Hello Honda experts,
Does anyone know if there is an online parts list anywhere? I've searched all the forums and can't find one for either the TLR 250F or the TLR 200
Many thanks.

Hi
I may be interested, depending on price.
-
I definitely remember those alloy swinging arms being mentioned in TMX at the time, and seem to recall that they were very expensive even back then - like 250 quid or so. I suspect the were Mitani. Why not give Nigel a call, he will remember, or Shirty as his dad was Yam importer at the time.
-
BD - I think you have to strip them down. I certainly couldn't think of any other way. Beware that they can be a royal pain to get the old ones out. On my 200 it still had the original ones in which had welded themselves to the forkleg. In the end I had to take them to Birketts and it took Kev 2 hrs to get them out, and iIthink that involved soaking them overnight in something (at least, that's what I was charged!). Good luck!

Sorry guys I should have been more clear - I know that fortunately I am still able to get insurannce for SSDT through the event itself, that's why its afterwards that I am concerned about?
Does anyone provide it?

Dear All,
Help! Has anyone been able to take out competition insurance recently? After Carol Nash discontinued their comp -inclusive cover last year, I had a frantic 2 hours ringing round every insurer I could find on the internet until eventually Bennets said they would cover competition usage along with TPF&T - I confirmed at leat 3 times on the phone converstation I had, that the policy covers road use in between sections whilst on the road.
Then, when I come to check the policy 1 month before riding SSDT I discover that competition usage is specifically excluded. So - I have been explicitly mis-sold the policy which is annoying (they are currently "going through the tapes"), but what I'm most concerned about is where I get insurance for all the other events after SSDT where the organisers don't provide insurance?
Can anyone give me a name/number of anyone who will provide this insurance please?
Thanks.
ps - why are the insureres put off by competitions - do they really receive a lot of claims from accidents that happen during road based trials? would have thought that theft was far greater portion of claims?
-
Thanks a lot guys - I will have to study all of this! I imagine with the expanse of the country generally it's normal to travel much greater distances for competitions? what would be an avereage? (2-3 hrs?). UK is so realtively small that for local events you rarely have to travel more than an hour - guess we're very lucky!
cheers

Hello USA, please can you help me? I'm likely to be moving to NYC/Stamford in the next few months for a 2 year placement with work - is there any chance of any trials riding (clubs, competitions etc) within a realistic travelling distance? I could potentially live on the outskirts of NYC or Stamford as I will be commuting to Stamford for work.
Please please help! Links to trials clubs and venues would really help so I can look at a map?
If not, is there any cyclo trials action in that area? (competitions?)
Many thanks!

Having had montesas for 10 years I'm afraid to say that I think they're all the same - the 315 had a similar problem. I once mentioned it to Martin Lampkin to ask the factory to fix it and he said "ay al' tell em" - not sure if he remembered though!
You have three possible solutions
1) use elf gearbox oil - costs a fortune but does work to a certain extent, but doesn't completely remove it (try BVM)
2) I'm told that Mitani clutch plates completely remove the problem ( approx

Hi - careful slack dabber, I went to renew my Carol Nash insurance and they told me it is explicitly NOT covered for use on road during competition and that they do not offer any policy which does. In the end Bennets were the only others I could find who offered a comp inclusive policy - decent price though.

Is this still on? Was thinking of going to watch tomorrow - there's a forward in TMX but it isn't in the Regs or the "What's On?" section. Also no preview on TC which I think they usually have don't they? Thanks.

Thanks for that, does any one have any ideas for fork paint? I'm thinking of trying to get the best match with a car spray paint from Halfords, but I don't have the original to match to as the fork legs have been painted over white...

Hello all
I'm in the process of restoring a TY pinky, so after a quick holiday up at Birks last week to sort out the engine it is ready for some cosmetic treatment. Does anyone know if you can get the original blue fork paint (maybe a Yamaha part ref? and dealer?). Also I haven't tried to put all the stickers etc on the new mudguard and existing seat (which is in good nik) but I wondered if it was worth considering a coat of lacquer eg the spray one they sell at Halfords - maybe this could help make it look more shiny and either stop the stickers coming off or stop them fading? I would appreciate anyone's thoughts please?
Cheers

Hi Bruce,
There were plenty around in the UK as a guy in the Manchester area made a hundred or so very professional ones. Now most people have 4RTs you should be able to find one. Mine is for sale on ebay at the moment (ref: 200113745904) but I'd rather not be bothered with posting to US I'm afraid. I'm sure someone else may have one for you if you keep trying on here?

Cheers Scott, look forward to hearing the special settings for the suspension.
I'm also wondering whether to go 270 and maybe take it up to Birks to work some magic on the porting etc.., maybe shave the flywheel too. Has anyone done this kind of mod? Good idea/bad idea? Also any idea how much it may cost?
Thanks

Thanks very much for that Pandelboy, sounds pretty straightforward...

Hi - My TY250 mono has the dreaded scratch on front fork slide situation, which isn't horrendous but it is damaging the seal.
It doesn't look like the previous owner has tried to do anything with it, but I remember several people telling me about a simple fix which works involving super glue and then maybe some sort of ultra fine sandpaper/file, or is it "wet and dry"?
I need to sort it before replcing the seals.
Thanks

Hi - Anyone got any ideas please? wouldn't mind popping down to Halfords this w/e to try to get something suitable if anyone can recommend colurs/type of paint?
Thanks
Hi
I'm looking to tidy up the paint on my tlr 250, without going the whole hog of a full tank paint job or frame respray. Does anyone know any references , say for a well known retail park motor accessories shop?
Thinking:
Frame (which is more orange/red than red)
Swinging arm and stand
Tank - red, white and blue
Also, has anyone had a go at painting the standard plastics without going to a paint shop? Again, sny ideas on paint type/ colour etc? I realise this may be the way to go but if it's easy I'll have a go myself. I seem to remember painting a radio controlled car polycarbonate body pretty well.
Many thanks.

Hello TYers.
I've just picked up a pretty neat pinky and I have a few of questions I was hoping somebody may be able to help me with?
1) What is the recommended way of sticking the seat flush to the plastic seat piece? I guess the obvious choice may be super glue but I'm a bit weary and don't want to damage the plastic, and also avoid messy excess glue?
2) Is it still easy to get pink mudguards and transfers?
3) I've been playing around with the rear shock settings a bit, trying to make as soft and lively as possible, like a more modern bike, hopefully making it easier to jump the back end around a bit. Have had a fair bit of success altering simply the compression and rebound to softer settings (I weigh 11st) but I wondered what difference the spring preload would make? would an increase of preload with soft settings make the rebound quicker and hence more lively? or is it the other way round?
Many thanks

Hello TY gurus,
I think I saw a thread on this a year or two ago - just wondering whether anyone knew if it is possible to convert a 250R to a 350 like the had over in the states? What would it involve- can you get the parts across the pond?, what they're like even (would I want to? ) When I had them back in the day I think the only common capacity increase was to 270. Any idea how much this would cost now? Also, I remember some of the keen lads converting to a rear disc, were they any good? are there any latter disc kits that may fit of other bikes?

Hello all,
I was shocked (but not particularly surprised) to notice that the rear wheel on my TLR 250 is corroding through from the inside between the spokes. So I wondered is there a way of patching them up or is it curtains for the nice gold originals? It's a shame because they look pretty god considering the age. I presume the only alternative if they can't be is to build up the hubs onto , say an excel rim? Possibly with the advantage of going tubeless?
Thanks

get him out on it! while your learning anything will do..and they were decent in 97 so they are now! and if it's nearly new, should be relliable! go for it!..you can soon upgrade next year...
