  1. NB...the new OKOs come with an angled throttle cable tube (the tube/cap on the Keihin on this photo). Which is great but this does not unscrew like the previous carbs and the Dellorto. This may lead to cable/wire length and cable adjustment issues. I'd guess you could partly correct this by using one of those universal replace throttle wire kits. But I'm not sure how you could introduce an inline cable adjuster.

If your converting from a Keihin or an older OKO just use the cap off of there.

Get one of the Amal alloy twist grips they used in the 80's they have a cable adjuster built in and look more durable than the Dominos we all use. I have one on an old Motesa Ive just bought and it looks fine. they are available from most Twinshock specialists

  2. The Cota from hell has unleashed a new fault, the Flywheel boss is ever so slightly loose! I can feel a bit of rotational play only between the steel boss and the outer.

Will it sort of rivet tight again using a punch and hammer???

Does anyone know the method of contruction of these??

Will a Motoplat flywheel of another bike fit? perhaps a 248 349 of similar age or even Bultaco or Ossa and would balancing be an issue?

The part number on mine is 063025 6V40/9/21W33.

    Thanks Ian

  3. Basically, you want the shafts centered in the cases with at least one shim at each end.

End play? As little as possible without clamping down on the shafts. 2 or 3 thou.

Oops got the end float right but shims on the left side only!! I have shimmed the selector drum to suit and all gears select ok!

  4. Hi,

I am puting my Cota 200 back together and I need to know how much end float the gear shafts should have?

And which end the shims should go?

I am disregarding any shims I took out as it had been rebuilt by Neanderthal Man!!

If anyone has an exploded diagram of the gearbox that would be good as I have made some educated guesses on how it goes!!!!

    Thanks Ian

  5. Found the spark and had it started...lots of top end rattle though!!!!!

I have checked the gaps between the rings and piston and its more than 0.15mm which seems a bit much, are pistons still available? I ve rung Sandifords and they dont have any?

  6. Hi Just bought a Cota 200, because I had two in the 80's ;)

    And a few questions..

How can I tell if its a Montesa Honda? The Frame number starts MH and the front brake hub looks different to what I remember.

It's got no spark at the moment, I think its because the wrong coil is fitted, a Fesma coil is fitted and all I get when holding the HT lead is a tickle of a shock.

And to refresh my memory of points and things, the only wire used is the black from the coil on the stator which goes to the points, condenser and then to the HT coil, all other wires are just taped up behind the stator.

The resistance of the coil on the stator is about 1.6 ohms, is this about right?

And finally the kickstart problem that these bikes have, mine seems fine but i have felt it slip a couple of times! So is the fault a total breakage or do they just fail to engage???

    Thanks Ian
