"Going backwards while footing is a five"  still going to be a split / millisecond decision where the better riders get the benefit of the doubt.

How do you score rocking on the sump guard and using the boot toes to regain forward motion ?

    Is stopped with a food down a 1 or a 5 ?

footing and going back is the easiest judgement call

toes are dabs, always have been except indoors

    stopped with foot down 1

Correct me if I’m wrong but wiggy rode the trial 2 class in 2007 on that screaming 125 he won the championship with the year before ? If he did finish second that year then that was one hell of a result , I’m assuming he was too young to ride a full cc bike that year?

Exactly, until the rules were changed to suit the Spanish rider a certain pol tarres.....

Probably not as good as Bou's... Oh yeah thats right, he never even bothered riding trial2, straight to GP!!!!!

Rules were different then, and no one will ever be as good as bou, he was is exceptional.

First year of trial2/junior was 2000, Raga won it. Bou rode the european youth class 2001, 2002, then went straight to GP for 03 at 16 years of age, rode the whole season (bar japan i think) and had a few top 10s

He could ride a 300 at 16 and had a different choice, back then there was little or no prestige in the Junior world championship, it wast an u23 championship till a few years later, and i think it wasnt even a world championship when Bou elected to by pass, so not such a tricky decision.

Different times as sections in 03 (16 years ago) were alot easier on the top route.

I cant really remember back that far for details, but when youre that close to winning, ie two consecutive 2nds, i just think you have to think bigger at that age and do what's best for rider development.

2007 he was second to MB, don't think he could have done much different. There wasn't that much to choose between them at times yet MB was capable of moving up, but AW stayed down. 2008 i think 50/50, he was capable of moving up but ok, stay down and win it and then move up. 2008 came and he finished second to Gubian i think. Gubian then moved up, who AW had beaten in 2007 and yet AW still stayed down while beyond doubt capable of moving up. 2009 i think he should have cut his losses and forgot about trial2. When 2010 came, there were then 2 riders that he had previously beaten between him and MB

I can kind of see TM doing the same. He may try to stay down for 2020 and then someone like gelabert might win it.

But hey, im on the outside looking in, i don't know 10% of what was or is going on in both riders cases

Its a shame you cant remember because the first second in 2007 was probaly the best performance ever by anyone at junior or T2 level, fyi.

2008 was possibly a mistake, with 20/20 hindsight, a poor choice to change machines at a crucial time.

My point is its easy (as you have) to look at results and think you know.

Had he been spanish like pol tarres or laia sanz and had the rules changed to suit who knows what might have been, or not.

Yes and Alexz had spent 3 years in the junior class to get the win. Think it was too long.

So what did you think of his performance in 2007, what could he have done differently?

Should he have gone to top route in 08?

Think that WTC has become too hard and dangerous for all but a few that have the ability/backing/bravery.You either get up a big step or come crashing back down, too many of the sections are like this.WTC needs a rethink,it's not going the right way

That was the whole point of no stop though, wasnt it????

You should be asking Michaud why its not been the success he thought it would be and how it has prolonged the careers of the spanish lads and not inceased participation one jot?

However I would say if the severity were changed who specifically would you think it would attract to ride the top route?

I think that certain someone who came very close to winning Trial2 last year should have made the leap. His performances in BTC against fellow TrialGP competitors hints he his capable. No doubt after his performance this year he will stay down another year and perhaps his performance this year justifies he's not yet capable to move up. Its hard to know, i just feel you have to keep pushing yourself at that young age and take risks. and another 2 years in trial2 could hinder him. You will probably disagree with me here, heck sometimes i disagree with myself too.

    I couldnt agree more.

2009 Final championship results shows that the junior (T2) went to Alex Wigg by a small margin from Alfredo Gomez. (What it doesnt say was he rode the last two rounds on the top WTC route)

He couldnt get there soon enough. A few even went up without winning the lower championship, a certain Graterola did before he went pot hunting.....

I know, I thought that, but it was as clear cut as slow throttle...bog...quick no bog. I gonna swop back to see...the bikes haunted !!

if you are trying to eliminate the throttle just remove cable and pull that.

Regardless if you are encountering a carb problem best to strip carb and clean just to be sure.

    Kehein?

if possible ride with a fast tube.

I find with a mont wheel, X light and Tyre soap they pop on without a beader - even when new. But I have been doing it a fair while and probably got the knack. A beader is a 100% option

Always take the valve out to inflate

its when new you really need a beader.

    Nigel,

I believe they use trial bicycle tires but have not looked yet.

Still no responses to my original question so next time I am in CA I am going to cut the bottom sping retainer off and see what happens....... fortunately we have fabricator / welders on hand to fix my transgressions

let me know, wonder if its an interference fit?

  11. He didnt "break the rules" and to glibly criticise someone who has actually ridden the scott unlike you and me, could have won but made a simple error, is disingenuous

    in the extreme.

If you have your own compressor then swap tyres to suit your next event or practice session.

keep old tyre for practice and good tyre for championships etc. Takes 5 mins to swap once you get the hang of it and saves pounds  in the long run

Make sure you get a beader and its always easy to change, tyre soap, keep old ones for practice saves money!!
