials, but them again some of them may never have ridden a bike before! I look forward to your opionions. Gregg from www.Trialsklubben.dk
  5. If you are a cheap ass, like me, you can find a long bolt which head fits, bend it 90 degrees with a vise and hammer. There you
  6. Interesting reading, Has anyone rode both the 250f and the 200? How do they compare? I was contemplating getting the 250 but this thread has gotten me interested in the 200/175 also if you give a comment could you include your weight and riding level.
  7. Now I dont know where you are, but here in Denmark I would suggest that you find a trials klub and the rest will fall into place. Training; Concentrate on the basics of learning to balance, turn correctly (also on slopes) and how to pressure the rear to get that sudden grip/acceleration. Then just practice with the lads in your club. Practicing within markers or "tape" is a great help. good luck. check this link http://www.trialstrainingcenter.com/html/how_to_ride.html
  8. I know the problem, our club bike (used for introducing newcomers to the sport) is a Gas Gas, now renamed Fix Fix. I think its either Scorpa SY250R or Honda 315 if reliability is important (only talking 2 stroke here) The SY has by far a more modern feel to it. Shercos tend to be lousy on the steep stuff and they are plain ol ugly, good ol Betas have an annoying kickstarter on the wrong side.

  10. Heres a tip that could save the day, especially if your in the middle of a trial; If the tank springs a leak then rub some soap into the hole (bar soap), it will harden when in contact with the petrol and seal the hole, not a permanent solution but it will get you home.
  11. Now that sounds tedious, why not just get a whopping great syringe from the chemist, fill it with brake fluid, stick it on the loosened nipple and blow that sucker backwards, 2 minutes work and the system is flushed and airfree. believe me its 10 times easier and faster than all that fiddly bleeding. And remember, the air bubbles like to go UP! Remember to drain off the at the top not to get fluid everywhere.
  12. if there is water in the float bowl then it wont help to turn off the fuel and run it dry. But should you find an engine that can run on water could you please let me be the first to know?
  13. You mentioned that the engine is a tad noisy, Scorpas do whine, its due to straight cut primary drive gears - less power consuming but noisier that angel cut. They sound a bit like a vacume cleaner, My mates are always telling me to change the bag! The Scorpa engine is pretty bulletproof but if someone hasnt serviced the air cleaner it could have a worn piston, check the inside of the airbox for grit, if its gritty - worry! Do you have the float bowl mod? or are you seeking one? Its a pain to drain the carb so I usually do it by tipping the bike on its side.
  14. Jep same bottle (different ratio; 65 cl to 5 liters) Hey Slack, Did you stop yer smoking?

    Overheating!

"A pine needle?........A pine needle??!! ..how did that get in there? I think we should start a competion to see who has found the largest piece of debris in their carb'." Well I didnt find anything in my carb! The mouse must have acted like a brush and cleaned it through nicely! The little bugger chewed through the air cleaner and dropped into the airbox. I did have trouble starting and after running roughly for five minutes it cleared up. I decided to do a check and found a typical 4x4 cm large mouse hole in the air cleaner.

    Overheating!

Are your symptoms; heat or blowing out of excess coolant? does your fan start running, How do you ride? is the engine sounding normal? (like a vacume cleaner is usual for scorpas due to the straight cut primary drive gear) are your brakes sticking?
  17. Its the two sided oil seal behind the clutch which seals around the crankshaft between the gearbox and the crankcase. I use elf at 65cl to 5 liters. I suppose any LOW performance 2 stroke oil would be fine though, like outboard motor oil. I think that the "what 2 stroke oil" debat can be a bit nerdish. Its Japanese for heavens sake, it will run virtually forever on anything.
  18. Had the same problem on my 02 SY250R. The smoke was gearbox oil getting through the seal behind the clutch. Its a pretty easy job to replace, Just lay the bike over, off with the sidecover and clutch, then change the seal. Of course you should change the oil at the same time. The seal is rather special being double sided, so check which way round the old one sits when you pull it out. Good luck.

    Oil Problem

If its water in the oil then the oil should whip up a nice white colour. Of course draining off the oil should reveal any water in the bottom of the crankcase.
  20. Buy a can of "brake cleaner". Spray/clean the pads and the disk and wipe off with a rag. Wash both disk and pads with warm soapy water (this is important as otherwise they wont grip properly) sand the pads lightly with fine wet and dry paper and reassemble. A tad og copper grease on the slave cylinder might be a nice detail. Off course if the cause of the poor braking is a leaky fork seal them get that fixed first.
  21. Its probably not a good idea to just bleed the slave. Getting to it is such a hassle that you shoud give irt a rep kit and change the oil at the same time. To get to it you have to remove; rear mudguard, rear subframe, air box, shocker, muffler, center pot and carb!
  22. I have a 03 scorpa which I bought used but in Mint condition. I love it. I have had a problem with the seal behind the clutch leaking oil into the crankcase. It was easy and strait forward to fix. Not like changing the clutch slave cylinder last week; off with the rear sub frame, air box, muffler, center pot and carb ! hope its three years before I have to do that again. Draining the carb is also pain so I have drilled a small drain hole in the airbox. The Scorpa is a dream to ride, you have to ride the clutch a little more than most other bikes at low revs but when you give it the gas it climbs LOOOOOONG steep hills like a goat on coke. I borrowed a Sherco 290 for a trial several weeks ago and although it was a very easy bike to ride it didnt have the performance of the Scorpa. If I was to buy a new bike tomorrow, Definately another Scorpa, maybe even a 4 stroker.
  23. That dosent sound like a very good idea! I cant imagine that Scorpa would drop such a great model as the SY250, If they do I will be trading my 03 in for one of the last ones.
  24. My otherwise throughly reliable 02 Scorpa SY 250 R needs new seals so Im presently riding borrowed bikes; a 320 GG and a 290 Sherco. The Sherco feels lovely until it sees a hill, I just cant seem to steer it on the slopes and to keep the front down requires absolute accurate clutch control. The GG feels a bit like a tractor, sure it rides nice but I miss the precision of my Scorpa. Im definatly not a Yamaha fan, but if I switched bikes tomorrow I would definatly get another SY 250.
