  1. I've looked at it and it seems intact. Is it still worth replacing if it looks ok??
  2. I have a strange gearbox problem. I bought the bike 2nd hand (07 280pro) shifts up ok but to get it to shift down I need to pull the lever up a little and then shift down. I have been through the eccentric shift adjustment without sucess the problem is, the little click they talk about doesn't exist for my bike shifting up or down. The bike stays in gear no problem. Any ideas????
  3. I would stay away from bikes that old. Likely to be a long line of repairs that will detract from your enjoyment.
  4. Like trying to cut steak with a plastic spoon, not the right tool for the job. There is no reasonable way to turn a trials bike into an enduro bike and you will just damage your bike trying.
  5. The Evo is a good bike no doubt. Now on par with the gas gas I would think, they aren't the tractors of old but have kept the build quality.
  6. Why have you assumed that its electrical???. Have you tried using the choke even when hot?? If it starts then maybe your pilot circuit is too lean. I have to use my choke often as the pilot circuit is lean on these bike to help throttle response.
  7. I took delivery of an 07 280TXT Pro yesterday. Problem is despite being difficult to start ,every 3rd kick or so it kicks back ala XR 500. I know that the selector gear was replaced recently. Has anyone had a similar experience, is this usual???
  8. I'm in the same boat Gasgas 250 or an Evo. Comments would be appreciated. The evo would have to be something to beat the Gassers front end stability though.
  9. Is this for real or more false reporting???. Did they launch these bikes today???. I have to decide by Monday GasGas or Beta and any info would be appreciated.
  10. Each of us take responsability for our actions and I'm not advocating burning down the barn. I have seldom been asked to leave after meeting the owner when riding on his land. If he is unhappy I explain the sport and the difficulty in finding land to ride on then ask him where I can ride on his land basically push push push, I show them the bike, where I ride and then show them the skills ect think sales man. However I have never been allowed to ride after asking, you never get past the can I ride on your land part. Don't be silly and ride where there are signs and razor wire and skull and crossbones or the head of previous riders on a stick. But an unlocked farm gate is an invitation esp if there are no signs. But if you go about your riding in pairs and don,t roost out the petunias you are good to go mostly. The real secret is don't kiss and tell it doesn't work on women or riding areas.
  11. Are you saying the launch is today or next weekend??
  12. Ride it at times when you aren't likely to be caught. If you get caught don't ride off like you were caught with your hand in the cookie jar, be friendly and curteous, tell the owner the gate was open and you have ridden there for years and didn't know you couldn't as there were no signs ect. Tell him you are very sorry as you didn't know but as you have ridden there for years without problem would he mind if you keep riding. I never ride off if challenged I pretend that riding there is my right and calmly argue with whom ever confronts me. You will be surprised at how often people will accomodate you. Last rule if you get lucky with an awesome riding spot never tell anyone because next week every pilchard and his quad riding off spring will be there and then you can kiss it goodbye. Calm debate can open trials doors more often than you think just don't forget the last rule because that is a bridge burner every time.
  13. Seems that the new Beta is new in all ways and marks the next generation of Beta trial bike. New name and all. And will be launched in Andora definitely. Hope its a good bike!!!.
  14. The 09's should be out any day or they will lose market share to their competition, I for one won't wait forever for them to get their ducks in a row. Gas Gas is excellent and to quote "if you can't be with the one you love, love the one you're with(can get)". So Beta put out or lose out.
  15. Dude if you read your last sentence you will realize you already have given up and the outcome is already decided RIP. If all you can do is ride in waste land and manmade i.e indoors its time to get over trials and do what the nazi authorities want. Which is to sit in your house recycle your garbage and tend your wind farm in the yard when you aren't working and paying 50% of what you earn over to them. All this despite allowing big industry to destoy the world, they have decided to regulate the little man until the only thing that still is legal is sipping organically grown coffee on the sidewalk watching the dead fish float by. Welcome to the new world. Luckily I live in the third world where you can pretty much ride where ever you like so long as you take a gun to shoot the would be muggers. We have also volintarily stopped riding through botanical gardens and the like when there are people there because we think its poor form. Good luck in the first world but I think that the pencil necks have won.
  16. I am looking for advice on suspension setup. I ride an 2005 Beta Rev 3, I was riding a few sections today through some streambeds with a friend. He owns a Gas Gas 280, we swopped bikes and I noticed that his front end is super planted and doesn't deflect like mine. I am not sure whether it is the bike difference or suspension, any advice would be appreciated. This isn't a bike bashing question just looking to make my bike less nervous through the stream beds???

    Restoring A Frame

Quick question. I recently polished out a few pit marks on my tank. The aluminium has lost its brushed appearance and is now shiny in this area despite different grades of water paper. Any ideas why this might be? How can I retore the appearance of the aluminium?
  18. Take it back and get your money returned. My experience is that a bike sold in that kind of condition has more than one thing wrong with it. As you fix one thing the next thing becomes apparent and so on. The deal may have seemed sweet at the time but once you are finished sorting the bike it will have cost lots and still be a piece of cr@p that you can't sell. Take that sucker back.
  19. I have just read the forum from beginning to end and a few things stand out for me. Most riders are not knowlegeable regarding the forces involved in causing injury and therfore put faith where they shouldn't. Most people put faith in equipment that cannot prevent injury but allows them to feel protected and therefore safe, a riders "blanket" for want of a better term. Bad news protective gear will only protect you from minor injury the kind that hurts like hell but doesn't involve being airlifted to hospital. If you fall and your bike falls on you a roost deflector won't stop broken ribs. This is because the impact doesn't break them, the crushing force does, think of squeezing a flexible compressible chest between two hard objects, once you reach a certain amount of pressure the ribs break (think of bending a green stick until it breaks). So a "chest protector" is really a roost deflector and works very well in that regard. If you want your roost guard to stop the pain of golfball sized rocks hitting your chest when doing mx great, if you want rib protection buy a suit of armour. People who wear roost gaurds and think that they are safe from rib fracture are in denial. Let me tell you, your bike falls on you nothing is going to protect your ribs. If you go over the bars and put out your arms to cushion your fall how do you protect your wrists??? you cant simple as that. Don't put out your arms and roll. Knee braces will help with impact protection and hyperextension(knee bending backwards) but if you rotate your knee i.e. keep your foot still and turn your body and keep going goodbye ligaments, nothing will stop that kind of injury sorry to say. I could keep going on and on but I have made my point. Protective gear has limits and when significant force is applied to a body the kind that breaks bones and dislocates joints i.e high speed/significant force very little can help you. Trails has more in common with mountain biking than MX IMO. Here, head injury, facial bone fracture, collar bone fracture, wrist and arm injury dominate. So protect these areas and don't put out your arms when you fall and roll if you can. I wear quality trials style boots, knee guards, elbow guards, excellent helmet (open face), goggles when riding through forest from section to section, gloves ect. As always the best safety equipment is your brain, don't do stupid things without planning them. The most important thing is if it is difficult going get a spotter to control the bike because it is the most dangerous thing around you, next get rid of sharp sticks around a section you are going to do that you can fall on. Walk the section and plan it and put a spotter where you are nervous. Realistically trials should cause less severe injuries than other forms of motorcycling because of the lack of speed but you need to control the bike to be safe.

    Jetting Rev 3 270

I have stripped the carb on my 2005 270rev 3 to do the float mods and was wondering whether the standard jetting i.e. 30 pilot, 150main and needle middle clip is ok for sea level 15 to 28 degree celcius. I really don't know how they are meant to perform as this is my first trials bike, any input would be appreciated.

    2008 Beta 250

Learn to ride on the ball of your foot. It will take a little while to get used to but will give you better balance and solve your problem.
  22. I found the definitive way of finding out, I e-mailed Beta my frame number and they responded within half an hour. I am the proud owner of a 270cc Rev3. Thanks for all the help anyway.
  23. Does anyone know how to tell a 250 from a 270. I bought a 2005 Rev3 and would like to know whether it is a 250 or 270. I can't find anything on the barrel or elsewhere on the bike. Maybe via the frame number? Any help would be appreciated.
