  1. unless you are throwing it away on regular basis i would avoid bar ends, the feel of them on the throttle side is annoying and just lets dirt in anyway/ when washing water and so on.

i know the gas in the usa is different so get someone who knows to set up carb, we always go to a 3 slide.

definately go down one tooth on front sprocket, it makes 1st better in stream sections and means you can leave the clutch alone a bit more and concentrate on riding the thing.

What was the section time limit back then? I seem to remember 1.5 minutes but may be way out.

1 minute seems an expensive event. 3 laps of 15. 45 minutes riding time per event.

yes 1 min 30 seconds but setion length at btc less than wtc. again i hope that someone can take an overview and look at time factor vs, section length and severity and make sure it works as it should.

Yes bikes have got better over the years .BUT sorry the standard of ridding has fallen

Very few riders even at world round can get the most out of the bike, the problem is not the bikes its the sections too tight and technical for non stop ,but with hop and stop no

turn will be too tight next gripe will be the sections are too long for the time limit !

Ive been watching BTC on y tube and i can see fully why they have gone stop allowed, turns far to tight so most are ridden stop and hop

the rule change all this is doing is playing into the top riders hands as they can hop around easy now ,so its giving them more of a advantage

Is the only  change needed  is  give the observer a score card and do away with punch cards only he/ she knows whats score is given with no fear of aggro from riders /minders like now with punch cards

you dont think that Adam and Toni are the best riders ever in tackling the hardest sections ever?

Certainly worth a try as no stop at top level wasn't too good.

But going off entry levels was no-stop a bad move?.

I think entry levels have been overall better than the previous rules?

The concern for the new rules is perhaps 1 minute isn't enough. It may lead to rushing the last bit of the hazard and the lower routes havn't got a minder to catch for them either.

No doubt there will be plenty of arguments that the front spindle was out just as the whistle is blown and joe blogs got an extra second because he knows the observer!?

Anyway not my problem so I leave it to the ones onvolved?

automatic timing no whistle, but yes judgement if spindle is out. At world level a few years back i mustve watch hundreds of section attempts but judgement on was it out or not maybe a couple of times.

I was looking for a 250 but found a deal too good to pass on for a new TXT 280 racing.
While I am new to trials, I have ridden them before and am not too worried about it. I used to have a old Sherco 290 that was a roach but I never took it very serious.

I am not new to general off road riding and race enduros, including a few hard enduros here in the states in the A class/expert (don't know if that helps or hurts me in trials). I would think there are ways to tame it down a little if needed - FW weight, head squish, ride in rain mode/ignition settings, jet it rich?? Those ideas work for off road bikes but I do not use them.

trials bikes are different, if you are riding trials avoid the "taming down a bike scenario" if you can, many have tried it rarely works.

Would there be any reason to not buy a new GG trials bike in regards to this KTM deal? I am here in the US and am looking at a new TXT 280 and am apprehensive about GG because of potential parts availability.
    What do others think?

    Absolutely dont hesitate.

I would buy a 250 unless you are a top expert.

All parts are available now and will generate income for ktm so wont be an issue, piston kits are out sourced anyway so youll be fine.

Yea trials in Spain/France are different to over here. Generally speaking the events are fewer and far between and just simply a bigger event. More expensive to enter which therefore covers sausages and red wine at the half way point, tape to mark sections out and now that trialgo software that the Comas uses (and other stuff obvs)

Be good to see trialgo being used a big events over here like Richmond 3 day, S3 rounds... etc.

I think signal may be a problem with 3 day, possibly s3 too.

I too am very impressed by such systems but am also a little concerned about the current obsession with instant results. As many of you know I do the results for the Lakes 2 Day and am really proud that myself and a couple of helpers can produce results for 180 riders over 2 days and 80 sections within a few minutes of the last card being handed in.The problem is when we get to club and regional level when one club official has spent all day taking the entries, possibly even helped to mark out and then they are expected to magically produce results before tea time and if they don't they are then subject to dogs abuse on social media, this is not good.

Riders are very keen to praise these electronic systems which I repeat are absolutely brilliant but they come at a cost. They are also happy to praise continental federations and organisers for using such systems but would be quick to berate the ACU or clubs if the entries went up by a couple of quid to pay for such like, it's a question of balance

It was the simplisity (sp?) of the system and the efficient way it worked that would be ideal for BTC or WTC i was in no way advocating its widespread usage at ACU events.

In clarification its a great system that probably needs a phone signal and would be an excellent alternative to punchcards and would once set up avoid extra work.

Personally i didnt look at the results instantly as i had lost so many marks it was the system that seemed to offer a fair alternative, nothing more. I actually used it to locate a mates location behind me on the lap.

If entries went up a few quid i wouldnt complain and am a supporter of the ACU 100%. It should be noted that i also support a rise in Trial registration fees so the acu can compete with contintental federations possibly in this way and any others we should be.

    Said this for years it's the bikes that need limited not more rules;

Stick a 3.50 back tyre on and no one will be keen to stop.

Still riding with the same size tyre as my dad did on his Gold Star BSA weighing 400lb and 5 inches of ground clearance.

Sammy Millers said this for years (not the bit about my dad) but what would he know.

    Sammy's not right here.

Practically it's a non starter, to limit tyres would be impossible now, and I'm not sure there would ever be a consensus to do it.

Stopping is not related to tyre design either.

  10. Having ridden in the Costa Brava 2 day trial again this year, a great event, I was very impressed with the results system. Each bike had a "transponder" and score was entered at the end of the section, much the same as punch cards.

This was then sent to central score system.

    Instant results!
